Sergio’s Secret New Golf Ball Requires A $2,800 Membership (But You Can’t Buy It Anyhow)

Sergio Garcia’s bag is starting to get a little wild.

He’s switched from TaylorMade P7MBs to LA Golf irons which in and of itself is an interesting story. He’s now gaming the CB-26 (4- to 6-iron) and MB-26 (7-PW).

He’s switched from a Never Compromise Reserve 4 to a Golfyr The Maker Tour putter, a carbon offering he helped design.

And then there is his golf ball.

Rather than playing a TaylorMade TP5, Garcia is gaming an Underground Golf Ball.

Say what now?

A member-only golf ball for the beautiful people

Underground Golf is a new brand—and exclusive membership club—founded by actor Mark Wahlberg (verified golf sicko), Garry Singer (former co-founder of Clear Golf Balls) and Doug Meijer (owner of Meijer supermarkets).

First of all, what a trio. Did not have this on my 2026 bingo card.

The three avid golfers connected in Florida and decided to build an invitation-only golf society centered around a premium golf ball they reportedly spent a pretty penny to produce.

The ball will not be sold in stores. If you want it, you have to be invited—and apparently it will help immensely to be an athlete, entertainer, entrepreneur or otherwise well connected in the upper-echelon of society. Everyone start polishing up your résumé.

The buy-in if you are invited? $2,800.

That gets you a year’s worth of the balls (12 dozen boxes) and a custom-made overnight bag that has polos and workout shirts (including some from Wahlberg’s Municipal brand), a hoodie, a ball marker, a divot tool and gift cards or athletic shoes.

Balls are starting to ship in April although Garcia has already put them in play at LIV Riyadh.

A brand-new Underground Golf Instagram account came online this week. The first post shows Wahlberg touting the new ball. A second post shows Garcia doing the same.

Underground’s logo? It looks like the top of a manhole cover, hinting at the exclusivity of the brand (or the Ninja Turtles being involved).

Who exactly is getting invited? We’re not sure, although I came across this Instagram post from hockey player Jacob Trouba who said he was in.

OK, but what is with this new golf ball?

Oh, you wish you could know. You peasants would kill just to slice one of these $10 balls into the wilderness. Drive to Wahlberg’s mansion in Delray Beach and start begging!

Similar to Fight Club, details are scarce.

The ball is made in the same Taiwanese factory that produced the Clear balls and there are reportedly strict protocols in their sorting process to make sure each batch is perfect.

There will only be one version of the ball for 2026. A second ball is supposed to come online in 2027.

“My time at Clear gave me a definitive confirmation that there is a demand from golfers for ultra-premium products and they don’t mind paying a little more for them,” Singer told Forbes. “They also love to have something that other players don’t have and can’t get.”

Ah, yes, Clear. They once required a $1,200 membership fee to play their ball. The three-piece Clear ES and four-piece CS with cast urethane covers went for $68 per dozen.

Now you can get them for $30 a dozen on Sub 70.

Charl Schwartzel was an early adopter prior to COVID but he was pretty much the only one in the professional game.

OK, so the exclusive ball approach didn’t exactly take off for Clear.

Will Undergound Golf be different? Will someone who gets invited send us a ball for testing? Does my Costco membership get me anywhere here?

These are the questions we will be asking.

This experiment must be over. He’s clearly using a Taylor made ball with a sharpie line across the logo at the Virginia event in May.

This takes the stereotype of golf as a pretentious activity to a new level. It’s extremely unlikely this ball is superior to any of the premium balls currently on the market, thus it serves no purpose other than as an inane status symbol. Not surprising that Garcia is the one of the principles behind this foolish endeavor.

Also, it is funny that Municipal golf clothing is quite expensive. You’d think that with a name like Municipal, it would be inexpensive “muni” golf apparel. Lol.

This sounds like a stupid circa 2007 dot com strategy to go viral. Wait 18 months and they’ll operate like a typical company and then a year later go out of business because they had no real plan besides ‘go viral’.

Some good messages here (Swami, WBN). The question is also how good CAN you make a golf ball? If there was some amazing secret the Big Boys wold have done it long ago. Its a “get in and get out” business model. Guys with bug bucks have some fun, maybe make some coin, then move along.

If I find one, it will have to be 2nd or 3rd generation lost. I don’t play at the clubs where the original purchaser might have lost it. I may not even overlap with the first finder.

Did you see the size of the dimples on the two golf balls with the red printing? The dimples are hexagons, which isn’t that unusual, but the dimples are also really big. Hmmm, interesting. But I will probably never see or find one of these golf balls, and that’s fine with me. I just want golf balls that are $30 a dozen or less. I don’t need or want golf balls more expensive than that.

Ok, this is great! Just another level of separation between the Pro players, and the average amateur player! Go on, take your eliteist ball and shove it.. I don’t like Sergio as a person as it is, this is more fuel for that fire! Kid didn’t have a pot to piss in when he came to the Tour, and got a big mouth over the years! Went to LIV, and he isn’t winning any fans with this! Spoiled millionaire like the rest of them!!
