My Three Favorite Cotton Polos Just Got Even Better

As you all know, I’m a sucker for cotton golf polos. And, as crazy as it is to say, here on the East Coast, #summerofcotton is already on the wane. As summer begins its heralded journey into the long goodnight, I always find myself thinking of Johnny Mathis’ classic cover of the theme from Summer of ’42: “The summer smiles, the summer knows, and unafraid, she sheds her clothes.”

Funny enough, I think we can look at that two ways. First, #summerofcotton is a forever movement. Second, there’s still plenty of golf left to be played this year. And as temperatures start to cool ever so slightly, this is as good a time as any for the naysayers out there to finally take the cotton dive.

That brings me, once again, to B. Draddy.

I’ve already said that B. Draddy makes the best cotton polos in golf, and I stand by that completely. They’re soft, breathable, exceptionally well-made, fit well, and incredibly versatile.

As part of B. Draddy’s Labor Day Sale, you can save 15% with code LABORDAY15. That makes three of my favorite cotton polos even easier to recommend.

Here are the three I’d buy.

1. The Gibson

The Gibson is the greatest golf polo ever made.

What continues to blow my mind is that it’s cotton. It is extraordinarily lightweight, breathable and, I say this with complete sincerity, cool. I’ve worn plenty of premium synthetic golf polos marketed around cooling technology, and very few of them feel as good as the Gibson when the temperature climbs.

It also happens to look incredible. The collar has that slightly cutaway shape that has become more common in golf apparel lately, and I think it suits the shirt perfectly. The overall silhouette is clean, polished and just different enough to stand out. Needless to say, this is an exceptionally handsome polo. Whenever I wear it, I get compliments. More importantly, whenever I wear it, I’m always glad I did.

At this point, I don’t really know what else to say. The Gibson is the standard.

2. The Murph

Next to the Gibson, the Murph is the infinitely more versatile of the two. This simply looks like an old-school, lightweight polo shirt, and that’s exactly why I love it. The Batik Heather/Pink colorway is one of my favorites, especially paired with Nantucket reds. That combination is absolutely stunning.

I’m generally a shirt tucker, but the Murph looks phenomenal either way. Tucked in, it has a classic American look. Untucked, it still hangs beautifully and looks just as good. I find myself wearing it both ways quite a bit. While the Gibson might be my favorite golf polo, the Murph is probably my favorite all-around polo. It’s the one I’d reach for when I want something that works just as well away from the course as it does on it.

3. Jack Long-Sleeve Polo

The end of summer and early fall is some of my favorite weather of the year. Cool mornings, cool evenings and just enough heat in the middle of the day. There’s almost nothing I like more than wearing a long-sleeve polo with a pair of shorts, and the Jack was practically made for that combination.

The Jack is slightly heavier than B. Draddy’s other cotton polos, using a 40s single yarn that gives it just a little extra substance. More importantly, it is unbelievably soft. This is one of the softest shirts I’ve ever worn.

I wear the Jack with shorts on the course all the time, and I wear it just as often at night on the beach. That versatility is what makes it such an easy favorite. Long sleeves and shorts already go together like peanut butter and jelly, and the Jack is one of the best examples of why.
