Five Strange Things I Saw At LIV Nashville

Last week, I attended my first LIV event.

While the overall experience exceeded my expectations, there were a few parts of the day that made me do a double-take. Strange doesn’t necessarily mean bad—these are just some things that caught my attention.

Here are five odd and interesting things I saw at LIV Nashville.

1. A “Game Of Thrones” Golf Chair

LIV Golf Nashville

In the center of the fan village, I found a “Game Of Thrones” golf chair where a volunteer was taking photos of fans sitting in the throne.

The chair, made out of golf clubs, features the logo of all 13 LIV teams.

Was it comfortable? No. Was it extremely warm on a 92-degree day? Yes.

Is it cool or cringey? Social media comments seem split, so let me know what you think.

2. Sweet Tea Dunk Tank

LIV Golf Nashville

I was not expecting to find a sweet tea dunk tank at a golf tournament.

This station, located at the fan village, had fans throw a football toward a target that would send a (hopefully) willing participant into a red Solo cup full of sweet tea.

“Step right up for the sweetest splash of the summer,” the entrance sign reads. “An accurate throw of the football sends a lucky soul into the South’s unofficial party flag – the humble red Solo cup.”

I waited around for someone to try this but nobody came. Shocking.

3. A Giant Mini-Golf Guitar

LIV Golf Nashville

Nashville is known as the Music City so, of course, there was a giant guitar on property.

This one was in the form of a miniature golf hole as the LIV players took aim at a hole some 40 feet away. You could find it just left of the 14th tee.

I’m impressed they made this insanely large guitar for one week. The turf, which is colored to look like a guitar, even says LIV Nashville on it.

I would have put this in the fan village. There would have been a much longer line for it.

Overall, it’s a cool idea. Strange, but cool.

4. LIV Golf Hats Were Everywhere

LIV Golf Nashville

My biggest surprise of the day was how well merchandise sold.

While Crushers hats were the top item, I was stunned at the number of generic LIV hats people bought.

It’s hard to think of another sport where fans want to buy the league logo. You don’t see anyone walking around in a PGA Tour hat, a MLB hat or a NFL hat (except Rob Lowe).

Apparently, some fans really want to represent LIV as a league.

Someone next to me in the merchandise tent bought $160 worth of items. I was skeptical of seeing something like that but it happened.

5. Live Music During Play

LIV Golf Nashville

You’ve heard of concerts happening after play finishes at a golf tournament. LIV Nashville had those type of concerts after Rounds One and Two.

But what about live music within shouting distance of actual competition?

Right next to the 14th green, there was a small stage for Nashville acts to perform. Spectators gathered in the area which was surrounded by food trucks and a screen to watch the golf.

This is a great idea for exhibition golf like this. It’s a casual environment where the emphasis is not strictly on the golf. Giving fans the opportunity to listen to music, eat local food and watch golf at the same time is something I haven’t seen at a Tour event.

Like I mentioned in my review of the day, this type of golf experience isn’t something that particularly interests me—but there is definitely a market for it.

If you’ve been to a LIV event, what are some parts you enjoyed or didn’t? What is important to you when attending a golf tournament? Let me know below in the comments.

As an avid golf fan, this was my first pro golf event and I enjoyed it. I did buy a visor as my souvenir and one canned cocktail with a bottle of water for refills at the cooling stations. I opted for the 14th green after checking out the party hole and to say hi to my friends who were staying there. Too much for me. Less crowded at the 14th and I could find shade. I will definitely attend another LIV because I’ll be better prepared now that I’ve got the experience of the first one. My takeaways were:
Arrive at least two hours before tee off so you can experience the space, see the golfers, get merchandise, and get your spot (if you choose to stay at a hole).
Be prepared to spend money if you choose to buy anything. At least the merchandise are at set dollar points depending on the item.
Bring a chair with coverage or something to keep the sun off because if you stay in the shade you lose visibility due to people moving in front of you.
Be okay with not getting anything from the players but put yourself as close as you can for the possibility.
And look around because you never know who you might see. Greg Norman was right next to me. THE SHARK!
Take your time, enjoy the environment, and just have fun.

I went all three days and enjoyed the event. Agree lines were long on Friday but improved Sat and Sun. I call it growing pains being it’s there first time in Nashville. I do not think they expected the turnout they got. Which is good for the LIV organization. They had over 40,000 fans attend. I liked the shotgun format and the golf was really good. I will definitely attend next year. The facilities were really nice.

I went to the Nashville event on day 1, Friday. It was my first LIV event and I was pretty excited. They had music playing and a hype man. It seemed like a fun day was to come. Players hit the tee boxes about 1215, and the music pretty much went away, except for a few select holes near the end. They play pretty quickly so it’s not 12 hours on the grounds in the sun. More like 4.5 hours. There was roughly 15-20 minutes between groups so you really don’t get to watch a lot of golf. For me that was very disappointing. There was not enough food vendors/concessions or water stations. Being such a hot day that should have been planned for; there should have been a water station at pretty much every hole. It was brutally hot so when you did get a cool drink it was gone in minutes. I saw several people (from kids to adults) suffer from a heat related emergency. If you wanted to eat, most lines were 1-1.5 hours long, so, basically about 1/4 of your time was spent standing in line. I’ve been to numerous PGA events and never had a bad experience. LIV fell short, way short, and I doubt I’ll go to another LIV event. Very disappointing.

I have been to two Masters, countless PGAT events and now two LIV events. The first LIV event was in Greenbrier last year and in Nashville this year. Each tournament has it’s own feel that everyone likes. The “traditional” tournaments are the norm it seems. However, LIV makes the events very fan friendly and laid back unlike some of the more traditional golf events. If you thinking this will be like any other PGAT event you will be disappointed. This is a different golf venue and some will like it and some will not. To be honest I like the LIV events and will go to more in the future. I will also go to more PGAT events and Masters if I’m luck enough. I think people have drawn the line but to me golf is golf regardless.

I have nothing against LIV golf. But I’m just not a fan of the music. But then, give me $100 million and I’ll not only play music, I’ll sing also

You should’ve seen all the junk they used to have at the Riv when Nissan used to be the sponsor! It was so much fun! All the fun zones, games, food galore, cars on display, them girl caddies in mini skirts, demo cars on display, it was a great event. Then they got rid of it all, went to the Northern Trust which was short lived as they and nothing to give or contribute. Now it’s the Genesis hosted by the biggest home wrecking adulterer in Eldrick Tont, and it’s just as bland and boring, a total disaster as he blocked local SoCal kids from being able to qualify into it since it’s no longer Open, Eldrick literally stuck his middle finger to all the people with whom he grew up in the local area because he knows that they know who he slept with so he’s blocked them all from being able to attend.
Literally the PGA TOUR is the adulterer and home wreck enabler organisation of the world, look at Jim Nonce, he leads by example
