RIP – Here Lies – Your Old Rain Jacket (19?? – 2013)

“I just love how my rain jacket feels when I swing the golf club.” (said by: no one ever)

Let’s face it golfing in a Florida 10 minute downpour or Chicago wind by firing squad isn’t the most pleasant of feelings.  Now add to that reaching in that bag of yours to grab that crusty, old stale, and stiff rain jacket and you have a recipe for one of the most forgettable (memorable) rounds of your life.

Rain Jackets…they suck…have for years.

Nike Golf Apparel…they don’t suck…haven’t for years.

Pound for pound, I think they make the best apparel in the golf industry.  They know materials, and let me tell you, the material they created for this new Nike HyperAdapt Rain Jacket will officially kill every rain jacket that came before it.  And honestly, I think they’re only gettin’ started.  It’s a pretty safe bet that they are just scratching the surface of what’s possible with modern apparel.

      Looks cool, and i like nike gear. however i’m glad i never have to play in the rain, because when it rains here in phoenix it’s almost always either with lighting, or so cold and windy that day there would no chance i’d be outside anyway.

      Live and play on Long Island.Bought a Galvin in Ireland. great but not really fit for most Americans. Footjoy Sunderland also good. But the reality is If it rains hard enough to justify a $300 rain jacket they probably close the course because the greens will flood. Anything short of that a sub $100 is more than any golfer “this side of the pond” will ever need

      Just picked up a Sunice Ultimate Gore Tex jacket for £153 (approx $250 US) here in the UK. Was hoping it was going to chuck it down at the weekend just to see how good it is, but the weather is looking too good! Roll on winter league :)

      Be glad to see the back of the 6 year old footjoy jacket now, although to be fair it only really leaks around the elbows where the bottom half of the sleeves zip off. Me thinks a spray of DWR and an ebay auction could be around the corner…………

      I have the Zero Restriction Featherweight Traveler that has zip off sleeves and pants so the jacket can also be short sleeve or a vest and the pants become shorts. I think it was about $400-$430 for the jacket, pants, and hat. A pure rain “jacket” for me is a non starter being in Atlanta. With the summer rains, there is no way I’m wearing long sleeves. For me to even consider the Nike, it would have to be convertible and undercut the ZR by about $100.

      I have Zero Restriction Tour Lite (jacket and pants) and for me it is the best going. Cannot see changing at all.

      I’m with hotbaws, here in the UK it’s best to have more than one suit for the various levels of bad weather. I have a galvin and footjoy suit but if it gets bad enough nothing will keep you totally dry. Wouldn’t pay $280 for a nike jacket or even the new adidas jacket.

      Sorry but I’ve got to laugh at this advert…I don’t believe American golfers as a whole know a great deal about golfing in the rain. As someone who hails from Scotland and golf’s every weekend regardless of the weather so waterproofs is something we live in most of the year.

      I’ve got Zero Restriction suit, 2 Galvin Green suits, a Footjoy suit and a Proquip suit.

      All of these suits bar the footjoy are goretex and will take the worst Scottish weather in their stride. The FJ suit is what we’d class as a summer rain suit fine for light showers but not suitable for winter golf when it’s around 0° rain, sleet and snow coming down.

      Zero Restriction has the best features of any of my suits but it’s bloody boring design and colour scheme is crap….Galvin Green is well designed, flashy bright colours which younger golfers want.

      Most serious golfers over this side of the pound will use Galvin Green even though they are ridiculously expensive £300/$500 for a jacket and £200/$300 for the trousers, only issue is with GG being a Swedish company their clothes are more of an athletic fit so if you are short and or fat trying to get a good fit isn’t easy.

      I wouldn’t spend my cash on a Nike suit.

      Not 2p worth, this is just the truth, Gore Tex is for long the best and only material that can claim to be water resistant and breathable and relatively light. Proofs are everywhere, not only in all the reviews, comparison, tests, user feedback etc, it is for example the only material that climbers are using in the mountain.
      Since it has been introduced at least 15 years ago in golf cloting, I have never used any other material. Best brand for golf is Galvin Green for clothing (Puma being a close 2nd), and only and therefore best brand for golf shoes is Ecco Golf. Yes it is (too) expensive but quality has a cost, and staying dry after 4 hours of rain and all that it means (no cough or throat infection or …) for me is priceless.
      If you want to be serious (and more importantly dry) with your outdoor clothing, whether it is for golfing, walking, hiking or climbing etc., you have no other choice than a Gore Tex product. I hope there will have more competition in the close future to see the prices go down a little bit but in 2013, this is the only choice you have if you want to play when it is raining.

      Being a resident of Arizona, we seldom have a need for a rain jacket. That is, other than the monsoon season when it becomes torrential rain at times. Never the less, as a retired man, $200.00+ dollars is a bit steep for us old golfers. I hope you sell so many, you will reduce the price so we can also not get soaked.

      I had a Hogan rain jacket that I used for years… Wish I still had it. it was the most comfortable and flexible rain jacket I ever had. The only thing that has come close for me so far is the Mizuno jackets. Have worn them for rain and cold. They have worked for me in both categories. They also somehow have the ability to offer both rain and cool protection when needed, but are not hot in the Florida showers. It also comes in a short sleeve that works well too in our south Florida 90/90 days.

      I hope the tested it in the west of Scotland most claim to be waterproof but don’t protect you in a wild hooley you get here !!?!?!

      I have a Zero Restriction rain jacket that works great. I don’t recall it ever being crusty or stiff when I pull it out of the bag. It also breathes very well so even in a warm rain shower I don’t sweat. How much better can this be? Thanks

      Curious about these. Mizuno has great stretchy rain stuff that I have really liked.

      Love my Mizuno… I caught a 1/2 off sale on Edwin Watts and jumped on the jacket. I have some old baggy pants I use, but the jacket is my favorite.

      Lets hope its not 200$. I have an under armor golf rain jacket and I agree, It sucks. When it gets really wet it sticks to me. It gets uncomfortable and extremely warm. When its raining just a bit, I usually get really hot and start sweating even a bit and its not comfortable. Its built so baggy and puffy that although its the right length, its made for an obese man. It wasnt that cheap either, over 100$. So much room for improvement. Interested to see the result and if I can even afford it.

      Clicked on the link. 280$ HAHAHAHAHAHA. U cant be serious. Somebody LMK when they dont want my left nut for a jacket. Thats more than most of my jackets combined. I know I can wear it outside golf but really how many times a year. Under 20 even with golf.

      To bad, Im sure people will buy it, just like they buy full retail golf pants and shirt for 100+$, but it wont be me.

      Not on my must-have list, although the price point isn’t at all out of line with high-quality athletic rain gear. Actually, it wouldn’t be difficult to drop a $100 more on something made of Gore-tex.

      I purchased a UA Rain Jacket this spring and love it.
      Have only had to use it 3 times so far, it’s light and does not restrict any movements and most importantly, kept me dry.
      I was warm in the jacket, but less so than with any other rain jacket I’ve ever owned.

      Yeah. That’s the first thought that popped into my head was “Oy, that looks expensive…” Very cool though. I never play in the rain. It started raining during one round I played this year, and by the time we reached the turn the rain was coming in sideways. Don’t think this jacket would’ve convinced me to finish the round.
