Our 5 Favorite Golf Ball Designs

You already know from our extensive testing here at MyGolfSpy that we are serious about finding the best and brightest when it comes to absolutely everything golf, including golf balls. While performance and data will always be at the heart of what we do, color and design are in the eye of the beholder.

Every golfer has a preference when it comes to ball color and if you find yourself straying away from the classic white, your options have never looked this good!

These are our five favorite golf ball designs.*

*No particular order

1. Vice Shade

One of the more understated designs on this list, the Vice Shade features a gentle gradient between two different colors. Available on the Pro and Pro Plus, I’ve really enjoyed playing these and have found them super-easy to spot in the rough. Look, y’all, we all wind up there from time to time ….

2. Vice Drip

Vice has been seriously shaking things up in the ball design world and the Vice Drip is easily one of my favorites on this short list. The drip design is an option for their Pro, Pro Plus and new Pro Air line of balls. The colors are subtle enough that I found they didn’t make me overly focus on the ball but they definitely made my ball stand out on the fairway with the drip design.

3. Srixon Divide

This is easily one of the most polarizing designs on the list and it might have a few folks divided. (I’ll see myself out.) On the course, I found these incredibly easy to spot and if the colorway is a little too bright for you, give them a shot on the practice green. I found the way the colors split made it super-easy to see and feel how my putts were rolling.

4. TaylorMade Tour Response Stripe

If you lean a little more towards traditional white but still want increased alignment on the greens, the Tour Response Stripe might tick all the boxes for you. I loved how I wasn’t overwhelmed by the color with these balls. Using them around the green, I was impressed with the amount of feedback the pattern gave me.

5. Bridgestone Mindset

Bridgestone Mindset golf ball

Y’all know we had to finish this list off with something a little funky! The Bridgestone Mindset is still technically a white golf ball but the Mindset technology visual aid sets it apart from the rest of the TOUR B lineup.

What are your favorites?

For the past few years, ball designs and colorways have been pushing the limit. From increased alignment to higher visibility, these represent potential additions to every golfer’s tool kit.

What colors or designs do you play? Bold? Classic white? Let us know below!

I love Vice. One of my favorite balls. The neon green? Amazing. The Drip? What a fun, cool concept. The Shade? Looks like a water ball that’s been left on the bank of the hazard for a few months. I just can’t shake that image. Great balls, but that design is a swing and miss for me.

The TaylorMade Tour Response Stripe was my favorite, but now I really like the new TP5 Stripe with the black and white color scheme. My second favorite is the Callaway Chrome Tour 360 Triple Track

I am a huge fan of the Q Tour Divide balls. Easy and fun to see inflight! They fly very straight and consistent for me and I can get very good spin on them around the green. Just did my first “pressure flop shot” and it went great. I always know which one is “my ball” on/around the green. Very durable. Lined up on the putting green with a Cleveland Cero (or other long alignment aid) putter behind it – should be illegal. But its not and it works.

I’m a big fan of the Yellow/Orange Srixon Divide (Q-Star Tour) balls. Blue/Yellow are impossible to find in the rough.
As for the Vice faded balls and paint splatter – I’d never play them. The faded ones look like a ball you found in the pond or been in the weather all season. The paint splatter looks drives me crazy, I keep wanting to clean the ball.
Not a fan of the Bridgestone Mindset balls either. But, one that’s missing is the Maxfli Tour Align balls – I like those a lot.
By the way, you omitted the soccer and PIX balls…

My reason for getting attached to a certain brand was financial. Through the years I became accustomed to their equipment and I don’t feel like changing just because I am no longer supported by that brand. If you like colors and designs go for it. I try to base my choice on performance within my brand family. Call me stupid if you like.
One thing I hate on balls are alignment aids. Nothing like standing in the fairway watching some 18 handicap aligning their ball multiple times on a 6 foot putt and then watch the ball completely miss the hole.
I may suck at golf these days but I do it quickly.

