First Look – Mizuno Japan GENEM Golf Shoes

First Look – Mizuno Japan GENEM Golf Shoes
An interesting new Mizuno Shoe…that you probably can’t buy.

I didn’t set out this morning to make today shoe day at MyGolfSpy. Nor did I set forth with an explicit plan to one-up GolfSpy Dave and show you even more Mizuno stuff that you probably won’t find in a store near you.

What can I say? Both of those things happened organically after I stumbled across the new GENEM Golf Shoe from Mizuno Japan.

Japan First

As you’re probably aware, Mizuno is a Japanese company, and so it’s not surprising that while beloved here in the USA, the company is a much bigger deal in Japan. What that often means is that a subset of Mizuno Golf’s product line (like the balls, for example), never crosses the Pacific…or even the Atlantic. Basically golfers in Japan and Europe too, often can get their hands on Mizuno products that you may never know exist.

Case in point (probably) is the GENEM golf shoe. It caught my attention as I was scrolling past pictures of homely children in my Facebook feed. Frankly, the shoe was the best-looking thing I’d seen this morning.

Notable Features

Admittedly we’re in a bit of a grey area here as Google’s translator isn’t exactly precise, but here’s what I’ve been able to piece together. The GENEM features a sole structure designed for improved stability. It has a D-Flex Groove Structure that helps control movement of the foot during the swing, while supporting a smoother weight shift.

It has a urethane insole and a synthetic leather upper.

From what I can tell, the GENEM is designed with some sort of technology that allows the shoe to feel more connected to the ground without sacrificing stability.

To a degree, it’s a bit like the FootJoy DNA, I suppose.

The Mizuno GENEM is available in 3 colorways (blue, red, black), comes in 30 different size/width combinations, and features a BOA closure system.

To potentially find more information (especially if you’re fluent in Japanese), visit the Mizuno Japan Website.

A self-confessed mizuno fan, I am equally frustrated by the small sub-set of product that seems to make it out of Japan, but as noted in another comment – thats what Rakuten is for!!
I discovered the joy of Mizuno shoes with the previous generation of Genem, which were laced, and were the most commented on pair of golf shoes I have owned – all positive. I have since purchased shoes with the boa closure and must admit I like it. All in all, would not hesitate to recommend mizuno shoes – maybe a bit of brand loyalty, but I do find them every bit as comfortable as FJ or Ecco, and certainly better looking!

These shoes suck. Just tried them on yesterday, not much improvement on the pervious version. The BOA is the worst tying system. It pinches in one direction at the top or the side depending on where the manufacturer puts it and can’t be adjusted. Laces would have been much better for these shoes. All the companies should get rid of the BOA. You basically need two BOAs on one shoe, one on top and one on the bottom to be able to adjust the tightness depending on foot shape. So they might as well use laces.

Great looking golf shoe and very similar to the Footjoy ones that I wear. I’ve no doubt they’ve modeled their shoes on the FJ design.

Is this considered a premium shoe? If so I’m not a fan of the synthetic upper. I’ve never seen a synthetic leather that wore or breathed as well as the real thing.

Just looks like it would leave a lot of spike marks. I’m not attracted to it.

Why is it that shoe manufacturers always show the shoe from the outside angle and never the inside angle? A shoe fits me if it doesn’t have a seam or any doodads across the big toe area, and they never show that. I’ll stick with Trues.
