Whether you stripe it 300 yards down the middle with the consistency of a pro or spray it all over the track, the driver is the most gratifying club to hit. One of the best parts of yanking out the old 1-wood? Peeling off the headcover. For that fleeting moment when the sunshine glints off the metal face of the driver, anything is possible. Not only is it a keen indicator of your golf personality, it’s also one of the most important clubs you own. Why, then, would you be content with the standard headcover?
Along with the obvious role of protecting your big investment, the best driver headcovers bring personal flair to your golf bag in a way not much else can. Tiger Woods had his plush, toy-like tiger, Craig Stadler had his walrus and Andrew “Beef” Johnston had Arby’s Curly Fries. Regardless of how you felt about those (fries make my hands feel a bit greasy, even as I type this), they all made a statement. Your headcover doesn’t have to be quite as buzzy but, in 2024, there’s no reason to keep the boring headcover that comes with your big stick.
There are too many epic headcovers out there to list them all but we put together a list of our personal favorites to get you started.
The Best Driver Headcovers
Daphne
Remember the tiger cover I mentioned? Daphne makes that. While we love the orange- and black-striped feline, a more ubiquitous pick for the golfer is the pesky Caddyshack gopher. Each Daphne headcover is covered for life and will fit even the biggest drivers with ease.
Dormie
Dormie makes some of the finest leather headcovers on the market. Each one is equal parts rugged and refined, perfect for any golf course you frequent, whether it’s the country club or the local goat track.
Gumtree
NYC-based Gumtree Golf and Nature Club is bringing the outdoors to your game and doing it with aplomb. Their driver headcover looks like an old-fashioned 1-wood sock but is made out of 100 percent American wool by the experts at Fore Ewe in Oregon.
Random Golf Club
RGC has to be in the convo here if for no other reason than their adamant support of self-expression and freedom on the golf course. Their Cairn headcovers blend mindful mantras with the rock stack familiar to anyone who is looking for a guide on the trail, in life or on the course.
Jones Sports
Jones makes some of the best bags in the game and that prowess extends into their headcover game. The Circa ‘71 headcover has a plush, fuzzy microfleece exterior that’s soft to the touch and a sherpa interior that cradles your driver with just as much coziness.
Devereux
Devereux’s streetwise style brings a bit of swag to the course, whether you’re decked out in their apparel or covering up your woods with their headcovers. The Icon driver headcover features their signature golf visor-clad skull whose teeth remind us of the grimace we make when our drive goes juuuust a bit wide.
Malbon x Seamus
Seamus are specialists in golf accessories including a slew of headcovers. Malbon, the SoCal brand taking golf by storm, whipped up a little something extra, pairing Seamus’s Pendleton collaboration with their signature “M” logo to make a barrel headcover that will somehow cause double takes and blend in simultaneously.
Quiet Golf
Puffer jackets may be reserved for winter but when it comes to your driver, a puffer is year-round protection. Whether the golf cart gets a bit jumpy on cart paths or you drop your driver after the fourth visit from the beverage cart, the Quiet Golf Puffer Cover will keep your driver cozy and safe in every season.
Maxfli
Maxfli has made a somewhat surprising splash in the headcover market by crafting affordable covers with vintage-inspired designs that are just as well-suited for a wood actually made of wood as they are for today’s featherweight driving monstrosities.
Rainbow Trout
Etsy is a surprisingly exceptional place to find a headcover, especially if you’re looking for one that highlights your favorite non-golf activity. The Rainbow Trout headcover features fleece lining and a hand-embroidered trophy fish that has an impressive attention to detail. The Sunfish Golf shop makes this cover alongside a ton of other custom covers.
Stitch
Stitch Golf’s vintage sock-style headcover is made with a unique tech wool fabric that’s actually 100 percent acrylic, meaning it has the feel of wool but boasts much more water resistance. If you’re an all-season player who doesn’t mind getting a bit wet, this is the cover for you.
Radmor
Seattle’s sustainability-minded Radmor makes some of our favorite apparel, so it makes sense that their headcover makes the list. Made with 100 percent natural leather that’s been treated for water and stain resistance, the BobRad barrel cover will fit drivers of any size and will blend in nicely with whatever color scheme you have going.
Senna Made
Sneakerhead-turned leather goods maker Matt Senna sure knows how to make a sweet driver headcover. Fine materials and even better craftmanship make for an excellent piece that’s both fashionable and functional.
Cayce Golf
What’s more fun than a dumpster fire headcover? How about a Transfusion? Cayce is the king of fun driver headcovers. They’ve got designs for days. Oh, and they’re well crafted, too. Don’t sleep on Cayce.
