Are Vessel PrimeX 2.0 Backpacks Worth The $$$?

I don’t know about you but, as a million-mile business traveler, a good backpack matters to me. When you spend as much time in airports and on planes as any frequent flyer does, comfort, organization and long-lasting quality make the journey a little easier.

Those three metrics make me a fan of Vessel’s new PrimeX 2.0 backpacks.

Functionally, the PrimeX 2.0 series does the same job as something you can get on Amazon for a quarter of the price. Anything with straps, pockets and zippers will help you carry stuff around on your back. If you’re not on the road three weeks out of every month, a lower-end model might be all you need.

Vessel PrimeX 2.0 backpacks

Vessel says its new Vessel PrimeX 2.0 backpack line “blends sleek minimalism with smart organization, elevated materials and travel-first features.” My biggest beef with business backpacks is the lack of structure. There’s only so much room under the seat in front of you, after all. The new PrimeX 2.0, like Vessel’s original PrimeX backpacks, is designed to hold its shape and stay structured. Additionally, there are enough pockets to stay organized but not so many that you wind up wasting the space or cramming in more crap than you need.

Since it’s a Vessel, it has to have at least one magnetic enclosure. The PrimeX 2.0 features what Vessel calls its Magnetic Pocket Pod. It’s a quick-access compartment for items such as keys, ear buds, pens and any other item you might want to grab quickly. The pod also comes with a locking feature for a little extra security when you need it.

The main compartment features velour-lined sleeves for your laptop and an extended monitor setup if you have one. The PrimeX 2.0 Regular fits a 15-inch laptop. The 2.0 Plus fits up to a 16-inch laptop.

There’s also plenty of room for cords and chargers, noise-cancelling headphones and other travel essentials.

The 2.0 Plus, as the name suggests, it the larger of the two. It includes a dedicated compartment for shoes and enough extra clothing for a quick overnight trip.

Vessel PrimeX 2.0 backpacks: Specs, price and availability

As with Vessel’s golf bags, the PrimeX 2.0 backpack line is made from Vessel’s signature premium synthetic leather. Both the regular and the Plus models feature antimicrobial liners, water-resistant zippers with genuine leather zipper pulls, padded back panels, large main compartments with internal zip pockets and the Magnetic Pocket Pod with a lock.

Both also feature dual water bottle sleeves, leather straps and a trolley sleeve that slides over the handle of a rolling suitcase. The standard PrimeX 2.0 backpack has seven external and 14 internal pockets. The larger Plus model features eight external and 15 internal pockets.

As for pricing, it’s a Vessel, so you can expect it to be premium. Whether it’s worth it to you depends solely on how much you travel and what you expect from your backpack. For me, it’s structure, ease of access and how well it fits under the seat. I favor well-thought-out storage and organization. Few things in flight suck as much as being stuck in a cramped seat and rifling through your bag at 30,000 feet.
