Our 2024 Best Game-Improvement Iron test proved yet again that performance within a category of irons can vary significantly. If you are on the hunt for extra distance, the top three longest game-improvement irons are the Wilson Dynapower, PXG 0311 XP GEN 6 and the TaylorMade Qi10. As you look at these longer game-improvement irons, remember that more distance does not always equate to actual game improvement.
Wilson Dynapower

Who Is It For?
✅ Someone looking for pure distance. The Wilson Dynapower is the longest game-improvement iron of 2024.
✅ Golfers who are concerned with cost. At $699, it is certainly not the most expensive iron in the test.
Who Is It Not For?
❌ Anyone who needs accuracy: Finished second from the bottom for accuracy.
❌ Players who struggle with consistency: As the least forgiving iron in the test, it’s not a smart choice for inconsistent players.
Why Buy
The Wilson Dynapower is the longest game-improvement iron of 2024. It is also the lowest-performing iron in the entire test, with a score of just 5.4/10 overall.
In our testing, the emphasis is on accuracy when comparing one game-improvement iron to another.
When it comes to carry distance and total distance, the Wilson Dynapower is the longest. Testers described the Dynapower as “long but inconsistent” and “stupid long and hot off the face.”
Wilson did a good job of ensuring golfers could get a few extra yards. However, if you struggle with consistency and hitting your target, consider using an iron not built solely for distance.

PXG 0311 XP GEN6

Who Is It For?
✅ Someone looking for more distance. The second-longest game-improvement iron of 2024.
✅ The golfer who is particular about sound. The overall subjective ranking for these irons was not great but testers liked the sound.
Who Is It Not For?
❌ Players looking for forgiveness: Finished near the bottom for forgiveness and consistency.
❌ Anyone looking to hit more targets: One of the least accurate golf irons in the test.
Why Buy
The PXG 0311 XP GEN6 is the second-longest game-improvement iron of 2024. It produced some of the longest distances we saw in the test but the shots were not as accurate or consistent as testers had hoped.
The PXG 0311 XP GEN6 finished 16th (out of 17) for accuracy and 16th for forgiveness. It also secured a 16th overall finish. However, if you are looking to maximize the length you get, you can do it with these.
Go for a fitting if you want to try and dial in some of that accuracy and forgiveness with the correct shaft.
Score: 8.9
TaylorMade Qi

Who Is It For?
✅ Someone looking for solid distance. Top-three finish for longest game-improvement iron.
✅ The golfer who values a mix of performance. In addition to being long, the TaylorMade Qi finished higher than the Wilson and PXG for forgiveness and accuracy.
Who Is It Not For?
❌ Players on a budget: Premium newer release with higher pricing.
❌ Golfers who lacks consistency: Still ranked 13th/17th for forgiveness and the ability for golfers to repeat the same shot.
Why Buy
The TaylorMade Qi irons may be third in total distance but they finished higher in the 2023 best game-improvement iron test than the longest and runner-up irons. The Qi secured fifth place for accuracy and 13th place for forgiveness.
They just fell out of the top five for 2023 with a seventh-place finish.
If you prioritize distance but still want something that consistently hits a target, this could be your best bet.
Examples like the TaylorMade Qi really show the direct relationship between increased distance and decreased accuracy. As always, go for a fitting to try to balance this equation as best you can for your game.
