Forum Member Review: Terra Forza Shafts

Terra Forza golf shafts are designed with a unique approach that focuses on matching your swing characteristics, using your unique ground pressure data, to fit you for one of their shafts. This ensures each shaft is tailored to the golfer’s specific load/unload pattern. By doing this, Terra Forza believes you can maximize distance while optimizing dispersion.

There is no flex or weight designation: Their shafts are categorized by color rather than traditional flex or weight designations, focusing on the golfer’s movement to

achieve maximum playability. Here is a list of available Terra Forza shafts:

  • Red: Most stable, ideal for fast and aggressive transitions.
  • Yellow: Strong movements but less aggressive than red.
  • White: For players with strong rotational movements.
  • Blue: For golfers with a strong transition paired with strong rotational movement.
  • Orange: For players with a stronger transition than green.
  • Green: Lightest and smoothest, for the easiest transitions.

There is something for every unique swing within the Terra Forza lineup and golfers everywhere could benefit from learning a little about their swing in the process of being fitted.

Read on to see what our testers thought about the fitting and performance of Terra Forza shafts.

Key highlights:

  • The Fitting: Testers were intrigued by the fitting process which utilized pressure plates and an iPad app to record your swing and analyze it from the way you generate force. It surprised the testers that it took so few swings to lock in on the ideal profile and then test for preferences against that.
  • The Looks: Classic, clean and simple but well done. Our testers found nothing wrong with the looks of the shaft but at least one wished Terra Forza would try to find a way to stand out in the crowd a little more.
  • The Feel: Our testers were fitted into several different color shafts for Terra Forza, which had a range of different feels, but all testers were impressed with the lineup and had positive thoughts on the feel of the Terra Forza offerings.
  • The Numbers: Testers saw some great improvements in speed and consistency with the Terra Forza shafts. Some saw significant gains in fairways hit. One tester achieved a ball speed they had never recorded before.

The fitting:

Testers were fitted for their Terra Forza shaft with the pressure plates and fitting app. It is not a traditional shaft fitting and some testers required very few swings to narrow down which Terra Forza shaft should be the starting point for the fitting. Testers may then go up or down a profile depending on feel.

ChiefMikeOfficer found the fitting to be “super cool.” He noted; “I was skeptical (still am a little), but given what I saw about each shaft on their site and what I know from past fittings, it landed me pretty close to what I would’ve expected.”

MrBandit had this to say about his fitting; “During the initial Fitting there was a definite increase in ball speed, carry and total yards from my current shaft to the TF White.”

Aesthetic appeal:

Terra Forza uses a clean and classic gloss black finish for the majority of their shafts, with a crisply printed “Terra Forza” and “TF” logo in the color of that particular shaft, and a bit of carbon fiber showing through towards the handle. Overall, our testers found it to be done really well and no one was put off by the design.

ChiefMikeOfficer said thatIt’s a good looking shaft – the carbon fiber + yellow color scheme is sharp, but not overly flashy.”

GolfSpy_BOS added “the Terra Forza is minimalistic and clean in its branding. The glossy black finish will pair well with most drivers, including my Epic Max LS with my black Lamkin Sonar+ grip. Black on black seems like it will never go out of style.”

While Tdc1 said he “absolutely loves the simplicity and clean lines of the shaft. There is nothing distracting or flashy about the graphics nor is the shaft cluttered with information about weight, flex, kick-point, etc. Minimalism when looking down at the ball that really suits my eye.”

Feel, dispersion and figures:

Each tester reported enjoying the feel of the shafts while seeing some significant improvements in speed and consistency in their drivers.

ChiefMikeOfficer notedI hit some incredible tee shots with this shaft, in some cases ending up in places I’ve never been. In terms of consistency/accuracy, it was on par with my past shafts/fittings – maybe even better. Confidence on the tee was high.”

MrBandit said: “I was expecting it to be stiffer because of the weight, but it had a very sturdy feel. Comfortable to swing and you feel like you can be very aggressive.”

GolfSpy_BOS: “Whether on purpose or not, the Terra Forza White shaft feels to me like a traditional “white” profile with a touch firmer handle. I have no way of checking but it feels a touch lighter swing weight in my hands versus my gamer.”

What they liked:

ChiefMikeOfficer: “The fitting process seems like a high point – again, I was skeptical, but they kinda made me a believer. I’ve been fitted by 4-5 places in the past, and none have come close to the performance of this one, which was just 5-10 swings measuring foot pressure + other things.”

GolfSpy_BOS: “For the first time in my life, I hit 160 mph ball speed with the Terra Forza White shaft! It wasn’t a fluke either, because I did it multiple times on the Rapsodo MLM2PRO.”

What they didn’t like:

There wasn’t a lot to complain about from the testers’ perspective. Naturally, you need to be close to a place that offers a Terra Forza fitting, which is a downside. But since the start of this member review, Terra Forza has announced more fitting locations as they look to build out their network.

GolfSpy_BOS also wishes the shaft stood out a little more. While he noted that the shaft was very well finished with crisp and clean printing, it’s so classic and simple that a casual observer likely wouldn’t notice that shaft in another player’s bag.

Conclusion:

All of our testers decided to keep the Terra Forza shaft in play at the end of the testing session based on the performance gains they found over their previous gamers.

ChiefMikeOfficer: “The fitting was great. The shaft seems solid, better than my prior gamers. There were high and low points, but overall I’m feeling very good about where we landed with this.”

Mr. Bandit: “The numbers do not lie and the confidence it has provided me to hit the driver on every hole instead of using a 5-wood is huge. Asking price could be steep, hoping it comes down, but if you are in the market for a new shaft, I would add this one to the list of strong candidates.”

GolfSpy_BOS: “The Terra Forza White shaft is a strong performer in the premium shaft marketplace. I hit some personal best ball and swing speeds with the Terra Forza White in the bag and had some exceptionally strong driving days.”

Tdc1: “The TF Green is staying in my driver for the foreseeable future. Everything about it has made me more confident and more effective off the tee.”

FAQ

What kind of measurements does the Terra Forza app capture with the force plates?

The force plates measure your use of the ground vertically and laterally during your swing. It also captures the timing of these forces and when they peak compared to impact. Below is a listing of all the metrics Terra Forza captures during your swing:

How do my ground reaction forces result in a shaft recommendation?

The force plates measure your use of the ground vertically and laterally during your swing. It also captures the timing of these forces and when they peak compared to impact. This trend of data points and customization to the golfer is intriguing. There might be something to this “the more you know”.

Totally different kind of fitting vs my previous fittings. But still kind of intuitive for my engineering mind. Seems to attempt to achieve max velocity at impact. Price wasn’t mentioned, but fear HIGH!

Wow that seems very different than the results of the testers here… Curious, were you fit using the app? What were you fit to? What shaft did you use before?

I should not have posted the negative review above because I discovered a flaw in my swing. Once I corrected my swing flaw the Terra Nova shaft performed beyond my expectations. I should have never blamed my poor performance on a golf shaft. I highly recommend the Terra Nova shaft for improved play.
