This Week in Golf Gear

There’s always something new in golf. New clubs, new apparel, new shoes, new bags and the occasional product that comes completely out of left field. Rather than cover every launch with a standalone story, This Week in Golf Gear is a quick look at the new releases, collaborations and products that caught our eye.

Foresight GC2 Launch Monitor

Foresight’s new GC2 represents a dramatic shift for a company best known for professional-grade launch monitors with professional-grade price tags.

At $1,699, the GC2 is Foresight’s first real move into a more accessible consumer price point. It uses two high-speed cameras, includes a new color display and can be used indoors or outdoors. You get ball speed, launch angle, launch direction, total spin, side spin, tilt axis, carry distance and total distance, and Foresight says it delivers the same optical accuracy as its more expensive units.

The big omission is club data. Foresight is using both cameras strictly for ball measurement, so the GC2 doesn’t attempt to infer club metrics. That makes the positioning a little unusual, especially when you compare it with the GC3 and Bushnell Launch Pro.

Still, this is a very interesting launch. You’re getting into the Foresight ecosystem for substantially less money, with no subscription required for basic functionality, plus access to the company’s new Premier software and revamped mobile app.

As Barba pointed out earlier, it’s equal parts confusing and exciting, but at $1,699, the GC2 could open Foresight up to a completely new group of golfers.

Sun Mountain E-Series Stand Bags

Sun Mountain has refreshed its Eclipse stand-bag family with a new name and a more refined three-bag lineup: the E-2.5, E-3.5, and E-4.5 VLO.

The basic idea is fairly simple. The E-2.5 is the lighter walking-focused option at 4.4 pounds, the E-3.5 adds more storage and comes in at five pounds, while the E-4.5 VLO gets a 14-way top, 14 full-length dividers, and is aimed more at golfers who alternate between walking and riding. All three bags use full-length dividers, Sun Mountain’s new ergonomic dual-strap system and an internal compression bottom designed to help keep clubs in place.

Pricing starts at $290 for the E-2.5, $300 for the E-3.5, and $315 for the E-4.5 VLO.

This isn’t some radical reinvention of the Sun Mountain stand bag. It’s more of a refinement of a formula the company already knows very well, with three distinct options depending on how you actually carry your clubs.

PXG Torpedo ZT Putter

PXG has taken the original Torpedo, moved the shaft connection to the head’s center of gravity and turned it into a zero-torque putter. The result is the Torpedo ZT, and we think it may be one of the best putters PXG has released this year.

The center-of-gravity shaft placement produces a toe-up balance and is designed to keep the face square to the path during the stroke. PXG also builds in one degree of forward press and keeps the classic Spider-like Torpedo shape intact rather than turning it into something more radical.

Where this one seems to separate itself is feel. In personal testing, MGS legend, Dave Wolfe found that the Torpedo ZT doesn’t feel disconnected the way some zero-torque putters can. He says the distance control is excellent, even on longer lag putts, while the 303 stainless-steel construction and Pyramid Milled Face Pattern give it a soft but responsive impact feel.

The Torpedo ZT also has adjustable sole weights, with head weight ranging from 357 to 392 grams, so there’s room to fine-tune the feel.

Pluto 2 Golf Shoes

Pluto Golf is back with the sequel to the P1, and the new P2 keeps the brand’s sneaker-first identity while adding more substantive golf performance.

The big addition is SoftSpikes traction, which should give the P2 more grip on the course without sacrificing the streetwear-heavy look that made the original stand out. Visually, Pluto is still pulling from classic sneaker culture, with design cues inspired by a number of iconic silhouettes.

The P2s are not everyone. They’re bold, they’re fashion-forward, and clearly aimed at golfers who care more about what’s on their feet than in their golf bag. The P2 looks like Pluto doubling down on exactly what made the P1 cool in the first place, while adding a little more on-course functionality.

Takomo LUMO Putters

Takomo Lumo B1 and M1 low torque putters.

Takomo is officially in the putter business with the new LUMO M1 and B1.

The M1 is a compact mallet and the B1 is a wider blade. Both are fully milled from 303 stainless steel and use a low-torque, heel-shafted design intended to reduce face rotation through the stroke.

Our resident gentleman, John Barba spent some time with both and came away impressed with the stability and overall performance, especially once he got the distance control dialed in.

Pricing is predictably aggressive. The Satin Steel models are $219, while the Black DLC versions are $239.

For a fully milled putter, that’s a lot of putter for the money.

Topping the list of this week’s coolest golf gear should be the VoiceCaddie SL2 mini range finder !!
Lightning fast laser range finding with ball to pin feature, built in GPS, OLED screen with course graphics and green heat maps, NO APP fees ! Tiny, my only regret-no magnet on non-screen side of device–oh well, nothing is perfect, but this is close ! Only $329.
