11 Favorites for Fall Golf

For those of us living where snow is inevitable, the fall golf season is upon us. And while most of us will tell you that fall golf is the best golf, sometimes it requires us to change what we wear and what goes into our golf bags.

These are 11 of our favorites for fall golf.

KJUS Reach Jacket

Kjus Reach Jacket

Layering is key to comfortable fall golf and the KJUS Reach jacket has quickly become my favorite piece for cooler dry days. It’s lightweight, insulated and has a graphene lining (remember graphene?) for added warmth. It doesn’t restrict movement and, for whatever it’s worth, the interior lining of the pockets is ridiculously soft.

Travis Mathew Doggy Paddle Beanie

When temperatures drop, you might want to consider ditching the cap for a beanie (or tuque, as my Canadian friends call them). Keeping your ears (and head) warm will go a long way to make even the coldest fall day more enjoyable.

Cordless Leaf Blower

For all the beautiful foliage, nobody talks about the ugly side of fall golf. Once those leaves start to fall, green becomes littered and finding the line requires moving the leaves. The ZoomBroom is lightweight and designed to fit in your golf bag. For something a bit more multi-functional, I use a Milwaukee M12 which can be strapped to a cart and the battery works with my other Milwaukee tools

Vokey WedgeWorks L Grind Wedge

Vokey WedgeWorks V Grind Wedge

Between morning (and evening) dew and cooler temperatures, fall often brings softer course conditions. With that, it can make sense for golfers with low-bounce wedges to transition to something that likes to dig a little less. When leaves the leaves start to change, I swap my low-bounce T for a Vokey WedgeWorks V Grind as the go-to lob wedge for the fall season.

Straight Down Crusher Q-Zip

Straight Down Crusher Quarter Zip

An ultra-light quarter-zip, the Straight Down Crusher is ideal for fall days when temperatures dip slightly. It’s a nice add for those looking for a pullover that offers comfort without being bulky enough to restrict movement. Our friends in southern states that see a lot of 65-degree fall days can get a lot of use out of Q-Zip like the Crusher.

Hot Shotz Golf Hand Warmers

Hot Shotz hand warmers

Dirt-cheap, Hot Shotz are almost ubiquitous in pro shops on courses where fall golf is played. They should provide more than enough warmth to last your round, especially when paired with something like a wearable hand-warming pouch.

Red Rooster Cart Mitts

Red Rooster cart mitts

If you’re not a fan of wearing a pouch around your waist, Red Rooster Winter Cart Mitts are an excellent alternative. They’re waterproof, lined on the inside and offer a pouch for the heat packs we just mentioned. Easy to take on and off, the mitts will keep your hands warm between swings.

Titleist Neck Warmer

Titleist Snood

Golf’s answer to the man scarf, this fleece-lined Snood (that’s a fun word) Neck Warmer will help protect you from the elements as you try and squeeze every last day from the golf season.

adidas Cold.RDY Jogger Pants

adidas cold.RDY joggers

Hands down the warmest and comfiest pants you can wear for fall golf. They are joggers (sorry) but they’re lined with fleece and stretch in every which way.

Tomo Golf Ninja Kit Divot Tool

Tomo divot tools

If there’s a deadlier divot tool out there, we haven’t seen it. And while you’re probably not looking to kill anybody on the course, the softer conditions of the fall season often mean even bigger ball marks to fix. Make sure you have a quality divot tool ready to make repairs.

Golf Towel

Perhaps an obvious one, and you’ve probably already got one on or in your bag, but for fall golf, you really need a towel. The softer conditions mean more mud on both club and ball and with lift, clean and place rules often in place, you’re going to want to make the most of your opportunity to clean things up a bit.

BONUS – White Golf Balls

This one feels excessively generic but if you typically play a colored golf ball, fall is generally the right time to switch back to golf’s original color. For all the visibility benefits in the air, when the leaves start to fall, yellow (and red) golf balls can become more difficult to find among the leaves.

I’ll be honest, when it gets that cold, my clubs and I are going inside for the season.

But for those who brave the cold, I wish you all well in your extended golf season. Enjoy!
