I Just Started Playing Golf: What Type Of Golf Glove Should I Wear?

Whether you wear a golf glove is a personal choice. By the end of this article, you should know which glove is best suited for your current skill level and how much you’ll need to spend. In 2026, we tested 55 golf gloves.

AAA Cabretta Leather

When you choose a glove made out of AAA Cabretta, you get a glove that is extremely comfortable. The best AAA Cabretta golf gloves will feel like a second skin.

Golf gloves made from AAA Cabretta typically offer slightly better grip than other glove types with the downsides being reduced breathability and higher price.

The Callaway Tour Authentic Triple Diamond—this year’s co-winner in our testing—is $39.99. It scored 24/25 in the grip and feel categories.

Cabretta Leather

Standard Cabretta leather is a slight step down from AAA Cabretta leather but still offers a lot of the benefits of AAA Cabretta.

The best value on the market is the Infinity Golf Glove, scoring 23.5/25 in grip and feel categories and landing at $7.99 before shipping. The best strategy is to stock up on two or three gloves at a time. The Infinity Golf Glove has won our “Best Value” award for the past three years and our readers rave about the balance between price and performance.

Synthetic Golf Gloves

If you’re brand new to golf, listen up! Synthetic golf gloves may become your best friend.

Some synthetic golf gloves will run cheaper than Cabretta leather gloves while others, like the $26.87 Red Rooster ‘Simster’, will be similar in price to Cabretta gloves. Synthetic golf gloves can feature more breathability due to their microfiber construction.

Some golfers use synthetic gloves while they practice or for rounds in the rain or heavy heat and save their premium gloves for ideal conditions and more important rounds. The Simster was built specifically for indoor practice.

Some golf gloves feature a mix of both synthetic and leather so you get the best of both worlds.

Synthetic works well for new golfers for two main reasons.

  1. Many new golfers struggle to grip the club properly, leading to decreased glove durability.
  2. New golfers may not put as much emphasis on the “feel” that a second-skin Cabretta glove gives.
