Best of Golf

Some of the best products in golf may not even be on your radar. We’re here to change that.

We are shining the spotlight on some of the coolest products golf has to offer in our “Best of Golf” awards, the second annual index of the year’s notable golf products from around the globe. Each has been hand-picked by our expert staff to show you how diverse this game really is.

From the unknown to the unbelievable, we’re elated to introduce you to them all.

PAYNTR Golf Shoes

Unfamiliar? That should change right about now. PAYNTR has stormed onto the scene as one of the top golf shoe brands. Between the spikeless X 001 F and X 003 F, as well as the spiked X 004 RS Lux and X 006 RS golf shoes, PAYNTR Golf continues to show that the little guys can make waves in the golf shoe space.

KJUS Rainwear

Good rain gear is worth its weight in gold. KJUS is the king of the hill when it comes to rain gear. Between their Pro 3L, Dexter and Gemini lines of rain jackets and rain pants, the brand born on the ski slopes sure knows how to keep you dry. The Pro 3L is a perennial winner but everything KJUS does in the outerwear category is fantastic.

Kirkland Golf Gloves

What’s better than a hot chicken bake and a five-gallon jar of mayo? A pack of four golf gloves that costs less than a box of golf balls. The Kirkland Signature Golf Gloves are perennial value champions. They provide excellent performance at a value that’s hard to beat. Bust out that Costco Gold Card!

Primo Golf Joggers

Golf pants are boring. Forget the pleats and baggy pants of yesteryear. Golf is more fashionable than ever and it’s time to catch up with the trends. Primo’s golf joggers are stylish, form-fitting and wildly comfortable. There’s no time like the present to show off those ankles.

Goodr Sunglasses

Can you ever have too many sunglasses? Goodr makes non-slip, non-bounce polarized sunglasses that work great for the golf course. Did I mention the kicker? Oh yeah, they’re only $35 a pop. Goodr sunglasses provide top-notch value and quality that we’ve personally tried and tested. We’re particular fans of the Just Knock It On! pair.

Revo Sonic 2 Speaker Sunglasses

What’s better than music on the golf course? Sunglasses that play your music, of course! The Revo Sonic 2 speaker sunglasses give you the ability to listen to music without disturbing your playing partners. The unique design allows your ears to be completely open to outside noise and the volume is just quiet enough that someone sitting next to you won’t even know you’re rocking out to Taylor Swift.

Sun Mountain KUBE Golf Travel Bag

Still using a Glad trash bag as a golf travel cover? Does your pack-and-pray approach to airport travel end with more broken clubs than it does broken course records? The Sun Mountain KUBE is one of the most compact golf travel bags we’ve ever seen. Plus, it does a good job of keeping your clubs safe and secure from the “baggage claim bogeyman.”

Two Talents Butterfly Divot Tool

The quickest way into the heart of your course superintendent? Fix your pitch marks. Nothing makes fixing pitch marks and divots more sexy or exhilarating (yes, exhilarating) than the Butterfly Divot Tool from Two Talents. This CNC-milled divot tool is expertly crafted and puts your little tee peg to shame.

Bushnell Wingman View

Golf is more enjoyable with music. Despite what the cranky course local thinks about your “hoodlum” activities, music on the course should be welcomed. The Bushnell Wingman View acts as both a Bluetooth speaker and golf GPS. The new LCD screen allows you to view distances while you get down to some George Strait.

Melin Hats

You can never have too many hats. Melin hats are both antimicrobial and water-resistant, and they look darned good, too. The A-Game Hydro is the perfect hat for that hot, sweaty day on the range or a round in the rain.

Titleist TSR3 Metalwoods

Whether it is a driver, fairway wood or hybrid, Titleist’s TSR3 metalwood lineup is one of the most talked-about golf club families at MyGolfSpy. For some of our staff, TSR3 is a golf club that may never leave our golf bags. Why is the TSR3 metalwood lineup a “Best of Golf” recipient? It is simple: consistency in performance and high appeal, which is a winning combination.

