Will You Become Addicted to Stracka .com?
by: Ty the Golf Spy
Every now and then an idea pops onto the radar screen that really strikes us as something worth checking out. Sometimes the idea crashes and burns and leaves us wondering what just happened to the 3 hours of our lives we’ll never get back. But, sometimes the idea is so good and we devote another 3 hours just to play with it more.
The only question left to decide for us today, is what kind of idea is Stracka.com?
Handicap Tracker (On Steroids) and Much More…
Here’s the jist, in case you’ve never played around with the site as of yet, or if you have never heard of it: Stracka.com is basically a social network site based entirely around a love of golf. That’s right, if you were to mine Facebook and MySpace for all the golf lovers, then put them together in one place and let them run rampant, you’d basically have Stracka.com. The thing is, there’s a whole lot more to the site than that, and to be quite honest, there are some pretty exciting features that I’m anxious to dive a bit deeper into.
The features I’m most excited to try out in the days to come are the following:
- Handicap Tracker (On-Steroids) – the ability to track your handicap and stats in real time
- Stracka Swing Analyzer – the ability to upload a video of my swing and analyze it with a little something they call the “Stracka Swing Analyzer” to see how off center I am, what my head does on impact and just what is causing my altogether too often slice.
- Precise Yardage Maps – and I think this is something somewhat similar to the GolfFlyover we tested last week, they offer up course yardage maps for thousands of courses around the country.
6 Degrees of Stracka.com
On top of all these shiny features is the underlying social network. Nowadays what isn’t a social network? Similar to Facebook and Myspace and I guess even LinkedIn, Stracka.com is aiming to put you together with other like-minded golfers that are in your area, playing your home course. Your profile page looks basically exactly like a Facebook homepage and gives you the capability of uploading photos to your own album and even tweak your favorite courses.
Your Handicap Seen Like Never Before
The question is this, with all of the social networks out there, do we really need another? The answer is No, but there are a few features on here that might be enough for me to go ahead and use Stracka.com on a regular basis. The number one drawing point for me, and I’m sure a lot of other golf enthusiasts out there, is the ability to upload your scores immediately after your round and have it automatically update and track your USGA Handicap. For some reason, being able to see a charted and graphed representation of just how bad, or just how good you’ve been playing feels oddly attractive and I feel like it could even improve my score.

The Stracka Line ™ (Tune In Later This Week)
Tune in later this week as we’re going to go over and look at another absolutely mind-blowing feature that the folks at Stracka are working on…called “The Stracka Line™”.
