Hey therel – back after a hiatus – best of the New Year to all.

Not a putter in the group that piques my interest, which would translate into my c/c card stays in my wallet. That a company the size of Callaway would not use the skills of a world class designer and just rehash old designs is a shame.
There are numerous ways to put a new twist on old designs that will catch the consumers wallet – Cally missed the mark with these I’m afraid.

      Here is the PoolPutter: http://www.worldgolf.com/products/clubs/pool-putter.htm

Here is the TourEdge version: http://valueguide.pga.com/detail-exec/brand/2770/product_type/206/model/46053/b/Tour%20Edge/p/Putter/m/T-Balance%2001

But both had a little different placement. The Odyssey’s all have more forward plcement of the head then these two models….

Looks to me like the rumours I have been hearing about Tour Edge’s Financial Woes may have a grain of truth to them. It almost looks like they sold the rights of their old “T-Square” rear center shafted model and somehow that old design made hot monkey love with a Bazooka Geomax. –Personally that old “T-Square” (I believe that’s what it was called) was a very effective putter, and way ahead of its time. These Backstrykes –if they are as well balanced as those old Tour Edges just might work. I’m not a real fan of this year’s insert, however, and hope the one on these is different.

tour edge did something like this years sgo as well as about a dozen or so lower tier or knock-off companys. i’ll give them credit for using the 2-ball in that one model because they might attract current 2-ball user’s but this this is definetly an aquired taste. from a retail aspect it’s gonna be tough for the customer to commit $150+ on something this risky but with the lack of new options it just might sell. OR NOT!!

I agree. Nothing new under the sun. It looks like a good rip off of the STX putters. I do like the center shaft.

Ok the Tour Edge putter was called Tour Edge T-Balance.

Well I was at my local Roger Dunns Monday looking for a new putter when in walked the Odyssey rep. He brought these out and let me putt with 3 models. I gotta say it was weird. Looking down at the putter and hitting the ball was just too odd to me. I hit for about 30 minutes and began to swing a little better but the look was really hard to get past. This isn’t new though I remember a putter by tour edge or something being out in early 2000 just like this.

Look forward to seeing these in the flesh. The hosel placement is a cross between a Futura and a Styx. With the shaft bend will these still be offset? If not they may take some time to get used to. Red and Black seems the colour scheme of 2010.

Excuse me STX not Styx… the Backstryke name confused me and it was the TourEdge putter I was thinking about LOL. Well done for Callaway for trying something new even if it is something old. It’s a shame that there isn’t a new design with the wow factor, after all this is the company that turned Dave Pelz’s hideous three ball putter into the excellent 2ball. I wonder if that designer still works there?

The putters are all phenomenal. The get your hands in a great position at address and there is no twisting or delofting of the clubface. I was thoroughly impressed.