Only thing worse is watching someone do aim-point for 4 minutes from all sides then do the finger thing only to miss the 6 footer by a foot 🤷‍♂️

I love the Vice Shade. Great ball and easy to find, plus drives my playing partners a little crazy which helps on the bets! Funny story, just got back from a trip to Ireland where I figured the shade balls would be easy to hunt down in the rough. 1st course we played was Lahinch. Got to the 1st tee and the rough was tall but also in bloom…with yellow buttercup flowers! No hope of finding a shade ball there! I had to dig around the bag and find a few white balls and to the caddie’s credit, he found it every time!

I am just old fashion I guess but the standard white ball is what I like. I could probably play something like the TaylorMade Tour Response Stripe or the Callaway Chrome Tour Triple Track might be fine but the others are just to busy for my taste.

I like the solid yellow or chartreuse(green balls). I’m old so I still remember the first colored balls. They were the Wilson Pro Staff with the truncated dimples and only came in orange. I bought six dozen of them from an ad in a golf magazine in 100 compression balata and loved them🤔😊.

I loaded up on 5 dozen Vice at beginning of year. White, drip, and shade. I broke into the shade for my last round and found them really easy to spot. I still prefer the drip but the shade will get some play until the leaves start falling because I’m guessing that orange to yellow will blend in way too well as I hit a good 60% of my shots from near the trees.

I’ve been using Vice Lime Green for years. Love the 5 dozen deal.
I think the Vice Shade would be my pick out of these.
Definitely loose less balls in the rough.

I too am an experienced duffer who spends way too much time in rough. I have played all my illustrious career with white golf balls. Finding wayward shots is becoming difficult. My last two rounds I switched to the Vice yellow. Not only am I finding more fairways (at least it mentally seems that way), finding the rough shots is very much easier. Since I enjoy golf by not keeping score too much and often play with purist 4-6 HCs, I enjoy pulling out and play a split yellow/orange ball. Drives them nuts. Golf is fun!

As a very senior golfer, I use a soft ball and find that I alternate between the Callaway Super Soft Yellow balls and the Bridgestone Soft Feel Yellow. I must admit that after finding an Optic Green Callaway, I’m considering a switch to the green. I find that the yellow (and green) balls help me focus a little bit more

I’m a traditionalist and play a Titleist white golf ball, so definitely not a fan of the “split” colored golf balls. I have tried putting on my Perfect Practice mat with the TaylorMade Response Stripe ball and that’s a little overwhelming, especially taking the time to continually line it up properly. If I were going to play a “non-white” golf ball then the Vice Drip is a subtle compromise. The Bridgestone Mindset marking/design would be my favorite of the bunch.

Not a fan of the Q Star divide colors but I’ve been gaming the Z-Star yellow and white for 2 years. MUCH easier to see than the blue/yellow and orange/yellow Q Star. Big plus is that only a few are playing these balls so you always know which ball is yours on the fairway or green.

I was surprised to see the Srixon Divide on the list. Doesn’t this ball have a matte finish? Doesn’t Tony always tell us to not play a ball with a matte finish because it does not spin as much (esp. when wet)? Should you be recommending golf balls that are against your own recommendations?

I play Vice Pro Air and TaylorMade’s new Speedsoft Inked. I love all the designs. I also game Maxfli TourS when the big box is on sale.

I generally play white with some graphics but I am red / green color blind so I have to be careful picking the color.

In the fall I play bright yellow versions of the above so I can find them in the leaves.

If the SCIENCE data list you make goes 1 thru 10 for BEST balls for this, and best ball for that – THAT’s the DATA, THE list, is it not?
      So just give us that.
Nobody cares why you LIKE, then, nor will it matter, right? Because it would be silly to NOT play one of the BEST balls examined scientifically for player and speed and swing types.
Makes no sense to have a FEELING then, does it? If you’re going to play a ball based on FEELING, then why do ANY of these tests and examinations at all? Just play whatever you LIKE, then! Sheesh! Might as well just look at reviews on Amazon and retailer sites and decide off that! Doh!
