First Look – Krank Formula 6.5 Driver

Last week the USGA approved the Formula 6.5, Krank Golf’s first fully adjustable driver.

Like all Krank drivers the 6.5 features forged cup face technology. In fact, according to Krank, the 6.5 is the only 100% handmade, forged adjustable driver with Cup Face technology.

Unlike previous Krank drivers, the 6.5 offers up to 1° of loft/face angle adjustability (1/2° increments) from the hosel.

Long drive has entered the modern age. I suspect Krank fans are going to appreciate that.

The updated design allows Krank to continue with their heat treat process that allows it to achieve its desired face hardness specification, while introducing adjustability into its line for the very first time.

The weight for the new driver is 196 grams without the hosel adapter and 205 grams with it.

Krank has produced a short video that provides additional information.

The Krank Formula 6.5 will be available beginning late February or early March. Cost for the Formula 6.5 mirrors that of the Formula 6; $599 MSRP, $499 Retail.

This is now a “long ago” model for Krank. I would really love for someone like MGS to be able to test the new 7 vs. 7x ie conforming vs. non-conforming and identify did you get the results. I don’t care about comparing it to anything else. It will be interesting to see how many people are willing to grab the non-conforming driver. If you are not competing will your regular 4some care if you now have an advantage and start hitting it consistently 10 yards longer? Everyone always promises 10 yards does this deliver? Does it deliver that for 80mph? 90? 100? 105? These guys kind of have a little “snake oil” salesman feel at times, the direct to you, very controlled access, build on the rep of long-drive, only spokesman being a non-technical guy pitching but sometimes with a bit of science. Fit you over the web based on a kind of stock questionnaire (meaning you better be honest about length and have actually measured it on course or used a good launch monitor…which would mean they could just ask my launch conditions) but they are not in stores, they are not sending stuff off to all the web reviewers, I wonder if anyone even associated with a magazine or vlog let alone MGS were to order if they would sell to you? Come on Krank — the people want the truth.

I Play THE KRANK drivers ( Formula 5,6 and 7 now) since 3 years and I am very pleased with them : they deliver long and straight shots and are very consistent .I Play also THE KRANK Fairway woods ,and Hybrids 2 ,3 and 4 which are excellent also .It takes Some Time though to get use d to this novel équipment .
Communication with their staff from FRANCE not easy neither and delivery schedules erratic .

The adapter looks pretty much like a CMX aftermarket taylor made adapter? Are they interchangable? Krank is on the high end for what they’re asking for additional adapters.

Buddy asked me to try his Formula 6/6.5 and I hit three balls. At address color looks good and head looks small/shallow. Sounds good and face feels good. On the launch monitor I hit it straighter than my gamer and the same length. Face is tall. I like it.

Not trying to call bullshit here on the technology but Tour Edges $200 Hot Launch adjustable driver is a forged cup face….Krank come on now.

I believe Krank states 100% handmade, forged adjustable driver with Cup Face technology. While the TourEdge does not state Cupped Face….that right there is a big difference my friend

A bit too expensive for me, but the driver looks impressive. Be interesting to see how it compares in performance to the TaylorMade M1.

Yes, I have owned a Krank — three in fact. I thought they were very good drivers but I found them relatively expensive with a limited offering of shafts. At my slow swing speed their softest shafts resulted in a hard feel and limited distance gains and no directional help. Even with attempts at substituting a soft shaft didn’t improve the feel or performance much for me. Since I am an old guy and not a long driver, I would find a softer, quality shaft alternative at a lower overall price incentive to try their new drivers. But if their target audience never expands to include slower swinger I will probably not try another. I would note however than my primary and back-up driver now are 2009 Adams 9064 LD heads with soft shafts and 7.5* and 6.5* of loft. So I know an LD head can be a winner for a slow swinger!

Love to be able to try one of these. Hesitant to spend 5 to 6 hundred to experiment. Anyone know where you can demo one?

Damn that’s pricey, right up there with PXG. I’d like to see Krank and PXG participate in the Most Wanted Driver competition ( I know Krank has in the past), but hopefully with a donated driver otherwise MGS might go broke if they have to buy some of these

I’ve hit the formula 5, haven’t tested the 6 yet. The 5 was way too hard feeling even when i hit it on the screws. It doesn’t have a nice sound either in my opinion. Most other premium drivers have a great springy feel when hit, this one just kinda feels hard and dead.

Been hitting Krank ever since I got started in long driving in 2008. I have loved them the whole time. They have always treated me right. But, I believe they are getting over priced.

You can get the head for a bit cheaper as well to put your own shaft in if you don’t like the shaft offering. I love the fact that I can order the head only and install whatever shaft I want.
