Game-improvement irons are for golfers looking for that perfect blend of distance, accuracy and forgiveness. If you are looking for your next set of irons, two that you are likely to come across are the TaylorMade Qi10 and the PING G430. Here, we will compare the TaylorMade Qi10 and PING G430 irons to determine which one comes out on top. Without spoiling too much of the surprise, we can tell you that neither of these golf irons made the top five in this year’s testing.

Distance
We say accuracy should be your main priority but we know you don’t want to give up the extra yards. It’s hard to purchase a new set of irons and see a loss in distance.
When it comes to distance performance, the TaylorMade Qi10 will be better than the PING G430. The Qi10 ranked third overall for distance, the PING G430 16th. The ball comes off the face hot with the Qi10.
Accuracy
Your No. 1 priority when purchasing a game-improvement iron should be accuracy. We measure accuracy using Strokes Gained and it’s all about how close you are getting to the target. Accuracy saves you strokes on the golf course and helps lower your scores.
Here’s the good news about the TaylorMade Qi10 and PING G430: They have almost identical accuracy rankings. The Qi10 ranks fifth overall, the PING sixth. Both irons are above average in their accuracy performance.
Forgiveness
Anytime we see an iron with impressive distance performance, there is almost always a trade-off. Luckily, the trade-off with the TaylorMade Qi10 was not in the accuracy category. You’ll find it in forgiveness.
The TaylorMade Qi10 ranks 13th for forgiveness, the PING G430 fifth. We measure forgiveness by examining how consistently an iron can produce expected shot outcomes. We look at carry distance deltas, ball speed deltas, backspin deltas and dispersion.
As long as the TaylorMade Qi10 is, it will not give you the same consistency as the PING G430 irons.
Value
The PING G430 and the TaylorMade Qi10 are priced almost exactly the same. PING has done a few price reductions lately so the G430 may come in a little less than the Qi10. Don’t make any decisions on TaylorMade Qi10 versus PING G430 based on price.
Bottom line
Testing the TaylorMade Qi10 and the PING G430 head-to-head at a golf fitting is always a good idea. However, what you are most likely going to find is that the TaylorMade Qi10 gives you a few extra yards albeit with a little less consistency than the PING G430.
The TaylorMade finished seventh overall in the 2024 Best Game Improvement iron test and the PING finished eighth. The distance score for the PING G430 irons hurt the overall performance quite a bit. For short hitters, the PING is likely not the best fit unless you can find a shaft that balances out that loss of distance.
However, if you are a player who needs help with consistency in your game, the PING G430 would be a good option.

I’m really surprised that the G430 rated so low in distance. I’m a 67 y.o. 11-index 90-95 driver speed player, and with the stock graphite shaft the Pings were a full club longer than the Stealths I had been playing. And they have a higher trajectory and hold greens better. I haven’t hit the Q10, but just want to flag that I think the low distance rating for the G430 is suspect.

It’s more complicated than what I think they’re measuring. If you stick both in the robot the Taylormade has more distance than the ping for that given swing (speed, tempo, acceleration, etc…). However you (we) don’t all have the same swing therefore clubs will give us different results.
The most important part of club fitting in my experience is do to a static fitting (such as Ping) to get you in a ballpark figure of length, lie, grip size. Then hit as many combos as you can to find what’s best for you.

This was my fitting experience as well. The Ping was longer, with more spin, higher peak ball flight, and sharper descent angle. And the ball felt like a rock coming off the Taylormade face. I was surprised at the results as my last 3 sets of irons had all been Taylormade.