Takomo Golf Irons

At MyGolfSpy, we have an affinity for direct-to-consumer golf manufacturers. We love an underdog that performs well in testing. Takomo Golf irons burst onto the scene in our 2023 Most Wanted Player’s Irons test where their 301 CB iron finished third overall. If you’re looking for incredible value, check out this Finnish-based DTC that is making waves in the golf industry and offers shipping worldwide.

Lagshot

We live in a time of infinite swing trainers. Most of them are destined to spend their days in a dusty corner of the garage or to make their way to Goodwill where their spell of hope, ending inevitably in despair, can be cast upon another gains-seeking golfer.

But wait! There’s hope.

Some training aides, like the Lagshot, actually work. If your golf swing has taken a leave of absence, a few sessions with the whippy, blue-shafted Lagshot will get your game back to work. If you can hit balls with the Lagshot, then you’ll have no problem hitting better shots with your clubs.

Odyssey Jailbird Putter

Who would have thought that the hottest putter on Tour in 2023 would be a putter from 2014? Not even Odyssey had a clue that their Versa Jailbird mallet would catch fire on the PGA TOUR this season. Good on ya, Rickie!

Thankfully, Odyssey has dusted off the old blueprints and squeezed some new Versa Jailbirds into their current production runs. Lefties are out of luck but if anyone else wants to rock a Jailbird, Odyssey is happy to build one for you.

L.A.B. Golf Putters

Though L.A.B Golf putters have been available for a few years, Tour and amateur usage has increased dramatically in 2023. Smooth-swinging Adam Scott is a L.A.B. loyalist and he is just one of a growing number of golfers on all professional tours playing or experimenting with a L.A.B. Golf putter.

While watching the LIV event last weekend, I learned two things. First, LIV golf can be compelling to watch. What an exciting Sunday finish for Taylor, Bryson and Brooks! Second, L.A.B. Golf putters were all over the place. Every other golfer seemed to be rolling a L.A.B. Golf Mezz.1. Maybe you should check out that one as well.

CaddyTalk CUBE Golf Rangefinder

Be there or be square? Nah. Get the CUBE or you’re a noob. The CaddyTalk CUBE is the most innovative golf rangefinder to date. We’re particularly fans of its triangulation technology which allows you to shoot the distance between two points from a different standing point. Pythagoras would be proud.

SuperStroke “The Turn” Putter Grip

Nothing is more magical (or timely) than a hot dog and candy bar at the turn. Keep your birdie train rolling with the SuperStroke “The Turn” Putter Grip. The tantalizing design may not help you roll in more putts but at least you’ll look good doing it!

Rapsodo MLM 2 Pro

The redesigned Rapsodo MLM 2 Pro is a welcome addition (or edition) to the personal launch monitor space. The new look is sleek and sexy, and the new support for both Android and IOS is a must-have. If you want to keep the cost down on a personal launch monitor without significant performance compromises, it’s hard to beat the MLM 2 Pro.

Fujiura Ventus/Axiom Golf Shafts

Rarely does a shaft gain in popularity the longer it’s been on the market. But like a pair of leather boots, it seems to get better with age. With the addition of three Ventus “TR” models, Fujikura rounded out the lineup to offer golfers distinct profiles that fit comfortably between the original Ventus Red, Ventus Blue and Ventus Black models.

Plenty of golfers have asked if Fujikura would ever come to market with a “Ventus” iron shaft. In 2023, the long-awaited Axiom iron shaft (also with VeloCore technology) surfaced, promising the same type of performance benefit the original Ventus Blue did in 2019. If the past is prologue, Axiom might be the shaft that dispels any myth that graphite iron shafts can’t keep up with the demands of high-speed players with a penchant for high-end gear.

Stitch Golf Shirts

Ultimately, what any golfer wants is a shirt that exudes quality with a fit and finish to match. Even better if it incorporates modern technology like UPF protection, four-way stretch and moisture-wicking/antimicrobial fabric while maintaining sufficient breathability.

The Stitch style leans toward vintage but with enough modern touches (e.g., contrast stitching) to stand out in a crowded pro shop. The signature underbuttons keep the collar fresh and crisp and the stock cut is generous enough for those of us with a more robust figure.

