Chasing Distance This Winter? Start With One Of These 3 Training Aids

Every winter, golfers say the same thing: “I want more distance next season.” Who wouldn’t? Distance doesn’t show up because you swung a club harder a few times in the garage. It shows up when speed, strength and sequencing improve together.

If gaining distance is your goal this winter, I’d focus on three training aids that address the problem from different angles. These are the three I’d start with.

The Stack System

The Stack golf training aid and swing speed trainer

The Stack System is a weighted speed-training system paired with an app-based program that tracks swing speed over time.

Speed training only works when you can measure progress, follow a plan and adjust based on results. With The Stack, you see small changes over time and every session is measured. I find that working on this in the off-season (rather than in the middle of the season) is beneficial to my game.

The Stack gives you a clear picture of whether your training is working and it lets you focus less on trying to force speed.

GolfForever

If you’re not strong or mobile enough to swing faster, speed isn’t going to just appear.

I’ve started working with the GolfForever system and my goal this winter isn’t to chase speed. It is to use the program consistently. The distance will follow.

What separates GolfForever from generic fitness routines is how golf-specific it feels. The movements translate directly to the swing. A big thing that I like about it is that the system never feels reckless.

At no point in using GolfForever have I felt like I was putting myself at risk for injury or throwing off my golf swing in any way. The initial assessment helps ensure you start from the right point and work your way up. It’s a smart system that helps golfers of all levels build speed and consistency.

Power Shift Board

One of the most common issues I see when golfers return to the course after the off-season is a lack of lower-body engagement. You instinctively know how to swing your arms and hands. The legs, however, tend to stand there like a kid asleep in the back of the classroom.

The Power Shift Board forces the legs to wake up and raises awareness of the weight shift in your golf swing. Early versions of this product didn’t do much for me. The feedback wasn’t strong enough and the noise was barely audible. That’s been corrected in the latest model.

The current version delivers clear, unmistakable feedback and it’s one of the best-selling training aids in 2025.

Huge fan of both GolfForever and The Stack. Use both and the improvements have been pretty incredible. GolfForever to get the body functional and moving well + The Stack to layer on speed. Unbeatable combo!

Golf-targeted yoga is another area to consider in an effort to improve hip/torso/overall rotation. Working on this throughout the year has helped elongate my swing path, providing the club more time to build to max velocity prior to ball impact.
