Game Golf releases Smart Grips with Golf Pride

game1

Being first to market isn’t easy, and being first a second time using your same product can be almost impossible – so props to Game Golf on their announced of the new Smart Grips in conjunction with Golf Pride.

The grip we were shown at the PGA Show in Orlando, Florida this week is a Golf Pride Tour Velvet that has the butt end of the grip essentially “cut” out/molded for an embedded Game Golf RFID Tag IN the grip.

game3

This provides two new noteworthy advantages:
1) No affect on swing weight (not that the tags ever created much effect – but haters gotta hate and that is a common “complaint” from end users with anything that attaches to the butt end of their golf club)
2) No more lost tags (this didn’t come from the official release information – BUT from our experience in testing, with enough play, you stand the chance of losing a tag or three)

game2

According to the announcement this is “the world’s first all-in-one tech enabled grip” – and from the firsts looks it is really well done – a clean design on a grip worth considering.

The cherry on the cake? Re-Grip Notification – Yes, game golf will let you know when it’s time to change your grips. Also – the tags can be re-used when your grips wear out.

Had by GG for 14 months just upgraded to live. had no issue with the tags though they are warring out now so I cannot see the tag name on the tag. A they crew in very securely. deong weight … Not an issue weight has not affected by swing and seen no evidence to suggest it would. belt clip could be an issue and does need to be looked at

I see the online golf catalog is still going strong. Used to be insightful articles…now just: hey, buy this…buy that…this is new…check these out. MGS is now a 80% marketing tool. Too bad.

Great idea. I purchased the game golf product from the Game Golf Rep at the Wells Fargo Championship 2 years ago. He gave me a extra set of tags (which I didn’t release what a benefit that was at the time). Great product and works well. My current problem is that I have gone to a counterbalance putter. No place to screw in the tag on the putter.

So if you already have the Game golf can you get the grips menus the tags so that you can use your old tags …I would buy that but not new grips plus new tags …don’t need new tags …

In my experience it was not the tags that fell off, but rather the device that attaches to a players belt. In my opinion, the device has a design flaw in that it cannot be securely fastened to a belt. It simply “hangs” on the belt, and in my experience, fell off multiple times per round.
I had contacted the company and explained the design flaw problem with only the suggestion that I try different size belts (hardly a solution). After losing the device and contacting the company, I was informed that I would have to buy another complete version of their still flawed product as they did not offer replacement parts. Sadly, I have made the decision that
Arccos will be my replacement system for this upcoming season.

Any holster company can show them how to make a belt hook/clip that simply will not fall off.

Get a wrist strap lanyard (for camera, etc) – there’s an example link to amazon below.
I had the problem with the device coming loose a lot and got a lanyard, wrapped the small loop around the hinge/latch on the GG device and then put my belt through the large loop. Clip the GG device to either the pocket, belt or belt loop. If it comes loose, no problem.

Interesting. I bought GG in Sept 2014 and never had the unit fall off once, and I play about 80 rounds a year. I’ve lost 1 tag, however, but since I changed grip types, they seem to be more secure in the CP2.

Another great step forward from Game Golf. The stats and new Apple Watch feature are fantastic! This will be another nice add on when I go to regrip.

Great partnership and confirms GG as market leader. Also acknowledgement from the industry that tech is hear to stay. Sure it’s not for everyone but if you love your stats and want to improve its a no-brainer. They start on their most popular grip and will no doubt introduce more in time. Should hit stores March/April price tbc but won’t break the bank. You also get notified now when you need you grips changing!! Class…

Maybe the original tag screws into the grip.
I can’t imaging gamegolf would expect us to change tags as often as we golf grips.
It’s supposed to protect tags so longevity is the purpose? That or making more money.

Were the original “inserts” that much of a hassle? I’m either missing something or this wasn’t really needed

Unless we are talking about something else, the originals I’m thinking of simply plug on to the rear of the grip in the little opening. Hence, they easily fell off.

Do they…. They screwed into the small hole in the end of the grip, I’ve never heard of them “falling out”

I heard swing weight mentioned but I’m not buying into that, like young never had any issues. That said, I think it’s great.

The original tags “screw” into your grip and invariably the tags fall out while in use and you lose a tag.

Embedding the tag into the grip solves this problem.

And as stated – haters like to call out “swing weight” – this solution cures that “problem” as well.

In 1.5 years of having GG, I’ve only had 1 tag fall out. However, the ID molded into the end of the tag have worn off from rubbing on the bottom of the bag, so when it came time to regrip, I had to write the club with a sharpie on the each tag. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

This is brilliant interns of monitoring data and tracking your swing tendencies! Now the big question, what do these grips cost and what does it cost to download the app to be able to monitor everything? Paul Michael Grillo

Yet… you still have to touch the grip to that annoying sensor attached to your waist… not much of an upgrade if you ask me, especially since the likelihood that I want this specific GP grip is pretty low.

Give me Arccos and call it a day.

it’s the logical choice… it’s the best selling grip in the world by a pretty wide margin.

and the tagging is pretty easy to get used to. at least it was for me. and Arccos is twice the price! not an apples to apples comparison and that system has its own issues, according to some.

anyway, it offers another choice in the golf tech market and that’s a good thing!