BOA Golf Shoes

Colorado-based BOA doesn’t make golf shoes but the BOA Fit System makes the best golf shoes even better. As an optional upgrade for many of the most popular golf shoes on the market, the BOA system allows you to ditch the strings and click your way to a hassle-free better fit.

Kirkland Signature Wedges

For those looking to keep it simple, it’s hard to make a strong argument against Kirkland’s Signature Wedges. The one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work for everyone but it’s hard to argue against the value. Compared to the market leaders, Kirkland wedges are quite literally three for the price of one.

Cutwater Transfusions

There’s no substitute for a freshly made Transfusion but it’s hard to beat the on the course convenience of our favorite canned golf course beverage. Tell us it’s grape soda. Tell us it’s full of sugar. We agree and we don’t care, it’s a deliciously effective way to find your way into the zone and stay there.

Maxfli Tour Balls

In our 2019 Ball Test, the reliable performance of Maxfli’s Tour series golf ball caught us by surprise but we loved what we saw. This year the lineup has grown to include three balls, cementing the DICK’S Sporting Goods house brand as a serious alternative for golfers looking for big-brand performance at a value price.

Theragun Pro

Now in its fifth generation, the latest Theragun Pro is the company’s quietest and most powerful. As fans of smart technology, we love the Bluetooth connectivity that provides total control of your recovery routine. With a growing number of attachments, Theragun Pro is the most complete percussive massage system on the market. (Pro Tip: A couple minutes on the calves and you’ll be walking on clouds.)

Bandon Dunes Resort

An obvious, if not on-the-nose, pick, Bandon Dunes is our favorite golf destination. For those who really want to get away from it all, Bandon’s remote-ish location and variety of terrain make it a can’t-miss destination for those who truly love golf. When I die, let it be at be at Bandon. Kick me into the gorse, it’s been a hell of a ride.

MacGregor MT86 Irons

Of the entire MyGolfSpy staff, only John Barba is old enough to have played MacGregor back when MacGregor truly was The Greatest Name in Golf. So when Simon Millington announced plans to resurrect the classic brand, Barba was also the only one really excited about it. That excitement, as it turns out, was warranted. With the new MacGregor MT-86 Pro and the more forgiving MT-86 OS, Millington and club designer Austie Rollinson have given us an iron set worthy of the legendary name. They’re hollow-bodied, foam-filled beauties that feel amazing and look incredible.

A stock set is a relative bargain at $799 and MacGregor has just added custom shaft and grip options as well as length and lie adjustments.

Sub 70 Golf

Fast, good and inexpensive. Conventional wisdom says you get to pick any two. But Sub 70 Golf and owner Jason Hiland have created a golf machine that bucks conventional wisdom and can give you all three. They’ll custom build you solid-performing, high-quality sticks in a hurry at a price that won’t make you sell a kidney. Throw in a 60-day no-questions-asked guaranty and a sweet demo program and you have a brand definitely worthy of your attention.

Red Rooster Glove Compartment

The Red Rooster Glove Compartment is one of those accessories that makes you smack yourself upside the head and ask, “Why the hell didn’t I think of that?” The Glove Compartment is just that, a hard-shelled compartment for your gloves. You can clip it to your bag or slide it into a side pocket and it keeps your gloves clean, uncrumpled and fresh.

And it’s reasonable at only $32.

RSVLTS/Breakfast Ball All Day Polo Golf Shirts

Golf is a game and games are supposed to be fun. And the Breakfast Ball All Day Polo golf shirt collection from RSVLTS is fun. Want a Flintstones- or Jetsons-themed golf shirt? How about Batman, Spiderman, Happy Gilmore, Miami Vice or Stars Wars? RSVLTS (as in Roosevelt, Teddy Roosevelt) has you covered. High quality, well-made and, well, fun. And we dare you – no, we triple-dog-dare you – to outfit your next charity scramble foursome in RSVLTS’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle collection.

Cowabunga, dude.

Dormie Workshop Headcovers

If you’re not a fan of the stock headcovers that come with your woods, you need to check out Dormie Workshop. We love all of their creative designs, high-quality leather and the ability to work directly with them to come up with something custom. We’ve got a staff member with a headcover is designed after a NES controller that perfectly represents his childhood, and it’s phenomenal.

