Is This The New Shape Of All Golf Umbrellas?

There usually isn’t much to talk about in the golf umbrella industry. After all these years…golfers still seem

to be searching for one that actually works when it rains. And when you do finally get one to keep you dry…that other thing kicks up and folds it like a cheap tent…you know what we are talking about, “umbrella kryptonite”…the wind.

So…of course when we heard about the Mibrella one we were somewhat skeptical. You see…companies and inventors send us quite a bit of product to review or websites for us to look at in hopes of getting their new golf gadget in front of MGS readers. Many times it is not something we feel would be of much interest but for some reason we all thought this Mibrella might actually catch-on. Actually we felt like it might do more then catch-on…we think like it could possibly change the shape of the umbrella entirely.

This is what the Bicycle caddies use in Asia, this shape. Covers the passengers in the back.

Not a bad concept. Looks like the design may really be unique. Nice holder system also. However, we did not see any video or data on how it works in the wind. The real test!

      Don,

Thanks for your comments. We will post a video or two shortly showing the mibrella system “on the course”. It handles the wind REALLY well, and will pass the test with flying colors!

The new shape makes sense for all uses, not just golf. I would be concerned about how much the mechanism’s extra complexity might affect it though.

And Arnie would need to change his logo, wouldn’t he?

      LoneWolf,

Thanks for your comments. Soccer parents are probably the second biggest interest group for the mibrella shape, especially with the UV barrier.

As for the mechanism, it’s not that complex. It’s our unique combination of existing, proven hardware that makes the mibrella work so well. We use double spreaders, thicker ribs and polycarbonate ‘knuckle’ joints, not riveted aluminum.

This is all the same technology used in the umbrella with Guess Who’s name on it.

As for Arnie, I’m sure we could work something out ;)

I think it needs the dual canopy and then make a walker’s version where if u lay it on the ground it’ll cover over your clubs in your stand bag to keep them dry and for the towel flap you could just put a little L shaped metal notch on the shaft where you can hang it.

Good ideas for making a better mousetrap…I like the longer grip and shape. Only chink in the armor is no dual canopy. If it’s windy and rainy, AND you’re driving your cart, not good.

      Crosier,

      Thanks for your comments.

Mibrellas aerodynamic shape negates the need for a double canopy. We could have easily add that feature but there is no need.

It is our experience that large ROUND umbrellas need a way to release air pressure when caught in an unfavourable position. The vented canopy can help in this situation, but only if it is designed as well as, let’s say, a Gustbuster. Even so, the round umbrella tends to pull down and away from you and it can be a challenge to regain control.

When mibrella is in the same unfavourable position, it start to react like a kite and wants to ride up and in to the wind. Being able to chokeup on the larger grip also adds to the control.

Into the wind, mibrella has slight lift which makes it even easier to hold.

Interesting concept. Like the auto-open button. I’ve always thought a golf umbrella should have an inner flap in the canopy to store towels to keep them dry – rather than hanging them from the spokes.
