TaylorMade MG2 TW Wedge

TaylorMade MG2 TW Wedge

We’ve covered TaylorMade’s MG2 series before. You can read the specifics here and not much has changed with this release. With the TaylorMade MG2 TW Wedge, you still get the milled sole for more precise tolerances. You still get a laser-etched surface texture for more spin on short shots (actual mileage may vary) and you get optimized mass distribution for control. And, of course, you get Raw Face Technology. What’s new here are the letters TW and the new grinds that come with them.

All of the above gives you the chance to play the same wedges (more or less) that Tiger plays – and I actually like that. TaylorMade says Tiger’s sole designs feature complex and unique sole geometry and while that might be true, what we’re talking about are two new mid-high bounce MG2 options designed for versatility.

TaylorMade MG2 TW Sand Wedge

The 56-degree sand wedge has 12 degrees of bounce. As you expect from all things Tiger, it’s designed with versatility and creativity in mind. The aggressive heel relief allows the face to be opened, closed or, if you’re feeling crazy, played dead nuts square. The Tiger perspective is that the versatility allows him to manipulate the shot based on what the lie gives him.

TaylorMade MG2 TW Lob Wedge

The MG2 TW lob wedge option has 60 degrees of loft and 11 degrees of bounce. Additional leading-edge relief makes for what legitimately can be described as a dual-bounce sole. It retails the versatility of the 56-degree option while pronounced leading-edge relief allows the club to sit closer to the ground. In turn, that allows Tiger to be more aggressive on open-face shots.

The TaylorMade MG2 TW 60 manifests itself as a mid- to high-bounce wedge with plenty of versatility baked in. That’s an ideal combination for steep attack angle players who like to manipulate the face around the green and out of bunkers.

Normally, I might be inclined to roll my eyes. Trading on Tiger’s name with mass-market products doesn’t always pass the sniff test. That said, mid-cycle line extensions are common and when it comes to wedge grinds, I’m a big fan of both variety and versatility. Given that I’ve been critical of TaylorMade’s lack of grind options in the past, it’d be hypocritical to take issue with a new option.

TW or not, the MG2 TW isn’t a one-Tiger-size fits all option but it’s a solid addition to the MG2 lineup, and that’s plenty good enough.

You mean you wouldn’t pay $170 each even though they’re stamped TW? LOL these OEM club prices are getting truly absurd, $170 for a wedge. What exactly will this wedge do for 70% of the players compared to what’s already out there? OEMs have known to blame for themselves when people purchase pre-owned and/or eBay.

I totally do not need these wedges. Do serious golfers really think, ‘These are the same specs Tiger uses (more or less). Damn my game and what suits me, Tiger uses these’. I’m not a TaylorMade irons fan and not a Tiger fan and not a fan of stamping TW on a wedge and playing up the idea of using a club fit for someone else’s game. I’m in a mood today.

I emulate my game 100% to Tiger’s, so yes, I DO NEED THESE WEDGES. If these work for Tiger, they will work for me as well. Don’t hate playa…

well the wedges they offer dont have enough bounce for people who needs more bounce…. the the heel relief is something they had on the nike wedges and I actually liked the grind the nike wedges had to offer… idc of name is stamps on them… if I’m able to get more bounce in a 60 and 56 with better grind options then they have to offer. I’m going to get them…
