Rapsodo Introduces R-Speed: Native Support For Swing Speed Training

Rapsodo continues to push the boundaries of its platform for MLM2PRO and MLM devices with the R-Speed non-impact swing speed platform. The Rapsodo range has been recognized by MyGolfSpy as one of the best values in the launch monitor category. This feature adds a new element for golfers already using the Rapsodo devices or those considering purchasing a Rapsodo device.

Swing Speed Training

The golf world has seen a trend of golfers of all abilities eager to increase swing speed and distance through speed training. With several proven programs available, launch monitor companies are also recognizing this trend. Hence, Rapsodo R-Speed.

What Is R-Speed?

This innovation allows golfers to record and monitor swing speed performance and helps track swing speed gains. R-Speed is a non-impact feature, meaning the user does not need to hit a golf ball for the device to record swing speed. Users can combine this with their speed training programs from companies such as The Stack, SuperSpeed and Rypstick. Where these programs typically rely a separate radar device, golfers can now use the Rapsodo devices as an all-in-one package.

Don’t currently use a swing speed training system? Not a problem. R-Speed works with normal dry swings as well, meaning you can train with any club to record swing speed.

Combined with the Rapsodo R-Cloud, it not only tracks the swing speeds of each session but captures video of each swing. This allows users to watch and dissect their swings in real time. Users can also view recent swings frame by frame to see where changes and improvements can be made.

R-Speed is available only to Rapsodo users with a premium membership. It is included for the user’s first year and varies depending on whether the golfer owns an MLM2PRO or MLM.

How It Works

As with most of the Rapsodo platform, the process is pretty straightforward. Connect your Rapsodo device to your phone or tablet. Select the speed menu option to start your session.

Place the Rapsodo device six to eight feet behind you with the view window properly aligned.

Important to note your phone or tablet does not need to be directly behind you! The Rapsodo will only be using its radar function. Therefore, the camera device can be placed anywhere the user wishes. This aids in focusing on different areas in order to get the best view of what the golfer is working on.

Once the device is in place, select a preset swing speed training program (The Stack, SuperSpeed, Rypstick) or the option of none.

If you are using a specific program, follow your protocols and process for the session and watch as the Rapsodo device records each swing speed.

No other numbers outside of swing speed will show, as the sole purpose of this program is speed. Numbers for path, angle of attack, etc., are not available.

Once completed, end the session. It will then be uploaded to R-Cloud for viewing.

Why Is This Important?

The Rapsodo devices already offer so much bang for the buck and the company continues to provide regular updates to their software, boosting reliability and adding features.

The R-Speed feature is one of several added since the launch of the MLM2PRO. Some of the many others:

  • Slope and elevation updates to Simulation Mode
  • R-Cloud site for PC viewing and analysis of sessions
  • Stability and connection updates
  • New golf balls with RPT technology

Conclusion

The introduction of the R-Speed non-impact swing speed platform marks another advancement in Rapsodo’s commitment to enhancing the golfing experience. With a focus on providing value, the R-Speed feature aligns with the growing trend in the golfing world towards speed training. Its versatility, compatibility with popular training programs and integration with the Rapsodo R-Cloud showcase a dedication to meeting the diverse needs of golfers.

As part of the broader updates and improvements since the MLM2PRO launch, Rapsodo continues to set itself apart in the market. They do this by offering an all-in-one package for swing speed enthusiasts. The R-Speed feature not only contributes to the pursuit of improved swing speed performance but also reflects Rapsodo’s ongoing dedication to innovation and customer satisfaction. With an ever-expanding array of features, Rapsodo continues to push its own technological advancements. Providing golfers with tools that enhance their skills and enjoyment on the course.

I wish it included the club speed alongside other stats when hitting balls at a range session. Wait, I think it does, going by the images on their website. These Rapsodo devices are amazing for what they are. I plan to get an MLM this year for sure. It has been out so long, but still doesn’t really have competition with the price range and features.

Does this sync with the Stack’s program? ( I doubt so)
As it stands, I need to input the swing speeds into the Stack app while doing speed training. Not sure how having another app open to record my swings works. Or do I need 2 devices? One for Stack and one for Rapsodo?

I wish they gave the option to disable the video uploads. Saving videos of 100 swings just seems incredibly wasteful, not to mention how long it takes to upload them. Oh, and if you want to see really big numbers, try it in dim lighting. I recorded a 147mph swing. Seems fine in daylight, though.

Still boggles the mind that the MLM is iOS only after all these years.

We hear this stuff all the time, but you’ll find it’s a common reality across a lot of the golf world. What I think most people don’t realize is that programming for Android is insanely complex because, while we tend to think of it as 1 thing (Android) there are hundreds of variations that need to be accounted for.

Years ago, I spoke to a manufacturer of a golf training devices that relied on bluetooth connectivity to function. What he told me was that with iOS, there were +/- 1 dozen versions they needed to account for to guarantee compatibility/functionality. With Android systems … again, well over 100.

It’s not what people want to hear, but if you plan on leveraging your phone as some part of your golf training program, you’re likely going to need that phone to be running iOS.

You know the Rapsodo MLM2 app is cross platform, right? It can clearly be done. They just chose not to with the first one, and it’s an expensive decision to undo after the fact. Most of the problems I see at work are with the iOS side of our cross platform apps, not the Android side. iOS is actually especially hostile about Bluetooth. And licensing. And updates.

This is to reply Will’s comment below. The main difference between MLM and MLM 2 is the usage of camera system for its data. First MLM utilizes the iPhone’s camera for its data which means if this were to be adapted to Android, they have to account for all different types of cameras they come with. That is why even for iOS, they only work on certain models (not based on iOS version). MLM 2 doesn’t do that so it’s much easier to integrate with Android as well as iOS. I loved MLM so much that I ditched my Samsung and changed to iPhone and that was a good choice not just for MLM but also for usability as a phone.