Corkcicle Series A Sport Canteen

There’s no way you should leave home without a water bottle. Keep your drinks cool and your game cooler with the Corkcicle Series A Sport Canteen. This insulated bottle does incredibly well at keeping your drinks cold or hot, depending on what you need – not to mention it fits in the cart cup holder. If there’s one thing more frustrating than missing a birdie putt, its having your water bottle fall out of the cart or be left in the back basket to stew in the sun. Corkcicle’s Series A comes in 19 different colorways and works for any player, big or small.

Inside the Leather Golf Glove

Inside the Leather is flying under the radar from what we can tell, but they shouldn’t be much longer. They slid across our desk not too long ago and dare we say quality is creeping towards your big-name brands. Sure, the dusty rose is a favorite – but if you’re more of the classic, clean golfer, the Ghost White works just as well too.

Does anyone read the comments from the company or do the comments blown in the wind. I have not seen the first response or rebuttal from your company. If you believe in the products you are sponsoring. Explain why they are so expensive, again in one comment 85.00 dollars for a digital tool.

Hi Stan. We are not “sponsoring” anything. Our Best of Golf is a list of stuff we think is cool, fun, or that we just really like.

Yes, the divot tool is expensive, but we think it’s cool. The thing to keep in mind is that even if we put an $85 divot tool on our Best of Golf list today, you’re no more obligated to buy it than you were yesterday.

Some things are expensive. Many things are more expensive than any of us thing they should be, but ultimately whether or not you buy is still entirely your decision.

Tony, I do believe you’re not sponsoring anything, I think people sometimes want to believe that for their own sake.

However, I cannot imagine in my wildest dreams why anyone would even consider an $85 give it tool when they literally give them out free at many courses. Would love to understand the thought process in terms of what makes that the “best”. The most expensive is not always the best, and to put that in there is literally a waste of time as you go through the article. If you show me a diva tool that I stick in the ground and it somehow mechanically or electrically repaired the debit, even if it was expensive, now that would be interesting. But this is a piece of metal with two prongs. Yeah

You guys do all of this testing, but then list a bunch of things that have either never been tested, or do terribly in their categories. The Kirkland wedges literally finished 17th of 23 when you ran them in 2021, and why put that Jailbird putter on here when you guys have done a 2023 mallet test already? Same with the water bottle and glove. You test these, so why not include the winners instead of seemingly random products? That Superstroke putter grip is also a limited edition that’s completely sold out at your link the day this article went up, and is going for over $100 on eBay. For a site that’s known for data-driven recommendations, it seems a little disingenuous to have a “Best of Golf 2023” article with products that haven’t been put through the paces. I don’t know, maybe I’m just yelling at clouds…

I am curious about your feelings on the Ask Echo golf bags. I think they might be a pleasant surprise at mygolfspy.
And while the divot tool is neat looking, it’s very gimmicky and, at that price, not worth the money.

Best item: LAB putter, finally getting some air play
Worst item: A divot repair tool for $85. That’s insulting to be even in this article

Heresy. One man’s music is another man’s distraction. Is anything worse than standing over a putt I have to make, and hearing heavy metal blasting from the cart speaker at the next tee? Anyone who wants music on the course, fine. Just keep it to a point where nobody else can hear it.

The Kirklands are over rated. They feel ok at first, but they stretch too much, that whatever side you use ends up stretching until it’s almost 2 sizes bigger, and is pretty much useless after a round.
But I guess that’s where most gloves are, they are used like toilet paper and thrown away after 1 round, and sometimes less like on Tour where they swap out gloves whenever.
But as far as these glove prices go, especially like that one that costs $35, it’s laughable. If it costs that much it had better last 12 rounds minimum lmao

I know what you mean about them stretching. One reaches a point of stretching the fastener over the velcro incrementally, more and more, to try and somewhat maintain a fit. That said, they are very, very reasonable, so…..

MG golf gloves s. Been buying them for years. All leather, <$10 each w/ shipping. Weather has a lot of play for me in terms of durability. Spring and foil, loves less forever. You get those high heat & humidity days, that takes a toll on the gloves
