Surprised JJ Spaun Won with Those Irons? We weren’t.

J.J. Spaun won the U.S. Open. Big moment, career-changing stuff. But let’s be honest, the real story this week might be the irons in his bag. The Srixon ZXi7 just added a U.S. Open title to their resume, after already being named the Best Players Irons of 2025 in our MyGolfSpy testing. If you’ve been ignoring Srixon in the players’ iron conversation, now’s the time to rethink things.

JJ Spaun Wins U.S. Open with Best Player’s Iron of 2026

The Srixon ZXi7 was just named Best Overall Player’s Iron of 2025. It scored 9.4 out of 10, led in accuracy (9.5) and forgiveness (9.5), and ranked 7th for distance. The PureFrame design provides a crisp feel with a 9.3% vibration reduction. These irons blend tour-level performance with everyday usability.

Spaun has just proven that they work for both amateurs and professionals, and that says a lot.

Z-Star Diamond Gets a Signature Win

Lost in the sauce of JJ’s iconic win at the U.S. Open is the golf ball he’s playing: the Srixon Z-Star Diamond. Right now, you can save big on the winning ball. From now until June 22, you can buy 2 dozen, get 1 free!

“Surprised JJ Spaun Won with Those Irons? We weren’t.” Neither is anyone else on a website that is all about golf equipment. Some random sports fan that doesn’t obsess over golf equipment like we all do might be, but no one who frequents a website like MyGolfSpy is surprised a major winner used Srixon irons. Hell, Brooks Koepka won the 2023 PGA with a prior model of these irons.

More surprised that he has Ventus in his driver but Mitsubishi in his fairways
      Can we analyse that please

I get it. This is an equipment-centric site. As much as you want to give credit to his irons, putter, etc. It was the player using the equipment that made the difference.

There were notable players that more or less use the same equipment that didn’t even make the cut. So in that case, does the equipment get the blame?

You misses the boat on this one, with Spaun’s LAB DF3 and Adam Scott’s Mezz Max Broomstick on center stage. They were the big winner as far as equipment exposure goes.

A little strange that you barely mention the real star club in his bag, the putter. The one that just happens to be made by a small bespoke manufacturer, that doesn’t pay him to play it, unlike Srixon. Also the club that you won’t put into your mallet putter testing, as it might just completely show up the big company putters, those big companies that are copying LAB to such an extent that they really should be ashamed (and sued).

We all know LAB putter perform so why make another article for what we already know? It has been communicated multiple times that there will be a zero torque putter study published where I anticipate we will see a couple of labe mobels inlcuding the DF3.

Srixon is highlighted in the article becuasae they dont get the attenttion they deserve as an equipment manufacturer so this win helps validate that brand in the eyes of people who would otherwise overlook them.

Why would LAB sue? They didn’t invent 0-torque putters.

Bummer for Cleveland wedges: our wedges knock down flags (and bounce off greens), lol.

      Not surprised.
Both major Japanese manufacturers make great clubs. When I got fitted for my irons last spring, Mizuno came out on top with Srixon 3rd, according to the data.
And I absolutely love my Mizunos.

Ryan Fox has 2 recent wins and an Open top 20 with an almost exclusively Srixon bag. They must be doing something right

Correct, and the Qi10 fairway woods were released in 2024 so hence why last years fairway woods study is linked.
