Sam’s Club Launches Member’s Mark Golf Balls

The Costco killer?

I wouldn’t go that far. But Costco’s biggest competitor in the wholesale goods space has finally entered the golf ball market.

Maybe that’s exciting.

In 2023, Sam’s Club quietly launched a package of golf gloves under their house brand name, Member’s Mark. Now, the brand has sneakily launched a pair of golf balls that aims to rival the Kirkland Performance in both construction and price.

Notable is that Sam’s Club has two balls listed on the USGA conforming list. The one listed on the Sam’s website is the Pro Series 2. It’s a 3-piece ball with a 338-dimple cover.

While Bridgestone and Srixon have 338-dimple covers in their catalogs, the dimple count also matches those of the Costco Kirkland, PXG and Malbon balls. While it’s logical to think Sam’s may have turned to the SM Global factory to produce their golf balls, new info suggests that may not be the case. Some readers have also mentioned some resemblance to Callaway HEX dimples. That also seems an unlikely partnership.

Among non-OEM factory balls, it’s worth mentioning that Honma also has a 338-dimple ball.

Admittedly, it’s all speculative until we can get some samples in-house and track down more info.

For whatever it’s worth, the listing on the Sam’s site does say that “Through the optimization of CL (coefficient of lift) and CD (coefficient of drag), the Member’s Mark golf ball generates a powerful flight in windy conditions.”

It’s an interesting claim, though not radically different from anything else you’ll find on the back of a box. Regardless, at $15/dozen, it’s the kind of thing that golfers will happily overlook.

Regardless, further testing is warranted to understand better what less than $30 for two dozen balls gets you.

The Member’s Mark 3-Piece Golf Ball (Pro Series 2) will be sold in a pack of 24 for $27.98, and is available now to buy online at Sam’s Club.

Editor’s note: the original text was updated to include new information about which factory may be producing the Sam’s ball.

I work at a golf course and found one today and played it. I’m a 4-5 index with about a 100 mph driver swing speed. Shot 74 and the ball performed fantastic. Felt great did not notice any distance loss or lack of spin. Seems like a pretty good ball.

I played 9 holes with them over the past weekend and thought they performed well. Not overly spinny like Kirkland and compression seemed fairly high. For the money, I’d say they’re tough to beat. Urethane cover is nice, but the Member’s Mark logo isn’t my favorite.

Curious to see how testing is coming along on these Member Mark balls. When will MyGolfSpy be releasing some data on these? In the meantime, I ordered two dozen and have been playing them for several weeks. I have also given several out to players are that better than I. So far, we are all surprisingly impressed. No notable difference between these and Pro V’s. And I must admit, these balls hurt a LOT LESS when you hit the occasional one OB. :-)
But seriously, no loss of distance off the tee and no loss of spin around the greens. Even those that are scratch and 2-3-4 handicappers have not seen any performance issues.

So, what has everyone else’s experience been thus far? Would love to hear some feedback.

Not sure of on-course performance, but the cash-register performance for the new balls at Sam’s Club will be strong. They’re a retail giant that’s sure to turn-over inventory.

Judging by the current golf ball market, DTC and club retailers are certainly exerting price pressure on OEMs. Good for the golf ball consumer.

Maxfli Tour and Wilson Staff multi-dozen deals offer the best price/performance value.

My company purchased 3-dozen Wilson Staff packs with company’s logo for $100. And 4-dozen Maxfli Tour packs (no custom logo) for $115.

When I was a kid, the company my dad worked had logo ProV1’s

Those were the only items that they eventually put under lock and key. Too many of the staff were being a little too generous to themselves.

I’m not sure it’s a Costco/Kirkland killer, either. It takes a membership to get access to either SC or Costco (or BJs, another member warehouse).

I have a Costco membership. Why? Because it’s more convenient to my location. I don’t have a Sam’s Club membership, because the nearest one is 20+ miles away.

I’m looking forward to your testing (also, the new Kirkland ball has been released. Maybe a test for them, too?)

I’m the opposite, Sam’s is 10 minutes away, and I already go there almost every weekend on my way home from golf. The nearest Costco is almost an hour away. I am generally a fan of trying new DTC balls when the value seems reasonable enough (Vice & Snell have been in my bag regularly), and I will probably try these when I see them.

They may have two balls on the list because they may have to source from two different ball plants and want to make sure any difference is not noticed as balls will be different, not like Costco that gets White and Yellow balls from different ball plants in different Countries., For sure these balls will play better than any $20 a dozen, or more, two piece balls with a major OEM’s name on them.

I can’t believe how the internet, yt especially, has totally ignored the 2025 costco ball.
Used to be yt-ers were next day international shipping costco gear to be among the first to get a video out.

Now it’s crickets. I’ve wonder if OEMs have, um, “discouraged ” content creators from reviewing balls that undercut the $55/dz stuff..

I did a double take when the V3.0 came out. So far, fairly well reviewed on their website. Lower spin off the driver. One tester put it on a sim and got really good results compared to a big name balls (TaylorMade TP5 and the ProV1).

Just ordered mine, says delivery on Feb 23rd! I’m anxious to see how they do – even if terrible, still good for balls on the sim.

Even if you don’t ever see yourself playing these balls (or the Kirklands), these are still good for you. Why? They are digging into the ball business of the major brands which is forcing them to get more aggressive with pricing. Right now, the TP5s are buy 3, get one free. Wilson is buy 2, get one free. Callaway has those 4 dozen boxes for a little more than the price of 3 dozen and Titleist will do their “buy 3, get 1 free” again this year.
Thank you Sam’s Club and thank you Costco!

Agreed 100%. And people buy the Kirklands by the truckload. Every dollar spent at Costco (and now Sam’s) is a dollar not spent with the big OEM’s.

I can’t stand that giant M logo, so I’d never play that ball, no matter how good it is. Much like Bridgestone balls and their B logo. It’s a silly reason to not play a ball, but I’m sticking with it.

I will do what I always do with new balls – Wait until I find one in playable condition and then try it out. Unless they are on sale at Walmart as well that may take a while since there aren’t any Sams Clubs around here. I like the 338 dimples though. Bridgestones always play well for me.

For some reason I always seem to think that Members Mark is a cheaper looking brand than Kirkland Signature, it always feels kind of old school Kmart cheesy to me.

Oddly, that’s part of the charm for me.

I also grew up going to KMart a few times a week. I have some good memories of shopping there. Ours also had a Little Ceaser’s pizza, but I don’t think we ever got it.

It costs quite a bit to live in my community and belong to my club. Whenever I see Kirkland ( and I guess Makers Mark) I (will) wonder why? That said, I admit I do not play $50+ per dozen golf balls. I split the difference.

This will be interesting. Will they make a splash like Costco did with their Kirkland brand balls? Will they introduce themselves as the copy of the failed Callaway ball with all the garbage inside? Like virtually all the commenters, I will wait for My Golf Spy to do their testing and post their review.
