2015 Most Wanted Premium Golf Gloves

Our 2015 Most Wanted Premium Golf Glove Buyer’s Guide consists of gloves with a retail price of $19 and above. When we looked at the totality of the gloves submitted for testing, we found that $19 is the point where tour-quality gloves begin to distinguish themselves from the field.

The gloves in this list are ideal for the golfer looking for the perfect fit coupled with amazing feel. Given that emphasis on feel…what you might call the connection with the club, our expectation is that the gloves on this list will be less durable and often less breathable than the majority of their more inexpensive counterparts.

To sum it up in a single word, our premium gloves are for golfers who want one thing from their glove: performance.

How We Tested

tmag-preferred

To determine Golf’s Most Wanted! Glove, we scored the following categories: Fit, Feel, Comfort, Grip, Breathability, and, Perceived Durability.

Test Parameters

Gloves were put through a normal usage scenario at the driving range in controlled set of test conditions.

Golfers completed individual testing in a single session to help ensure consistent temperature and humidity.

If testers hands became too sweaty, they were allowed to cool down/dry off before proceeding to test another glove.

Each tester only used one club/grip for the entire test. Grips included corded, rubber, and grips with more than a full season of play.

Fit:

Does the glove fit true to size, slightly big, or slightly small. Any inconsistencies in sizing –  with a single finger and/or the palm were noted and scored.

Feel:

Graded for how connected glove allowed a player to feel to their club/grip. Generally, thinner gloves scored better.

Comfort:
Anything worth noting where comfort is concerned, e.g. overly thick or abrasive seams, extremely tight fit in one finger.

Grip:

Does the glove allow for proper pressure, or does the player feel the need to grip tighter for any reason? Is there a comparative loss of grip?

Breathability:
When the time comes, does the player feel a glove promotes airflow, keeping things cooler and drier for longer?

Perceived Durability:

Is there anything at all that leads the player to believe a given glove might last longer, or conversely, fall apart/wear out sooner than the rest of the gloves.

Results: Most Wanted Glove

A Final Word of Advice

Don’t buy a new glove without considering the following:

You’re probably wearing a glove that’s too big.

Before you start shopping golf gloves, double check your sizing. A new glove should fit “like a glove….”. It make sense, but most golfers don’t know what that means.

The two biggest signs your glove doesn’t fit right:

  • Check the Velcro closure. If you need to pull the Velcro fastener past the edge to secure the glove when it’s new, you need to go a size smaller.
  • Bagginess in the palm when your hand is open. If the palm is loose, go a size smaller.

Fit is everything, and even more so with a premium glove.

      All,
Never thought I would say this but I believe something is awry in this test. I have used many gloves in the many years that I have been playing this crazy game. The ONLY glove that I have been able to use for extended time periods is the Hirzl. It is truly a superior glove. If the entire glove were made of ostrich, It would be the best glove on the planet!

We welcome any and all suggestions on where you can see that this review could be improved in the future.

Do you have any definable points where you feel the Hirzl becomes the only glove other golfers could wear for extended periods of time? (we’ve seen lots of golfers over the years wear lots of gloves for extended periods of time without issue)?

Well done on putting together this testing article on the top premium gloves. I have been using the TaylorMade Tour Preferred glove now for about 8 months now. Played in all weather, some 20 times on the Costa del Sol in Spain, so they have taken a bit of a bashing but still really soft and comfortable. No major damage as well so material has held up well. I like the big elastic fastener for comfort and getting the right amount of support.

I love the Wilson FG Tour. It is a great glove! I do like the Master grip Elite like others, but that’s just us!

I love the Hirlz control for wet/sweaty grip, the hybrid model’s grip is almost as good with a bit more feedback/sensitivity. Lack of color choices though, have the GFores for that and those work well until thoroughly saturated.

I too am surprised by the failure to test Titleist’s Player series. I suspect that it is probably among the most most popular premium gloves in the United States. One would be hard pressed to find many of the tested gloves in any big box golf store let alone any green grass operation. I had an opportunity to try TM’s Tour Preferred when I neglected to refill my stock of Players. It is a well built and good fitting glove. However, it also felt thicker. I prefer extremely thin feeling gloves which is why I prefer the Players. Footjoy’s Pure Touch is truly special but not worth the additional $11.00.

Chris C. – thanks for the follow up. It sounds like you would be the perfect candidate to help by reaching out to your favorite Titleist contact and encouraging them to work with MyGolfSpy on future articles. As of now, Titleist has turned down any opportunity to participate in this piece.

This is good to see that my current gamer. Tailormade’s glove comes out the best. I have been using mine for the last 6 months (aproximatly 40+ round and afew range sessions) and it still fits well and doesn’t show much sign of wear.

I am a big fan of complete leather gloves and not ones with additional material parts and unnecessary stitching (e.g. Nike Dri-Fit Tech II JF). I have not been contemplating changing my glove and this justifies my thoughts. I do not understand why people don’t like spending a bit of money on a premium glove. Its the second most used thing after the golf ball per round. There is nothing better than a perfect fitting glove which feels like a second skin. Keep up the great work MGS.

      Thanks for doing this!

I’m surprised the Titleist Players Glove wasn’t rated. It has to be one of the top 3 most popular premium golf gloves – would have loved to see how it compared to this ranking.

It’s a bit more involved than one glove. We have a team of testers who have to be outfit with gloves in a range of sizes.

Waste of time without the Titleist glove, u can buy them at cost and sell them to the testers or buy them yourselves with ad sponsor money….im sure u can make it happen.
These results are mostly worthless, sorry
      Thanks for trying

Tried that FJ pure touch, amazing! Sizing was great and i didn’t chew through it- more grip technique, glove lasted surprisingly, maybe I took better care of it.
30 bucks for a one time experiment was with it.

Now on to the tour preferred…

Man… such strong support for MG – as per this article, – this was the “Premium” most wanted guide – gloves $19 and over.

Keep your eyes peeled and fingers ready to type your own insight when we release the most wanted for gloves under $19

Appreciate the testing effort, but this site put me onto the MG golf gloves, and even though they don’t export the final cost to me in the UK once I’ve paid a shipper and taxes is about 60% less than these premium brands. I went with the Elite versions, and though I deliberately went small on the sizing, and I’m rough on gloves, the durability is great.

I think the MG Elite is premium (softest thinnest Cabrera) but at budget prices. Call me mad for buying them lol.

      GolfSpy Tim

Not mad for buying them… they’re a GREAT buy… but… they aren’t a premium glove, and they really don’t compare to a premium glove.

Having Cabretta leather is no longer a thing of “premium” gloves – it’s almost every glove out there. Cabretta runs the gamut of quality/thickness – it’s not all created equal.

Again, nothing against you for liking MG, they make a solid glove – but for a different buyer than what this Most Wanted is geared to. (think of it as Acura vs. Ferrari)

Never use one, what is good for Freddie Couples is good enough for me.
