Distance still drives most driver purchases. It is the longest club in the bag and manufacturers spend plenty of time promising more ball speed, more carry and more total yards.
In our 2026 Most Wanted Driver test, we measured performance across distance, accuracy and forgiveness using more than 20,000 shots from 35 testers. Accuracy in this test is built around two metrics: Straight Shot Percentage (SS%) and Playable Shot Percentage (PS%).
Straight shots are great but playable shots matter just as much. A drive that finishes just off the fairway but still gives you a clear approach is far better than one that forces a punch-out.
When you start digging through the data, a few drivers stand out for their ability to keep the ball in play. They produce a high percentage of straight and playable shots. The catch is that some don’t quite keep up with the longest drivers in the test.
Here are three drivers from the 2026 test that excelled at accuracy but finished a little behind the distance leaders.
LA GOLF driver
The LA GOLF driver was the most accurate driver in the entire 2026 test.
It led the field in Straight Shot Percentage and produced strong playable shot outcomes. When you combine those two metrics, it becomes clear why this driver earned the top accuracy score.
For golfers who prioritize finding fairways, the data backs it up.
Where it falls behind the leaders is in distance. With a distance score of 8.2 and average total distance of 248.9 yards, it doesn’t quite match the ball speed and carry numbers produced by the longest drivers in the field.
That trade-off is worth noting but it is also what many golfers are willing to accept if it means they are facing more second shots from the short grass.
Tour Edge Exotics LS
The Tour Edge Exotics LS might be the most surprising driver on this list.
Low-spin models are typically built to chase distance, especially for faster swingers. In this case, the Exotics LS showed up as one of the most accurate drivers in the test.
It finished inside the top tier for Straight Shot Percentage and Playable Shot Percentage, producing a steady pattern of drives that stayed in or near the fairway.
Despite the low-spin design, the distance numbers lagged behind the longest drivers in the test. With a distance score of 8.1 and average total distance of 248.8 yards, it sits well below the longest performers.
Mizuno JPX One
The Mizuno JPX One quietly produced some of the most playable drives in the entire test.
Its Straight Shot Percentage sits slightly below the very best accuracy performers but its Playable Shot Percentage is among the strongest in the field. That means even when the ball doesn’t land in the fairway, it still tends to finish in a position where you can advance the ball toward the green.
Distance is where it loses ground to the leaders. The JPX One produced an average total distance of 248.9 yards and a distance score of 8.2, putting it well behind the longest drivers in the test.
That said, there may still be untapped potential depending on the player and the fitting. For golfers who prioritize keeping the ball in play, a good fitting could put the JPX One at the top of your list.
Final thoughts
The longest driver in our 2026 test averaged 255 yards of total distance which puts these models roughly six to seven yards shorter on average. If you are consistently finding the short grass instead of recovering from the trees or thick rough, that trade-off may be worth it.
Drivers that don’t fly quite as far aren’t always a bad thing. It simply depends on what your game needs the most help with.
