Stewart Golf Q Follow Gets Some Meaningful Upgrades (And Purple Paint if You Want It)

Electric push carts are having a moment. They represent the perfect middle ground between the pure enjoyment of walking the course and the low-effort convenience of riding in a cart. You get the exercise, the pace, and the connection to the game that comes with walking, but without showing up to the 18th tee completely gassed.

My wife likes it when I don’t come home from golf and immediately take a nap (especially when I skip the showering part).

For golfers who’ve embraced the electric cart lifestyle, Stewart Golf has long been among the category leaders. Their Q Follow has performed well in Most Wanted testing and racked up rave reviews. And now it’s even better.

What’s new with the Q Follow

Stewart Golf has rolled out the eighth generation of their industry-leading Follow technology and the improvements are substantial. The updated system is more responsive and intuitive, giving you that seamless, hands-free experience whether you’re navigating fairways, rough or pretty much any terrain.

One of the standout upgrades is the extended remote range. The new system works from nearly 100 yards away, which means you can send your cart wandering off to find your ball in the woods while you pretend to look for it from the safety of the fairway. It’s like having a loyal golden retriever, except it won’t judge you for that slice and it actually comes back when you call it.

Smarter battery, smarter app

The second-generation SmartPower battery is lighter and more efficient than its predecessor. The clever bit? It automatically switches off when not in use so you’re not burning through power when you’re standing over a putt or grabbing a sandwich at the turn.

Stewart has also completely redesigned their smartphone app to work with the new battery system. The app gives you real-time diagnostics, performance metrics and power management tools. It’s the kind of integration that makes you wonder why more golf equipment doesn’t work this well with your phone.

Six new colors and magnetic mounting

Beyond the tech upgrades, Stewart has given the Q Follow a style refresh with their new Design Series. You can now get your cart in copper, champagne, amethyst (you’re not fooling anybody. We know purple when we see it), aqua, red or yellow, in addition to the classic black and black carbon finishes.

But the feature that might prove most useful is the new built-in magnetic mounting plate. Any accessory with a magnet—your rangefinder, golf towel, putter cover, even a speaker—can attach directly to the cart. It’s the kind of feature that sounds mundane … until you realize how often you’ve set your rangefinder down on the cart only to have it slide off and disappear into the rough.

(Full disclosure: I had an electric cart with a magnetic mount. The mount actually came unglued with my rangefinder attached. That one sucked. Hopefully, Stewart does it better. It’s a low bar, guys.)

The bottom line

“The Q Follow has always represented the best of what we do: innovation, performance and design excellence,” says Mark Stewart, CEO of Stewart Golf. “The new edition is a meaningful evolution, with smarter technology and expanded customization. It’s our most refined product yet.”

At US$3,449, the Q Follow is among the most expensive electric carts. Some golfers will find the quality, reliability and feature set worth the premium even if the center console still can’t hold much more than a sleeve of balls and your car keys. Don’t expect to fit your backup glove, rain gear or that banana you were going to forget about until next season anyway.

If you’re in the market for an electric cart or thinking about upgrading from your current setup, the updated Q Follow makes a compelling case for those willing to pay for top-tier performance.

That is just what I need after spending 2 or 3k on all new clubs is a push cart costing even more ($3500 or more with tax and S&H). Who the heck does that? I’d tie a rope to my belt before spending that kind of cash just to have my bag follow me around the golf course. I may be a bit crazy but I’m not foolish.

True that. I just bought a Alphard electric mount that fits your regular cart for $700 and it works phenomenally well. I can live with spending $700 rather than $4000 for an upgraded magnetic plate holder.
