Following the April Major edition that kicked off Callaway’s 2024 limited-edition Major Series, the company is back with its May Major offering – the Chrome Tour Queen City edition. These special golf balls pay tribute to Charlotte, North Carolina – the “Queen City” and host of this month’s PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.
They also have hornets on them, because (also) Charlotte. Like the previous Major Series Chrome Tour, the area code of the host city (in this case, 704) replaces the standard player number, so that’s fun.
The May Major edition represents the second installment in Callaway’s strategy of creating limited edition golf balls that coincide with each of golf’s major championships. The balls feature distinctive Queen City-inspired designs while maintaining the same performance characteristics as non-limited edition Chrome Tour golf balls.
Callaway is fully embracing the limited-edition concept in 2025, with offerings across both their premium Chrome Tour line and their more accessible Supersoft models. This two-track approach allows them to cater to both performance-focused players and recreational golfers looking for something unique.
You’ll always need more golf balls, so why not make it interesting? So yeah, expect a whole lot of interesting from Callaway’s golf ball division this season.
Like the Masters-themed April major series golf ball, Callaway has again limited availability to Chrome Tour. Those looking for special versions of Chrome Tour X and Chrome Tour Triple Diamond models will have to wait, perhaps indefinitely. For now, Callaway is focusing on its best-selling models.
These Charlotte-inspired balls should appeal to collectors, tournament attendees, amateur entomologists, and anyone wanting a memento from this year’s second major championship.
