Lululemon Commission Golf Shorts Review

There is a lot of cool gear in the golf equipment world that doesn’t always fit neatly into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides. You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised.

What We Tried:

Lululemon Commission Golf Shorts. Lululemon makes some of the most comfortable athleisure clothing. Just recently, the brand launched a golf-specific line of clothing so I had to give it a go.

Who Tried It:

Connor. Director of Soft Goods Testing and resident sneakerhead. I believe golf is better with a pair of cool shoes and comfortable joggers (or in this case, shorts).

The Perfect Golf Shorts?

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect golf shorts. So far, I’ve found nothing that matches the comfort and versatility of a pair I got from Oakley years ago. I’ve since forgotten the exact model and can’t seem to find another pair. That’s why I was really excited to give Lululemon’s golf shorts a try.

First impressions are everything to me and the Lululemon Commission Golf Shorts had my attention from the jump. From the first touch, the fabric was breathable and stretchy, something I believe every golf short should be.

Has Lululemon created the perfect golf shorts? Let’s find out.

Comfort and Fit

Lululemon Golf Shorts In action

Above all else, golf shorts should be comfortable. A fit that is neither too loose nor too tight is paramount to a comfortable round of golf. The Lululemon Commission Golf Shorts excel here. As opposed to Lululemon’s other casual short offerings, the waistband features a decent amount of stretch as do the legs.

When I say the Lululemon golf shorts are among the stretchiest golf shorts I’ve ever worn, I mean it. Whether you’re a little thicker like me or trend towards the Will Zalatoris body type, the Lululemon Commission Golf Shorts provide a near-perfect fit.

No restrictions, no uncomfortable seams or stitching. The Lululemon Commission Golf Shorts are flat-out comfy.

For those of you wondering, the Lululemon Commission Golf Shorts feature a 10-inch inseam. I found the overall fit to be true to size so I’d suggest going with your typical waist size. If you’re between sizes, the waist offers enough stretch to go down a size.

Small Details, Big Impact

Lululemon Golf Shorts tee pockets

My general worry when reviewing products like the Lululemon Commission Golf Shorts is that the brand hasn’t put any serious thought into making the product suitable for the golf course.

Upon finding both the super-handy tee pocket and zippered golf ball pocket, these worries were quashed.

Tucked inside the right front pocket is a small sleeve-style pocket for holding a golf tee. The zippered golf ball pocket midway down the left thigh was also a welcome addition. Whether you use it for that extra breakfast ball or just like to keep a spare on hand, it was extremely useful. The placement was perfect, too. The pocket is low enough and out of the way that a bulging golf ball won’t impede your swing or putting stroke.

Oh, and for those of you who do tuck in your shirt (or play at a course that requires you to do so), the silicone strip inside the waistband ensures it stays that way. Another little detail that makes a difference.

One Small Annoyance

Nothing is ever perfect. While the Lululemon Commission Golf Shorts are pretty darned close, I did experience one minor annoyance. The pair I’ve been wearing is fairly light in color and I found it to retain dirt a little more than I’d like.

Most marks and stains have easily come out in the wash but some of the darker marks have been more stubborn. Just something to consider if you’re opting for one of the lighter-colored options.

My Go-To Golf Shorts

Lululemon Golf Shorts with golf ball pocket.

Lululemon, you’ve done it! My new favorite golf shorts have arrived and there’s only one thing left to do: Retire my old Oakley shorts and pick up a bunch more of the Lululemon Commission Golf Shorts.

If you’re in the market for new golf shorts, you’d be wise to buy the Lululemon Commission Golf Shorts in a few colors before they sell out.

You usually get what you pay for, so those $20 golf short guys, read up….LL will replace – replace with a new pair – your navy or black shorts if they fade. Yes I spent $80 on them & I have gotten them replaced twice for free…..So I have 5 years into these shorts and I am walking around in brand new ones….LL stands behind their products….

A lot of hate here regarding this review. I hate to break it to everyone but Golf is expensive. Golf gear is expensive, and after inflation and Covid economics (especially as it relates to golf) everything is expensive.

Reviews are helpful if you eyeing a pair of $100 mail order golf pants. If your wanting a get whatever Costco or Marshall’s has, your stuck with whatever they have in stock.

I think we have all been accustomed to buying more than we need, honestly who needs 20 pairs of discount golf shorts, it’s called a washing machine.

I have 5 pairs of the regular (non golf) commission short, and several pairs of the pants. They are awesome and I wear them every single day the weather dictates. Great for casual wear, hiking, etc.

