Think it’s going to take $1,000 or more to get into a new set of golf irons? Not necessarily. We can’t tell you that all of our best golf irons of 2024 fall into the “affordable” category. However, these sets had impressive rankings in our golf iron testing and all cost less than $700. If you are on a budget, check out some of the best golf irons under $700.
Tommy Armour 845+ (Best Super Game-Improvement Iron 2024)

Who Is It For?
✅ Golfers who want forgiveness: One of the most consistent super game-improvement irons in producing similar shot outcomes.
✅ Players who value accuracy. The most critical aspect of choosing a golf iron is accuracy. The Tommy Armour 845+ is the second most accurate super game-improvement iron.
Who Is It Not For?
❌ Anyone who needs maximum distance: In the bottom half of the field for distance, not as long as PING G730 or Callaway Big Bertha 23.
❌ Golfers looking for premium pricing: If you think the price of a golf iron determines the performance, the $399 Tommy Armour 845+ is not for you.
Why Buy
The Tommy Armour 845+ are the best overall super game-improvement irons of 2024. They also happen to be $399. It’s not often a golf club in this price range can deliver the performance necessary to grab the top spot.
With the Tommy Armour 845+ Irons, you’ll find impressive accuracy and consistency (forgiveness). The only real downside is the distance capability. The Tommy Armour 845+ is ranked eighth overall for distance. If you struggle to get distance with your irons, you can lose five or six yards compared to the longest iron in the super game-improvement test, the PING G730.
Remember, with more distance comes less accuracy and forgiveness. The lack of distance in the Tommy Armour 845+ irons partly makes them so good for inaccurate and inconsistent players. Any way you look at it, the $399 price easily made these the best-value super game-improvement irons of 2024.

Tour Edge Exotics E723 (Best Game-Improvement Irons 2024)

Who Is It For?
✅ Players who need forgiveness. The most forgiving game-improvement irons of 2024.
✅ Anyone looking for more accuracy. The Tour Edge Exotics E723 7-iron was one of the most accurate in the test.
Who Is It Not For?
❌ Golfers who need maximum distance: Not as long as it is accurate and forgiving but still offers solid distance potential.
❌ Players who are particular about the look: Some testers said the look was the biggest knock against the Tour E723.
Why Buy
The Tour Edge Exotics E723 irons have dropped below their original $799 price and now you can find them for less than $700. Sets are now starting at around $550.
Although the E723 irons earned the best overall title for game-improvement irons, they are really impressive for the forgiveness they offer. The E723 is the most forgiving game-improvement iron of 2024. When we measure forgiveness, we look at how consistent an iron is in producing similar shot outcomes. When you know what a golf ball will do when it comes off the face of the iron, the game becomes a lot easier.
These irons were ranked pretty low in subjective appeal but still finished highest overall for performance. If you choose a set of golf irons based on subjective things like looks and feel, the Tour Edge Exotics E723 isn’t for you.

MacGregor MACSPD (Best Game-Improvement Iron for Accuracy)

Who Is It For?
✅ Golfers who want to hit more greens. If you need more accuracy in your iron shots, you’ll find it with the MacGregor MACSPD.
✅ Anyone looking for more playable shot outcomes. MacGregor MACSPD is one of the most consistent (forgiving) game-improvement irons when it comes to ball speed, carry distance, backspin and dispersion.
Who Is It Not For?
❌ Anyone looking for extra yards: The shortest game-improvement iron in the 2024 test. If you need distance, you won’t find it here.
Why Buy
The MacGregor MACSPD is the most accurate game-improvement iron of 2024. Accuracy is important; we weighed it with the most value in our testing. What good are distance and forgiveness if accuracy keeps you from shooting lower scores?
With the MACSPD, you’ll be impressed with its ability to produce similar ball speed and shot dispersion on each swing. One tester said, “I love the darker finish. It is shorter than others, but it is very consistent.”
This pretty much sums up the MACSPD. It’s the shortest game-improvement iron in 2024 but it makes up for its lack of distance in other areas.

Wilson Dynapower (Best Game-Improvement Iron for Distance)

Who Is It For?
✅ Players who want maximum distance. The Wilson Dynapower is the best game-improvement iron for distance of 2024.
✅ Golfers looking for a club that is hot off the face. The ball jumps off the face of these Wilson Dynapowers.
Who Is It Not For?
❌ Golfers looking for accuracy: Unfortunately, the extra distance in the Wilson Dynapower made them one of the least accurate game-improvement irons.
❌ Anyone who relies on forgiveness: The Wilson Dynapower is one of the least consistent golf irons in the 2024 test.
Why Buy
The Wilson Dynapower irons made our list of the best golf irons under $700 because of their distance capabilities. They are the longest game-improvement iron of 2024. However, when it comes to forgiveness and accuracy, the Dynapower struggles.
Golfers looking for an affordable game-improvement iron that hits the ball a long way will like what the Dynapower offers. However, you’ll probably want to get fitted to ensure those extra yards are not costing you strokes.

Ram Axial Forged (Third Best Player’s Iron)

Who Is It For?
✅ Players who want distance in a player’s iron. The Ram Axial Forged had surprising distance numbers with a second-place overall finish.
✅ Golfers looking for player’s irons on a budget. Player’s irons aren’t typically easy on the wallet so the Ram offers a good option.
Who Is It Not For?
❌ Golfers looking for premium feel and looks: The subjective appeal from the Ram Axial Forged was not as good as the more expensive irons.
❌ Golfers who want no offset: Testers noted the Ram had a bit more offset than other player’s irons in the test.
Why Buy
If you notice, none of the top irons for distance, accuracy or forgiveness in the player’s distance iron test made it to our list. They all cost considerably more than $700 for a set.
However, one player’s iron made a name for itself in the 2024 testing: the Ram Axial Forged. The Ram’s overall score was 8/10 and it finished third overall in the player’s irons test.
The Ram Axial Forged placed second overall for distance and had the longest 7-iron for more than half of our testers.
The downsides, of course, are the looks, feel and sound. The Ram Axial forged iron did not rank among the top choices for subjective appeal. That didn’t surprise us, considering it’s a third of the price of other player’s irons that ranked higher for subjective appeal.
Better players don’t have many options for affordable golf irons but the Ram Axial Forged is one to consider.

Looks are not everything (nor are a couple of practice swings) but those 845+ irons are very premium in looks and feel. Also, the club head is not overly large compared to other super game improvement irons.
