Best Mallet Putters From Every Distance 2026

Mallet putters are having a moment. But not every mallet performs the same and that becomes clear when you break down the data by distance.

In our 2026 mallet putter test, 29 mallets were tested across short, medium and long putts. Some models separated themselves at specific distances. If you know which part of your putting game needs the most help, this should help you narrow down which putters to test.

Bettinardi BB 7.0: Best mallet putter for short putts 2026

The Bettinardi BB 7.0 earned its spot here with the best short-putt performance in the mallet test: a short PuttView Handicap of −7.4, the strongest score in the entire 29-putter field. It also finished second overall at −5.9 which tells you this wasn’t a one-trick performer. Strong short-putt performance paired with a competitive long-putt score of −8.5 makes it one of the more complete mallets in the test.

The one area to watch is medium putts. The BB 7.0 posted a −0.1 at medium range, below mid-field for that distance. If the makeable range from 15–25 feet is where you give strokes back, this may not be the right fit.

Alternative options for best mallet putters for short putts

  • Bettinardi BB 6.0
  • Sausage Golf Boudin Noir
  • Cleveland HB Soft 2 Black Retreve

Ben Hogan BHM03: Best mallet putter for medium putts

If your make rate from the makeable range is what holds you back, the Ben Hogan BHM03 is the standout. It posted the best Medium PuttView Handicap in the mallet test at −5.9. It also finished third overall at −5.7. Short putts came in at −5.2, putting it in the top eight of the field at that range as well.

The BHM03 retails for $249 which makes the performance-to-price ratio one of the more interesting stories in this test.

The tradeoff is long-putt performance. If you struggle with lag putting may want to consider the Scotty Cameron Phantom 9 instead.

Alternative options for best mallet putters for medium putts

  • Evnroll Origin 8
  • Edel Array F-1
  • Ben Hogan BHM02

Scotty Cameron Phantom 9: Best mallet putter for long putts

The Scotty Cameron Phantom 9 was the best mallet putter in the test for long putts and it wasn’t particularly close. If you’re trying to cut down on three-putts and get the ball closer from lag range, this is the putter the data points to.

It held up reasonably well on short putts too, posting a −4.3 that ranks above mid-field. The gap shows up at medium range where a score of 0.0 puts it near the bottom of the field.

Alternative options for best mallet putters for long putts

  • Bettinardi BB 6.0
  • Evnroll Origin 10
  • T Squared 1029

What most of us amateurs need out of our putters is to avoid 3 putts and the control of 2 distances, short and long. I have an Odyssey Ai one 7 that is fairly light compared to most mallet putters, but each of us wants better results, so do get a fitting, it is worth it if you do want to get a better game. 35 to 45 percent of your strokes are putts in normal round of golf.

Who goes golfing thinking “I going to have only medium putts today, so I’ll bring the Hogan”? Well, some pros pack two drivers, I guess I can bring three putters.

It seems like this is an odd stand-alone article when you’re only going to have one putter in the bag. Why not have this kind of break down included in the “Best Mallets of 2026” in a similar manner to how you guys write the driver testing?

Brittany, what is your job description? I have sent a half dozen questions waiting for responses over the last six months and not one response. You are the lead for golf equipment testing but never do a follow up or answer questions? I bet you don’t respond to this either .

I don’t understand “Best Mallet Putter for every distance”. I only carry 1 putter fir every distance. I have an old Zebra putter that has provided me with consistent putts for the speed of my putting stroke? Speed equals distance.
