I play Titleist T250 irons and I’m pretty happy with them so I wasn’t exactly looking for a reason to make a change. But then the Wilson DYNAPWR Forged won our 2026 player’s distance iron test.
The Wilson finished first for accuracy and forgiveness. I wanted to hit them and see if I could understand what our testing was picking up. If I’m being honest, Wilson probably wouldn’t have been the first iron I would choose to compare against my T250s.
After hitting them, I can see why they won.
The forgiveness difference was the first thing I noticed
The biggest difference for me was in the longer irons.
When I bought my T250 set, I didn’t even put the T250 5-iron in the bag. I struggled enough with it that I went with a more forgiving T350 5-iron instead. Because of that, I focused mostly on comparing the Wilson 6-iron directly against my T250 6-iron.
The Wilson was easier for me to hit.
It wasn’t that every strike suddenly felt perfect or that I couldn’t miss it. It just seemed as if I had a little more room to be imperfect and still get a good result. That lines up pretty well with what we saw in the test. The Wilson had a smaller overall shot area than the T250 and its carry distance variation was also tighter.
They are not trying to be the same type of player’s distance iron
The Wilson is definitely a little bulkier than my T250. Looking down at it, I see more game-improvement influence whereas the T250 has a cleaner look that feels closer to a traditional player’s iron.
If you’re coming from a player’s iron and want a little more speed and forgiveness without changing the look too dramatically, I think the T250 is a really natural fit. If you’re coming from a game-improvement iron, your game is getting better and you want to move into the player’s distance category, I could see the Wilson being a great transition.
If you’re transitioning into player’s distance irons and you go for the Wilson you’re getting a more compact iron but you aren’t suddenly giving up all of the forgiveness you’ve been relying on.
The feel was better than I expected
The other surprise was the feel. The Wilson is softer than I expected it to be but still has plenty of speed.
That combination is probably part of what impressed me most. It felt better than the top-down look suggested it would; enough that I could get used to it pretty easily, especially when I looked up and saw where the ball was headed.
The T250 was slightly longer in our testing, averaging 155.95 yards of carry compared to 154.36 for the Wilson, and that was similar to what I noticed. In the shorter irons, the Wilson was a touch longer for me. I still prefer the T250 short irons if I’m trying to work the ball or hit a very specific shot.
That’s where I still think the Titleist fits me better. I wouldn’t choose one or the other of these because of distance.
I understand why Wilson won
I’m not taking my T250s out of the bag after this.
I do prefer the cleaner look of the Titleist and, especially in the shorter irons, I like the little bit of extra workability I feel like I get from them. The performance difference throughout the set wasn’t enough for me to switch irons.
But I also came away from this with a much better understanding of why the Wilson DYNAPWR Forged performed so well in our test.
The room for ball striking error in the Wilson longer irons is noticeable. The feel was softer than I expected and there wasn’t a distance penalty. Pair it with the right shaft and you could probably dial in the irons to get even better distance performance.
Maybe the biggest thing I learned is simply that I would give Wilson more consideration than I would have before this test.
