First Look – PUMA GOLF IGNITE PWRADAPT Hi-Tops

Earlier this year we told you about PUMA’s new IGNITE PWRADAPT golf shoe. Feel free to go back and review the design and the technology as it’s completely relevant to the company’s new latest release which may just prove to be the most polarizing shoe in golf.

Just announced is the PUMA IGNITE PWRADAPT Hi-Top, which is being billed as a fresh take on the footwear trend that started with Rickie Fowler in 2016.

“Our goal each season is to push the game forward with products that challenge the status quo while respecting the traditions of golf. The IGNITE PWRADAPT Hi-Tops represent this continued drive for style innovation and the evolution of a silhouette that’s become synonymous with PUMA Golf and Rickie. It’s our way of integrating the latest in on-trend fashion elements with cutting-edge golf footwear. The combination of the proven PWRADAPT platform and a hi-top knitted upper brings the perfect blend of style and performance suited for a wide variety of conditions golfers can encounter on course.” – Grant Knudson, Global Head of Footwear & Accessories, PUMA Golf

PWRADAPT Hi-Top-3

In addition to the features of the…let’s call it the Lo-Top model, you get an EVOKNIT (roughly PUMA’s equivalent of Nike’s FLYKNIT) collar for comfort and breathability. A hook and loop Perfect Fit Strap helps create a customized fit and locked in support.

We already know that this Hi-Top, any hi-top for that matter, is polarizing once it leaves the hardwood and hits the golf course and frankly, I’m not sure if there’s an age limit on these or if pairing them with joggers might be a requirement. That said, the design makes the high portion of the shoe look like a tall sock, so it’s not nearly as bad as some of you probably think. Besides, I’ll argue all day that you’re as young as you feel and age is just a state of mind.

PWRADAPT Hi-Top-13

You…whoever you are…can totally pull these off.

My point being, if you love ‘em, go for it, I’m not here to judge. If they’re not your thing, don’t buy ‘em. It’s really that simple.

Pricing & Availability

The IGNITE PWRADAPT Hi-Top is available beginning today in two colorways Grey Violet, and Black. Retail Price is $220.

Here’s what I don’t understand about some people: If the style doesn’t fit your taste, then just don’t buy them… buy a pair that you like; there are many many different styles the run the gamut. Don’t get mad at Puma for pushing the boundaries; it’s not a personal affront.

I wouldn’t wear them, but I’m glad Puma is making them… I’m sure some young kid will see them, think they’re cool, and maybe make them take a harder look a the sport of golf?

Sorry, Looks like Puma went to the chinese and added some bells and whistle add ons to an otherwise 4-5 injected molded components. Perhaps the cheapest way of making a shoe. Besides being ugly for my taste this $6 per pair landed cost will be in the bargain clearance bin at any retailer that bothers to buy them- beware!

Making hi tops should be great for golf. Many of us who love golf are former athletes with bad ankles who like to walk. Making a great hi top to better support my feet/ankles should be a win win situation. Thanks puma keep pushing the shoe boundaries.

Not for geezers like me, maybe get away tucked over by long pant legs. These could help some with support to the ankles, they certainly saved my squash game years ago after a bad ankle turn over and crack. If they attract more people to the game they are a good thing.

Everyone is talking about getting more young people in the game. Then when a brand puts out a product that appeals to them the golf community seems to lash out because it is not traditional. Glad to see Puma trying something new.
