About Takomo

Takomo is a Finland-based DTC brand making waves with social media. They have established a strong presence in the golf community through direct-to-consumer sales, offering premium products at competitive prices. Takomo has put a strong emphasis on innovation and customer satisfaction.

The testing opportunity

The Takomo fairway wood testing opportunity was a highly anticipated opportunity as the prior-year iron lineup had been tested and reviewed favorably. So their newly launched fairways had high expectations to live up to. Four Forum members were selected to evaluate the performance of Takomo’s fairway woods. This diverse group of testers provided a well-rounded review, offering insights based on their unique experiences and playing styles.

Aesthetic and initial impressions

The testers were immediately struck by the visual appeal of the Takomo Long Game clubs. The sleek design and quality craftsmanship were highlighted, contributing to a professional and premium look.

Jim Shaw noted, “These clubs just look and feel premium, right out of the box.”

ToastedSoul echoed this sentiment, appreciating the clubs’ solid build quality and attractive appearance.

Performance on the course

Distance and accuracy

The Takomo clubs excelled in providing significant improvements in distance and accuracy over their current gamers. Testers praised the ease of launch and control over shot shape, particularly with the 3-wood and 7-wood.

Jim Shaw remarked, “The utility iron was easy to launch in the air and provided smooth turf interaction.”

THE GOLF GUY added, “I think a 3 wood will be able to replace that type of shot so I can have a normal swing and also have a more forgiving club for long shots into par five’s.”

Feel and sound

The feel and sound of the clubs were also praised. Testers appreciated the solid, reassuring feedback, contrasting it with the hollow sound of some other clubs.

ToastedSoul shared, “I hear a lower tone ‘crushing’ sound when I hit the ball… it doesn’t sound or feel like a cheap club and I like that a lot.”

Shafts and their impact

The testers also paid close attention to the shafts in the Takomo fairway woods, noting how they complemented the clubheads. The shafts were praised for their stability and responsiveness, contributing to the overall performance of the clubs. The stock options offered are the Project X Hzrdus Red and Black were able to fit the swings of all our testers.

Big Deal Walsh noted, “The shafts provided a great balance of flexibility and stiffness, which helped in achieving consistent shots”.

THE GOLF GUY also appreciated the shafts, saying, “The stability of the shafts during swings gave me a lot of confidence, especially in high-pressure situations”.

Data and analytics

Testers used various tools to gather data on their performance with the Takomo clubs. The ShotScope V5 and Trackman sessions were particularly helpful in quantifying the improvements. During these sessions and rounds, the testers compared them to their current clubs to receive feedback not only for comparison but also how the fairway woods were able to perform with the different loft and weight settings.

THE GOLF GUY emphasized the importance of adjustability, stating, “This adjustability gives a golfer the chance to tailor the club to their own game”.

ToastedSoul found the adjustable loft sleeves and weights to be a significant advantage, making the clubs versatile and user-friendly, especially as a newer golfer looking to gain consistency with these clubs.

Likes and dislikes

What testers liked

  1. Adjustability: The ability to tweak the clubs to fit personal preferences was a major plus.
  2. Build quality: The clubs’ construction was consistently praised, giving the impression of a high-quality product.
  3. Performance: Improvements in distance and accuracy were noted, making these clubs a valuable addition to any golfer’s bag.

What testers disliked

While the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, there was a single minor issue mentioned.

Jim Shaw noted a slight delay in the delivery of his clubs, which affected his initial experience. However, this was quickly resolved and the overall experience remained positive.

Durability and long-term use

Testers reported that, at the end of testing, the clubs showed minimal wear. Overall, the testers felt that these Takomo fairway woods showed less wear compared to what their prior models had with the same amount of play and equal conditions.

As Big Deal Walsh stated, “These clubs are built to last and have shown great durability throughout my testing”.

Final verdict

The final consensus among the testers was that the Takomo fairway woods are an excellent investment for golfers of all levels. Their combination of aesthetic appeal, performance enhancements and customizability makes them stand out in the crowded golf equipment market.

ToastedSoul summed it up well: “These woods are very user-friendly and are really fun to hit. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend these clubs for every golfer”.

In conclusion, the Takomo fairway woods have proven to be a reliable and high-performing addition to the testers’ golf bags, earning their place through a long-term testing period with ample positive feedback. Whether you’re looking to improve your distance, accuracy or overall confidence on the course, these clubs are worth considering.

I started with the 101s and absolutely loved how Takomo put alot of the focus on functionality in the golfer’s persective and needs. I couldnt order the fairway woods as they were backordered then, but it was an easy decision and boost of confidence to seek them out as my trust in the brand and its R&D had developed by then. ultimately purchased the 5 and 7 wood used online, and have truly enjoyed them. Had to retire my big brand 3 wood as the 5 was delivering on my needs more than enough.
