Introduction: Who is TPT?

TPT (Thin Ply Technology) is a Swiss-based brand renowned for its innovative approach to golf shaft design. TPT utilizes cutting-edge materials and automated manufacturing processes to create ultra-precise and consistent golf shafts.

Key Highlights

  • Enhanced stability: Testers experienced significantly improved stability in their putting strokes, leading to more consistent rolls and reduced mishits.
  • Improved feedback: The TPT putter shaft provided clear and precise feedback, allowing testers to better understand their stroke mechanics.
  • Innovative technology: TPT’s advanced materials and design improved overall performance, offering a unique edge compared to traditional putter shafts.
  • Exclusive for LAB Putters: Seamlessly integrated with L.A.B. putters, enhancing the performance of these already innovative clubs.

First impressions and design

The TPT putter shafts made a strong first impression with their sleek, professional design and high-quality materials.

ChiefMikeOfficer appreciated the shaft’s understated yet modern look which paired well with the futuristic design of L.A.B. putters.

“The shaft doesn’t scream for attention, but its performance does. The finish is clean, and it looks like it belongs on a high-end putter.”

MissionMan echoed these sentiments, noting that the premium build quality and finish set it apart from standard putter shafts.

“It’s clear that TPT didn’t cut any corners in the design. The shaft feels premium in every way, from the materials to the final touches.”

Does a putter shaft really make a difference?

One of the most common questions surrounding a high-performance shaft like the TPT is whether it can actually elevate putting performance. Testers emphatically agreed it does.

cburins highlighted how the shaft improved the stability of his putts, allowing for greater confidence and precision.

“I didn’t realize how much a putter shaft could influence my stroke until I tried the TPT. The stability it adds is a game-changer.”

Patrick Dawes noted that the TPT shaft improved his distance control, making longer putts significantly easier to manage.

“The consistency it brings to lag putting is unreal. It takes your putter to another level entirely.”

Testers also found the TPT shaft amplified the inherent strengths of L.A.B. putters, particularly their alignment and forgiveness features, creating a synergistic effect.

Stability and consistency

Stability was one of the most celebrated aspects of the TPT putter shaft. Testers repeatedly emphasized how the shaft’s design reduced twisting and torque during the stroke, ensuring a square putter face at impact and resulting in consistent, reliable rolls.

ChiefMikeOfficer observed a noticeable improvement in his putting stability, especially on longer putts.

“The stability this shaft offers is second to none. Even on mishits, the face stays square, and the roll is pure.”

MissionMan praised the consistent results he achieved, noting how the shaft eliminated variability in his stroke.

“With the TPT, I know exactly what’s going to happen on every putt. It’s incredibly consistent.”

These benefits were particularly noticeable in pressure situations where the enhanced stability helped testers maintain confidence in their strokes.

Feedback and feel

The TPT putter shaft struck a perfect balance between transmitting feedback and dampening harsh vibrations. Testers appreciated how the shaft allowed them to feel where the ball was struck on the face, providing valuable insights without being jarring.

cburins found the feedback instrumental in improving his putting mechanics.

“The feedback is spot-on. I know immediately if I’ve hit the ball off-center, which helps me adjust and improve.”

Patrick Dawes noted that the precise feel of the shaft improved his touch and distance control.

“The feedback has been fantastic for my lag putting. I have a much better sense of how hard to hit the ball, even on longer putts.”

The enhanced feedback also helped testers build trust in their stroke, knowing that the shaft would deliver consistent results.

Performance on the green

The TPT shaft’s benefits translated directly to improved performance on the green. Testers reported gains in accuracy, distance control and overall confidence with some describing it as a “transformative experience.”

ChiefMikeOfficer credited the shaft with helping him sink more putts by keeping the face stable through impact.

“It’s a confidence booster. Once I’m lined up, I know the shaft is going to do its job and keep the ball rolling true.”

MissionMan highlighted the difference the shaft made in his lag putting, allowing him to consistently leave long putts closer to the hole.

“It’s made a huge difference in my lag putting. I’m not three-putting nearly as often because the distance control is so much better.”

cburins described the combination of the TPT shaft and LAB putters as a perfect match, amplifying the strengths of both.

“Using the TPT shaft with a LAB putter is like unlocking another level of putting performance. They complement each other perfectly.”

Durability and build quality

The TPT shaft impressed testers with its durability, maintaining its performance and aesthetics even after extensive use. The high-quality materials ensured the shaft could withstand regular play without showing signs of wear.

Patrick Dawes praised the robust construction, noting it held up well during multiple rounds and practice sessions.

“This shaft is built to last. I’ve used it heavily, and it still looks and performs like it’s brand new.”

The durable design gave testers confidence that the TPT shaft would remain a reliable part of their bag for years to come.

Key data points

  • Improved accuracy: Testers noted a reduction in putts left short or offline due to the shaft’s stability.
  • Reduced cishits: The enhanced stability minimized the impact of off-center strikes.
  • Better distance control: Feedback and consistent roll allowed testers to dial in lag putting with greater precision.

