Head to Head: Slow Versus Mid Versus Fast

The PING G430 MAX 10K was our pick for the best driver of 2024 but we dug deeper to find the best drivers for different swing speeds. For fast swingers, the TaylorMade Qi10 LS is the top choice. Mid swing speed players should consider the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond. For slower swing speeds, the PING G430 MAX 10K remains the best overall. If you’re in the market for a new driver and know your swing speed, these options are worth learning more about.

TaylorMade Qi10 LS (Best for high swing speed)

The TaylorMade Qi10 LS driver is the best overall for high swing speed players. It didn’t get the best overall score in any category but it did so well in accuracy and distance that it came out on top.

Testers rated the TaylorMade Qi 10 LS highly but they also said it was great-looking, had impressive feel and was one of the better TaylorMade drivers for keeping spin down. This is undoubtedly considered a low-spin driver that can enhance overall performance for the fastest swingers.

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond (Best for mid swing speed)

The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond is the best driver for mid-swing speeds. This may come as a bit of a surprise as this one is usually ranked for higher swing speed players. However, our mid swing speed testers found it had both distance and forgiveness capability, making it the best option.

We also asked players (aside from the data) which club they would be most likely to buy and the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond ranked at the top. Most comments were centered around the feel and the lower spin but players also enjoyed the top-down look of the club.

The Triple Diamond model has continually ranked among the best in MyGolfSpy’s best driver testing year after year. The Paradym Ai Smoke is a versatile driver with built-in adjustability to help fine-tune spin, forgiveness and accuracy.

PING G430 MAX 10K (Best for low swing speed)

The PING G430 MAX 10K is perfect for golfers with swing speeds under 90 mph. This driver excels in accuracy, distance and forgiveness. Despite concerns about its high MOI, testers found it produced tight dispersion. Many testers praised it, with one saying, “I would recommend this driver to a bunch of my golfing buddies.”

Winning the Best Driver award in 2024, the PING G430 MAX 10K also stands out as the best overall for lower swing speeds. If you’re unsure about a new driver, give the PING G430 MAX 10K a try.

Bottom line

Whether you compare these three drivers based on swing speed or not, the PING G430 MAX 10K still stands out as the overall best driver for 2024 with a score of 9.8/10.

The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond was the runner-up in the overall test with a score of 9.5.

Regardless of swing speed, based on our data, either of these two drivers would be worth testing.

The TaylorMade Qi10 finished much further down the list with a score of 7.9. It’s really a driver built for those with higher swing speeds. The forgiveness and accuracy scores for the Qi10 really brought down the overall results.

TaylorMade versus Callaway versus PING: Which is right for you?

Who’s it For?

Players who need accuracy: This driver ranked in the top five for the straight-shot metric for high swing players for 36 percent of the group.

Those who need extra yardage: The same impressive results as accuracy: 36 percent ranked this in the top five for distance off the tee.

Who’s it not for?

Golfers with a tight budget: The list price is $629, higher than other options on the market.

Players who need forgiveness: The Qi10 LS ranked in the bottom half for forgiveness.

Who’s it For?

Anyone who wants to maximize distance: The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond offers impressive carry and total distance.

Players who can benefit from low spin: This driver fits in the lower-spin category.

Who’s it not for?

Golfers who struggle to get enough spin: Make sure you have a general idea of how much you spin your drives so that you don’t end up with a driver that doesn’t spin enough for you.

Anyone who struggles with accuracy: Although forgiveness and distance ratings were high, this is not the most accurate driver for mid swing speeds.

Who’s it For?

Golfers who want accuracy: The PING G430 MAX 10K is the most accurate driver for low swing speed and, in fact, for all golfers. It was the highest-performing straight-shot percentage driver for more than half the field.

Players who need versatility: It’s one thing to be accurate but distance also matters. The PING G430 MAX 10K brings plenty of distance.

Who’s it not for?

Anyone particular about driver head size: TThe PING G430 Max 10K looks big from the top down so if that bothers you, steer clear.

Golfers on a budget: This new PING has done really well so the price will remain high for a while.

I have a 88-90 swing speed and I tested all three when I got fitted in April. The QI10 was best for me on distance and accuracy, gained 10-15 yards over my M6. So with my swing speed and swing I’m very happy with my QI10.

I have a question. Typically when I see “Fast” it is 115 mph, with mid being 100 and (s)low being 85. My swing speed varies between 92 and 98 mph for an average of 94-95. Should I be looking at mid speed or slow speed? The same question would apply to those in the 110 range. Should they look at drivers for mid or fast speed?

Your bottom line about Qi10 was the following: “The forgiveness and accuracy scores for the Qi10 really brought down the overall results”

Then immediately afterward, in the ‘Who’s it for’ part of Qi10, you say “players who need accuracy”

I don’t want to judge prematurely so can you provide some insight to explain how those two lines don’t directly contradict one another?

It looks like accuracy scores in your graphic are actually good for the Qi10 so I’m just wondering why you said accuracy was what brought it down.

Agreed, inquiring minds want to know. Seems like a mistake in stating accuracy is a factor that brought scores down, it was a 9.5!! I guess an Editor doesn’t QC these articles before they’re published?!?

There really isn’t anything new here. The newsletter headline mentioned taking those 3 drivers and putting them head to head, but then all the story ended up being is a a bunch of recycled information already available elsewhere.

The newsletter headlines and links are getting too clickbait-like for my test and too often link to stories that lack quality content. Don’t get me wrong, there’s still plenty of good content on the site, but more and more I’m seeing things where the general motivation seems to be simply generating clicks and page visits.

So true! Half the articles now seem to be either recycled content or covert ads. We need fewer emails and fewer low junk articles.

If you want free quality content, you’re going to have to put up with advertising. Can’t expect MSG to exist off donations only……

Absolutely correct; the click-bait articles outweigh the articles with any meaningful content. The recent batch of writers don’t seem to go into much depth with anything they present, just a lot of copy/paste info slapped into a “review” that feels like obligatory word-count contributions for the week. MGS has lost its way.
