How Good Is Steph Curry At Golf?

With Curry Brand entering a new chapter with Li-Ning, it seems like the perfect time to take a deeper dive into the brand’s future, what we know so far and Steph Curry’s golf game.

Most people know Steph as the best shooter in NBA history but you might be shocked to learn just how gifted he is on the golf course. Without giving away too many spoilers, I can tell you he’s likely much better than you think.

Hint: He’s played on the Korn Ferry Tour.

As we patiently await the first official Curry Brand golf shoe of the post-Under Armour era, let me tell y’all a little more about Steph’s history on the golf course and what to expect from the new partnership between Curry Brand and Li-Ning.

Curry Brand + Li-Ning

Li-Ning is a $4-billion company with a portfolio featuring a mix of running, basketball, badminton and table tennis.

Steph, Jimmy Butler and Dwyane Wade are the most prominent basketball athletes aligned with Li-Ning with Steph being the first to unveil a golf shoe within the Li-Ning ecosystem.

We don’t know much about the first Curry Brand golf shoe but my initial thoughts led me straight to the adidas MC87 and it will definitely be a talking point if the shoe becomes available to the public. The design itself leans more European and it’s sure to ruffle some feathers among Steph fans.

Although a release date for this specific shoe has yet to be announced, we know Curry Brand and Li-Ning have golf in their plans moving forward.

When you think of professional athletes who also play golf, a few names probably come to mind, such as:

• Tony Romo
• Charles Barkley
• Michael Jordan
• Michael Phelps

This might be a bold take but Steph would wipe the floor with any of them. Romo technically has a lower handicap but with Steph still suiting up season after season in the NBA, he’s got the competitive edge on Romo in an 18-hole match. Both golfers are plus-handicaps with Romo floating in the plus-1 to plus-3 range and Steph sitting right around scratch to plus-1.

In 2017, Steph played in a Korn Ferry Tour event, firing back-to-back rounds of 74 and “narrowly” missing the cut by … 11 strokes. To put things into perspective, the winner of the tournament finished 18-under across four days of competition. If you think your favorite athlete in one sport can compete with the best of the best in another, they can’t.

As we look forward to the first Curry Brand x Li-Ning golf shoe, just remember that Steph is not only the best three-point shooter of all time but is also really good at golf and will take your lunch money any day of the week.