What they liked

  • Stability: Testers praised the shaft’s ability to keep the putter face square through impact, improving accuracy and consistency.
  • Feedback: The balanced feel helped testers fine-tune their strokes and improve distance control.
  • Enhanced performance: When paired with L.A.B. putters, the TPT shaft amplified their unique features, creating a synergistic improvement in putting.
  • Durability: High-quality construction ensured the shaft maintained its performance over time.

What they didn’t like

  • Price point: Testers acknowledged that the premium price may be a barrier for some golfers.
  • Learning curve: A few testers noted that adapting to the increased feedback required some time and effort.

Conclusion: A transformative upgrade for serious golfers

The TPT putter shaft delivered exceptional results, providing stability, feedback and performance that exceeded testers’ expectations. By minimizing torque and improving consistency, the shaft helped golfers refine their strokes and gain confidence on the green. Paired with L.A.B. putters, the TPT shaft created a powerful combination.

While the price and learning curve may deter some, the overall quality and performance make it a worthy investment for golfers serious about improving their game. Whether you’re looking to sink more putts or reduce variability in your stroke, the TPT shaft proves a putter shaft can indeed make a significant difference.

Excellent overview and review. I thoroughly enjoyed following the testing of the TPT shaft in the L.A.B. Putters. All the testers did an amazing job. Having one myself , the TPT shaft is the hidden star in my L.A.B. DF3. Exceptional feedback and performance.

      Hello @JJimbo!

Thanks for posting the link and the note. We will make sure to make it more prominent moving forward. That said, all the names of the testers (Gold font) are links to the review page! We do this in all the recap articles, but again we will make it a bit more clear moving forward.

Have watched recent videos of the YouTube golfers Wesley and his older brother, George IV..they seem to have improved their putting..
So probably the putter could be doing a good job

“This shaft is built to last. I’ve used it heavily, and it still looks and performs like it’s brand new.”

Could there be a more idiotic quote about a putter shaft? The cheapest steel putter shafts can be used heavily for 30 years & still “look & perform like brand new”

Are you using off the teebox or what?

We get lots of people who are concerned about paint wear and the durability. Whether that is due to aesthetics or they feel that wear will have some sort or performance loss or effect the way it plays. May seem like a silly quote, but given the minimal paint that TPT uses on its shafts it is relevant.

Shared with a big smile, you guys are the best.
One of the great things about MGS over the years is that you cancel the subjective and quantify the objective.
Possibly this article is a bit too subjective for MGS.
What does the data set show about this shaft?
      VS other shafts?
In a handful of different putters?
How does the data extrapolate to reduced putts over 10-20-30 rounds?
      then I am in….

The data is all in the thread from the testers. All did multiple Sam Lab sessions to get launch monitor data to compare. For each tester the data is a bit different. Best to view the thread for the full spectrum.

As for different shafts, these were compared to Accra, BGT and the stock steel shaft from L.A.B. and others.

Different putters were the DF3, MEZZ MAX and LINK.1 I do believe. Don’t think we had any DF2.1 or MEZZ users.

As for over the number of rounds, again best to check the thread. Most of the testers are still providing continued updates and insights. The final reviews are in, but the testing continues!

Hi Mr Danbrook / @Golfspy_APH: thanks for the article. You suggest going to the Forum Thread for the test results … Either the Forum Thread isn’t in the Article (or not made visible/ prominent enough!)

… i searched the entire article, looking for the Forum Link (and even did a word-search for “Forum”).

… eventually i went into the Forum to find it myself. Here’s the Link, to save others a search: https://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/66812-tpt-putter-shafts-for-lab-putters-2024-forum-review/

This is an interesting one. There are stats in the posts. I was one of the testers and we were required to do Sam PuttLab tests as part of the process.
I’m going to say I was one of the people who didn’t “get” TPT when I started. I thought it was about an expensive upgrade for accuracy and I was wrong. The accuracy difference between the two (Accra) is marginal. For me, the statistical difference was one extra putt from 30 feet out of about 30 if I remember correctly. Not a big difference when you think about it.
BUT, and this is a big BUT, what the stats can’t really show is the the first putt percentage and your adaptability on the course. Adaptability and feel with the shaft is amazing.
My handicap dropped from 8.4 to 6 over the space of 8-10 weeks, and my driving and irons weren’t better. In Australia, handicaps are only calculated on competition scores. That wouldn’t be that big a deal except for the fact that our course has been cored multiple times during the testing period due to a thatch layer issue, and my playing partner who is (or was before I upgraded to the TPT) a much better putter than me has battled with the constant changes while my adaptability across varying conditions has gone through the roof. Put simply, I’ve never had the degree of confidence that I have with my putting and I’m currently sitting in second spot in our club putting comp after the second round. I used to leave a lot of putts short because I lacked the confidence, where now I don’t. I’m having 25 and 26 putt rounds for the first time.
Since I did the test, I’ve gone out and purchased a TPT Nitro Driver Shaft and a TPT fairway shaft, and they aren’t cheap. If I purchase the Oz (when they release an armlock model), it’ll also have a TPT in it.
I know I seem like an evangelist for TPT right now, but the results were that convincing to me.
