Testers Wanted – Maxfli Tour/TourX Golf Balls

The Maxfli Tour/Tour X are arguably the most underrated premium golf balls on the market.

As our resident ball expert Tony Covey asserts: “The bottom line is that Maxfli Tour absolutely belongs in the conversation with the leading direct-to-consumer balls on the market and there’s a strong argument to be made that it’s one of the most consistent balls that doesn’t have a Titleist logo on it. For golfers looking to save a few bucks, the Maxfli Tour is an exceptional offering.”

With all of that said, we’d like to get feedback from MyGolfSpy readers.

      Enjoy your reviews and article!
Why don’t other ball manufactures “spin balance” there golf balls? It seem like a no brainer! I use a ball spinner and have notice a low percentage line up with the manufactures “direction line/logo! I have notice the new Titleist Pro V1/X are on or closer to the their “direction line”! This could be because their quality control is much more precise! Titleist has been know for great dispersion on most clubs!

There isn’t a single golf ball manufacturer that can, and does, spin balance for golf balls.

Since a couple of years ago, I’ve played Maxfli. Recently switched to the tour models. They are my favorite balls. Tour X plays well and does whatever you want. I love these tour balls.

I would be interested in trying the Maxfli, currently play On Core Elixir. Trying to decide if the cost difference would be worth the switch.

I have been playing Maxfli for a couple years. Switched to the tour models 2 years ago. Would put these up against any ball out there. I play the tour x and find it does whatever you want & hold up very well. These tour balls are great. Either the tour or x you cannot go wrong. From beginner to elite players, these balls can fit your play. Additionally, for the price point, they cannot be beat. The most underrated ball for sure!
This year I’ve been playing the X more as prefer the harder compression (for the feel). GREAT choice by you guys to have people test!

LOL……”Tour Balls”. I wonder what inspired Maxfli to give these balls the Tour & Tour X names, they don’t have a single player using their ball on the PGA tour, and of course like every other want to be Titleist company out there, they use the Tour for the original version, and the X to identify the higher compression, Titleist has only been doing that for 20 years, but all these “ball companies” out there who claim to be better, yet they can’t come up with an original model identifier than the leader, Titleist.

I was first made aware of the “new” Maxfli golf balls by mygolfspy.com a few years ago. Dick’s Sporting Goods was having a promotional sale at which I was able to purchase 3 dozen of each at a remarkable price.

After playing each ball a number of times, I decided that I could play both balls as I play 6 months in the California desert and 6 months in the Sierra mountains.

It’s nice to be able to play a softer ball in the winter and then switch to a little harder ball in the warmer weather. In reading one of the comments, I was interested to learn that the Maxfli balls did not test out as well during the most recent testing as they did during the 2019 test. I still have a few left of the older balls and it would be very interesting to see if I can tell any difference.

I have played both balls with a 95 mph driver speed. I prefer the Tour model which is the best ball for me in my personal testing if many balls. The doubles lines really work in terms of hitting straight drives, iron shots and putts. I have become a believer. The Tour X model was just too firm for my feel! Good luck to us all as we all …are different!

I hit the previous version (Maxfli Tour 2019) at a Golf Galaxy, in the Detroit Michigan area, a few years ago, trying out some drivers.. I was more impressed with the balls, compared to the clubs I haven’t found a ball I have to play, but am always looking for quality.. I would love to try the new Maxfli balls, I play 60+ rounds a year, 6 handicap, 90 mph driver swing speed, and 62 years old.

I am 64, almost 65 with a 98mph driver speed average Mark and I am surprised how little the data and statistics apply to us. They always seem to measure the young kids with 120 plus and real old people with 75mph driver speeds. If they were smart manufacturers would spend more time attracting older, lower single digit handicappers with club and shaft offerings. They don’t. We don”t want bulky shovel irons but need a little more forgiveness and distance and we need drivers that cater to our swing speeds and age but it’s either R or S. Irony is we are a fairly good part of the golf population, guys who played very well when younger but have aged out of 300 yard drives and plus handicaps.

I found one of these on the course a few weeks ago and decided to put it into play with some intrigue from past MGS positivity on the ball.

I’ve been going back and forth between Prov1X and Tour BXS over the past year. I played this ball for 4 rounds until I airmailed it into a neighborhood at the end of my 4th round (got a little too comfortable with it). I was going to wait until I cleared out my box of TourBXS’s but as soon as the last report came out, without hesitation I went and bought 2 boxes (because they’re on sale 2/$60) and shelved 2 sleeves of the Bridgestones.

The ball is very durable, spins just low enough for good driving distance and spins plenty off of irons and wedges.. it performs every bit as good, in all categories, as any premium ball you can name. Even the putt alignment lines by the CG marking work really well on the green.

This will be an enjoyable test for anyone who takes part

For a medium (90mph) swing speed the Maxfli is the best bag for the money both in distance and performance. I have played all these 3 piece balls; Costco, Srixon Qtour,Inesis tour 900, Snell X& black, and Pro V1. Until a better 3 pc is available I am on the Maxfli team.

I don’t know if this topic has been covered in other blogs by MYGOLFSPY, but at what level of play do you use a high quality ball? At a (12) hcp., I play with the Kirkland v2 ball during normal rounds of golf. In tournament play, I use the Maxfli Tour ball. With distance being maxed out on all balls, it boils down to feel and spin around the greens.

Still using the 2019 version(I bought a lot on sale). I have a question. Why do companies insist on making changes to very successful ball designs? If you look at the ball tests two that stand out are the Maxfli and the Taylormade. Both have new versions for 2021 and neither do as well in the 2021 ball test as in the original(2019) test. How dumb is that?

Considering the results of the lab work. This ball fits my game. I have never played them. Always thought they were in line with a Kirkland until I read the lab results.

I have recently tried both the Tour and Tour X. Normally play Srixon Z Stars.
The spin and distance are comparable to both the Srixon balls but the Z Stars feel softer, especially comparing the Xs.
The one thing I did not like with the Maxfli was the Yellow. I have about 10 rounds in with the Tour Yellow and every ball seems to be losing the yellow paint when using irons ( the irons are Mizuno 900 HM so the grooves are not sharp). I have never had this issue with Srixon (yellow color is molded in vs painted).
Not sure if the missing paint has an impact on flight but it is visually bad.
