Testers Wanted: TaylorMade P-790 Irons

We’re seeking three dedicated golfers to test and provide feedback on the latest TaylorMade P-790 irons. This is an opportunity to evaluate the performance claims of these renowned clubs and share your insights with the MyGolfSpy Forum community.

About the TaylorMade P-790 irons

The P-790 irons have been a staple in the player’s distance category, known for blending distance, forgiveness and a sleek design. The latest iteration introduces several potential enhancements:

  • New 4340M Forged Face: This material is 20 percent stronger than previous versions, allowing for a thinner face that delivers increased ball speed. Additionally, it expands the sweet spot by 24 percent, aiming to provide more consistent performance across the face.
  • FLTD CG (Flighted Center of Gravity): By strategically placing up to 40 grams of tungsten, these irons are designed to offer higher-launching long irons and more controlled trajectories in the scoring clubs.
  • Refined aesthetics: The latest P-790 features a thinner topline and improved sole geometry for better turf interaction, enhancing the overall look and playability.

Will these changes and enhancements result in an overall package that is far and away better than the previous version?

Tester responsibilities

Selected testers will be expected to:

  • Conduct comprehensive testing: Evaluate the P-790 irons on various aspects including distance, forgiveness, feel and overall performance.
  • Engage with the community: Share your testing experiences, insights and any fitting adjustments in the MyGolfSpy Forum, fostering discussions and aiding fellow golfers in understanding the nuances of these irons.

P790 Testing – A Second Chance at Single Digits

      Hey MyGolfSpy Community,

I’d love the opportunity to test the new TaylorMade P790 irons as I work my way back to a single-digit handicap. After 20 years away from the game, I’ve recently returned with a renewed passion and currently play off a 13, down from a 4 in my prime. While my short game and driving are coming back quickly, my iron play is where I see the biggest room for improvement.

I’m looking for a set of irons that offers the perfect balance of forgiveness and workability—something that will help me sharpen my ball striking while still giving me the confidence to attack pins. The P790s seem like an ideal fit, and I’d love the chance to provide detailed, honest feedback on their performance from a mid-handicapper’s perspective.

I play and practice regularly, track my stats, and would be excited to put these irons through their paces both on the course and on the range. Thanks for the opportunity, and I look forward to contributing to the community!

Now this test is my Holy Grail!! I’ve been gaming the 2021 version of the P790’s and have been really pleased with their performance. The 2023 just didn’t appeal to me, visually. Plus, I didn’t have any logical reason to upgrade so soon. Would love to put these head to head against my 2021 P790’s and back-up set of Mizuno i525’s.
I’m headed over to the forum to apply. Put me in, coach!!
