Distance sells…if it didn’t then golf companies wouldn’t make the outlandish claims like “15 More Yards Guaranteed” or “The Longest Driver We Have Made Yet”. These shocking claims have been going on forever in the golf world and believe it or not golfers continue to buy it…year after year. Yes, some people may have naturally faster swings than others, but that doesn’t mean that a slow or a fast person couldn’t get faster through some basic training. I’ve seen guys that are in great shape and not hit the ball anywhere. I’ve also seen guys with big potbellies absolutely kill the ball. So really what I needed to find was information on how to train my body to swing faster and not necessarily on how to be more fit for golf. Unfortunately, search after search revealed that there was pretty much no information out there about how to train to swing a golf club faster.
So I set out to design my own program. And when I had combined all of this information with what I already knew about athletics and training, I came up with a program that packed on 26 mph to my maximum driver swing speed in only 37 days. I went on to record a 155mph driver swing with my Sports Sensors Swing Speed Radar and I also won my RE/MAX Qualifier with a grid-record 421-yard drive.

Naturally, a lot of people that knew me were curious to know how my speed went up so quickly. Obviously, what I did worked for me, but I wasn’t sure if it would work for other people. I also didn’t know if they would want to train as much as me, if they had access to the same equipment, or if the training would work with different swing styles. With those things in mind, I decided to take the bare bones of my program and put it to test on several testers who ranged in age from 12-55 and who had variety of handicaps. I then designed a twice-weekly Basic Speed Training program such that they didn’t need to buy anything special or have to make any trips to the gym or driving range. The result was a 12-16 mph (30-40 yards) gain for each of them in the first 30 days of training.

Of course I was excited and I decided to take all of this information and use it to be the base for creating my Swing Man Golf website. As word began to spread, more and more people tried out the Basic Speed training…and over and over I would see the same 12-16mph (30-40 yard) driver swing speed gains. Today, our YouTube Channel has had over 1,000,000 video views and the testimonials from our membership base of almost 4,000 comes from juniors in their early teens to seniors in their upper 80s.

To my surprise, one of our 58-year old members even went on to beat my own personal speed gains record. He had increased his speed so much that he decided to try long drive in the Super Senior division and he ended up winning several of his Qualifiers. I realize that this is an extreme example but I still think it is worth mentioning because, much like Tom Watson in the 2009 British Open, it can be inspiring for the rest of us and demonstrate what is possible at any age when you continually apply your desires to a solid training program.

I am a firm believer in the fact that just because you have the new sooper dooper driver and your clubs cost you a zillion dollars each will not make you be able to hit the ball any further. If your basic such as your stance an positioning are not right then your swing is all wrong as well
