POVEC C1 Performance Sunglasses Review: Great, But Not Great For Golf

There is a lot of cool gear in the golf equipment world that doesn’t always fit neatly into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides. You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised.

What We Tried

The Povec C1 Performance Sunglasses.

Who Tried It

Ty. Soft Goods Testing Manager and potato chip enthusiast.

Every once in a while, new gear comes across my desk that is meant for something else but could work for the everyday golfer. The Povec C1 Performance Sunglasses fall squarely within this category.

Pros

These sunglasses are so rad.

Your tint changes from light to dark with a simple swipe of your finger on the right side of the frames. I’m only human and I would be lying if I said my “wow factor” wasn’t activated.

The technology is incredibly cool. The idea is simple: If you’re in a spot that’s super bright, swipe and enjoy the darker tint. If you’re going through a darker area or the cloud coverage reduces the need for sunglasses, swipe one more time for a less aggressive tint that allows more light.

In theory, you can turn the tint down when you’re hitting your shot and trying to track the ball and then you can turn it back up when you’re moving about the golf course as usual.

The original concept was clearly built for outdoor enthusiasts that consistently move from light to dark environments (think of a biker going in and out of tunnels on a bike ride). You experience much less of this on the golf course but the technology is still cool, nonetheless.

Cons

I’ve concluded that the Povec C1 Performance Sunglasses are better suited for other sports. They can work on the golf course but there are a couple of things that prevent me from easily recommending them.

First of all, too much light sneaks in from the top and sides. This is an issue on the golf course and I noticed it the most when I was on the putting surface. When I looked sideways to read a putt before making contact, enough light came through to hinder my routine.

Second, the tint seemed to allow more light than most of the golf sunglasses I tested in 2026. They help with some filtration but not enough to feel like a top-performing pair of golf sunglasses. When I toggled them to the darker tint, they felt average. When I switched to the lighter tint, I noticed hardly any relief from the sun.

I don’t say these things to label the Povec C1 Performance Sunglasses as a “bad” pair of sunglasses (because they’re not) but the limitations on the golf course are worth considering.

If you’re going to rock the Povec C1 Performance Sunglasses, you’ll get an advanced pair of sunglasses. Just plan on seeing the sun more than you’re used to with other golf sunglasses.