As it relates to the review, in my opinion you missed the most important feature: the gusseted crotch. No more smashing the goods, especially when sitting in the cart or squatting down to read putts. Also note that lululemon will tailor the length for free. Just one more reason to buy a quality item that fits well rather than a wardrobe of items on sale. And if you find something on the cheap that fits well, even better.

And my wife did not slap me for buying them, she was happy I got a pair of shorts that actually fit right…

Dude, you’re wearing “Bermuda” length knee-length shorts as a grown man. Look at the players on LIV – they are MILLIONAIRES – and yet most of them look like morons with those shorts, and they have theirs “tailored” and still look like ill-fitted idiots. They have all their clothes tailored, and yet most of them still look like clowns with the poor-fitting shorts, from Poulter to Koepka to Oosthuisen. And it seems it doesn’t matter what brand it is, since Poults has his own and Koepka wears Nike. And they’re all different – from baggy to tighter, with Poults on the right side and WAY above his knees.
the only thing you should get tailored are trousers. It really doesn’t matter what kind of shorts you buy, NONE of them look good on grown men, you all look like 6 year olds with ugly hairy fat legs with cankles lmao

Why not take a look in the mirror? You wear shorts that don’t fit, right? Is it way above the knees like Poulter or do they sag below the knees and flap about like a skateboarder you might want to put some kneepads on lmao

Oh yeah don’t forget your knee-high socks, nobody really wants to see your cankles, fat calves nor your ugly knee caps lmao and while you’re at it, you might as pay respects to Payne and wear knickerbockers

Mike, people in shorts have the same sweat problems, man, and it’s worse, because their swear also drip down their bare legs too under the shorts!!!! and it’s ugly as all hell lmao
And there are plenty of real sweat-wicking tech long pants out there in the world that ⅓ less than these stupid shorts. I wear them myself in high humidity and they do a great job of sweat wicking, and not only that, they have UV protection so there is no need to spray or spread sun screen all over the bottom half of the legs that would be exposed if you’re wearing shorts lmao

You must be a very lonely person for a pair of shorts to inspire so much anger, and make comments with such clear intent of degrading a person you’ve never met. I genuinely mean it when I say I hope you seek help.

I have 3 pairs of the Commission Classic-Fit Short 7″ WovenAir. Got them on sale for like 30% off. They are great shorts.

Absolutely! And can generally find them on sale. One underrated aspect of Lululemon is its performance guarantee. If it has issues during normal use, they’ll replace it for free. Even after years of use, I’ve had them replace some joggers and shirts!

“Grow the game”? Shirt, shorts, shoes. = $400. Clubs and bag. =$2000. Green fee $100+. Let’s not even mention the $4 ball that will get lost a couple times a round. We have a problem. Maybe Golf Spy should be reviewing economy club sets. Shoes for less than $50. Courses that a normal family can afford to play. You know. Dad, mom, kids.

Since everyone in the comments is obsessed with the price of the shorts, they really are great shorts that you can pickup used on Ebay for a great price or you can check out similar dupes from places like Target.

Here are the names of the target versions of the Lululemon Commission shorts and pants:
      “Men’s Golf Shorts 8″ – All in Motion” — $30
“Men’s Golf Pants – All in Motion” –$40

I get that part of your role is to review a variety of gear. But, respectfully, do you ever look at anything that an average guy can easily afford & will actually buy? Go to Marshalls, T.j, Maxx, etc. & you can find all name brands of golf clothes at huge markdowns. Obviously there are folks w/ money to burn, but what’s this, like 0.0001% of the golfing population? It’s getting to the point that these clothing articles aren’t even worth reading as the stuff is SO expensive. I own at least 15 pairs of golf shorts; all are quality name brands & I doubt I paid over $20 for any of them.

If you are married and buy a pair of Lululemon golf shorts for $98 your wife should slap you. If you are unmarried, one of your buddies in your foursome should do the same.

I think there may be a rationale for paying $98 for shorts. Made in the USA. Incredible build quality. Some sort of above average customer service. But $98 for shorts that you only wear for a specific activity is a little absurd. But hey if someone has that kind of F Off money to blow on shorts, go for it. I just don’t like how in just a few years we’ve gone from “grow the game” to significant increases in golf merch.

What is it with reviewing crazy expensive clothes? A couple of days ago it was $120 golf shirts. Today it’s $98 shorts.

What about reviewing stuff found at Costco, Kohls, Golf Galaxy, etc. where I’m guessing 80% of golfers shop?

      What’s next? $40 socks.
