McLaren Golf’s Accessory Line Might Be Better Than the Clubs

McLaren Golf has had a rocky start, on the course at least.

For starters, brand ambassador Justin Rose was a combined +1 in his last two starts on the PGA Tour. To put things in perspective, he was a combined -16 in the two starts before that.

When you tack on the $375 per club price (yes, you read that right), McLaren Golf is tough to take seriously.

But let’s put its slow start off the Tour’s starting line aside for the moment, OK?

I set out to find a bright side to McLaren Golf and what they offer. I found it in the form of apparel that embodies F1 and everything that McLaren is hoping to build.

Here are a few of my favorite pieces.

Hats

Most of the time, hats are an affordable option that lets you represent a brand you like without breaking the bank. McLaren Golf hats range from $40 to $100 with most sitting at the $100 price point.

Spending $100 on a hat feels unjustifiable but it feels slightly less so when you realize most of McLaren Golf’s hat collection was made by Melin. McLaren Golf hats see a slight mark-up in terms of price compared to the typical Melin hat but it’s not astronomical by any means.

McLaren Golf Icon Logo Umbrella – Papaya

I’ve never been an umbrella guy but something about the Logo Umbrella’s Papaya coloring speaks to me.

I’d be shocked if we don’t see this piece in more promotional material/collaboration onto the racetrack.

McLaren Golf Apex Check Blade Putter Headcover

I think this “checkered flag” inspired design is tight.

Some of you will decide to be “Grinchy” and call it ugly but the racing fans won’t care. If you follow F1 and play a blade putter, you’d be silly not to add this to your bag.

As far as additional headcovers go, you’ll find a number of others available for purchase on McLaren Golf’s site.

Not sure this brand will LIV to see another day! Merch is way too pricey for the average golfer, and when it all boils down to a little gravy, a hat is a hat, and an umbrella serves a purpose. I just don’t see this brand taking off, and if it were listed on the stock market, and it may very well be, I personally would not be an investor!

Vessel Bags. Melin headwear. G/FORE gloves. Most of the stuff they have on their website appears to only have a slight markup over the pricing from the manufacturers they commissioned for their gear. But the million dollar question is why would I want gear to promote a brand I will most likely never own? That is unless you are really into orange!

Except for the umbrella, all of this McClaren stuff appears ill-conceived and looks like Schiess. Justin–you F’d up !

A hundred bucks for a hat is obscene no matter who made it. This entire brand screams “I’m a sucker with too much money.”
