Amazon Sold 4,000 Of These $15 Golf Training Aids Last Month. Do You Need One?

Every now and then, I skip Amazon’s “recommended for you” section and sort by best sellers instead.

It’s an honest look at what real golfers are buying. Last month, more than 4,000 golfers purchased the SKLZ Golf Grip Trainer.

What it is

The SKLZ Grip Trainer attaches to your club and forces your hands into a consistent position. It’s small enough to keep in your bag and it fits most standard grips.

You use it to build muscle memory so that your hands find the right spot automatically every time you pick up a club.

It’s basic but that’s kind of the point. Small changes in hand placement can create big problems with face control and consistency.

Why it’s worth talking about

If you think a grip trainer sounds too simple to matter, here’s something to consider: Scottie Scheffler uses a grip-focused training aid in his practice sessions. His version isn’t this exact tool. It’s more of a training grip installed on an extra club but the concept is identical. Check your fundamentals, even when you’re the best player in the world.

If the world’s most consistent ball-striker still monitors how he holds the club, there’s no reason the rest of us should treat it like beginner-only territory.

Who it’s for

The SKLZ Grip Trainer is for anyone who struggles with slices, inconsistent contact or re-gripping mid-swing. Beginners can use it to learn proper hand placement. Experienced players can use it as a quick pre-round reminder.

My take

When I was teaching golf, the first thing I always looked at was grip, stance and takeaway. If you can get those things down, you’ve got a chance.

The grip is your only connection to the club. Everything that happens at impact starts there. Do you need another gadget? Maybe not. But if you’ve ever questioned your consistency or feel like something small keeps holding your swing back, it’s a cheap and practical place to start.

I like it even as an indoor training tool for golfers who need a way to practice in the winter. Grip a club every day and things won’t feel so foreign when you get out on the course the next time.

The only negative I see with the SKLZ Grip trainer is the lack of education. A few great explainer videos from the company would be helpful, or some drills and practice suggestions.

Let us know in the comments if you’re one of the 4,000 who bought one of these last month. Is it working for you?

I’m assuming that if you want a slightly strong/weaker grip you would position the arrow at the bottom of the grip trainer right/left of center?

I’m assuming this is another item that isn’t available for left handed golfers.

I purchased a left-handed version of the brand that Golf Galaxy sells. Same product, different colors.
