The Putter Quiz Has Officially Ended!

Wow!  what a contest.  I honestly am still surprised by the number of comments and entries we get to our quizzes.  It started off slow but I thought it would since this one took some major research if you wanted to win…but it ended with a major rush of entries.  Overall between the blog, Facebook, Twitter and email we got over 250 entries.  And here are our winners:

1. 15 out of 15 ($250 Cash Prize) – No surprise that no one guessed all 15 on their first attempt but still some very good first attempts nonetheless.
2. Most Correct (Slotline Putter) – Jon Phelps got 15 out of 15 on his 6th and final try and won the Slotline putter with the most correct answers.
3. Most Referrals ($50 Cash Prize) – FunkyFedora referred the most people to the contest and won a $50 cash prize!
4. First to guess the Scotty Cameron (RoboCup) – Todd Bailey, even though it had a ? mark by it lol.
5. First to guess the real Ping Anser (Mibrella) – GolferBurnz…it was tough between the last three but he got it right.

The Correct Answers

Some of you guys put some major time and effort in to this quiz so I am sure you would like to now see the correct answers.  This time I will post the photos but WITHOUT the BLUR over the name and model.  We got some hilarious emails about how differently some of you guys are going to look at copy-cat Anser style designs from now on.  And that was one point of the quiz…to make you guys aware of the type of insanity that sometimes goes on over one of these designs.  A perfect example is the new Nike Method Anser style putter.  I don’t remember a time where there was more hype over a putter that looked almost identical to a putter that has been done so many times before.

So did you guys like this quiz?  If so I think there a few other models that are out there that we could do something similar with.  You guys up for another one?

I’m proud to get 12… even though I had plenty of help from the other answers previously posted.

You know what? When will we hear that all of these designs are Karsten Solheim. I know most of us who live for the sport of golf know this. I wish manufacturers would come out and say where they got all their ideas,Scotty?Bob?,At least thank him.

I was thinking of this last night Bill. When was the first ‘homage’ to the Anser made? When was the first knock-off made? I have no doubt Scotty and Bobby etc are fine craftsman but how would the putter market look if only Ping had made Anser putters. It’s amazing how other people make money from one person ground breaking design was there any legal action taken? We need the history of the Anser MGS – from one mans record sleeve to another mans million dollar milling machine…

That is a great question Chris…we should do some investigating to see. We will put that in for an article idea coming up. That one will take come investigative work on my part.

I came close got the Bobby Grace and Ping mixed up but was the first one to get 13 right but not the one to get all 15 haha I think the Nike utilized stumped a lot of people.

I think you’re 13 right helped a lot of people Matt you lead the way LOL. We just had to work out which two you had wrong I was pretty sure no.9 was a Rossa but thought no.4 was the Gauge – consider yourself a pioneer.

Of course you’re right about the hosel from the picture it’s almost an optical illusion you always think that the bit were the shaft and hosel connect are thicker than other putters almost like a Wilson Fatshaft. Don’t get any ideas about a dimple competition LOL! Regarding the Nike was it a prototype I thought they had a aim dot on the top edge?

Damn I only got 12 on my last guess I flip-flopped on the Nike and the Bobby Grace so theoretically I could have had 14 LOL! I didn’t have a clue with no.10. My hearty congrats to the winner well deserved. The only way I could tell the difference was (with research) was the cavity at the back it’s quite distinct on certain designs. I still believe no.4 is a Gauge LOL! I don’t wan’t to see an anser style putter until 2010 (even in my dreams) and look forward to your guess the 15 golf ball dimple patern MGS. Merry Christmas and take care everyone.

#4 does look a little similar to a Gauge but the hidden clue in that one is the hosel…it is the unitized model which it and the shaft is all one piece. LOL…I think the golf ball dimple one might even be harder then this one Chris.
