We Asked Golfers Why They Play Maxfli Golf Balls. Here’s What They Said.

We polled our Forum members on their Most Wanted Ball of 2025 and the results are in: the Maxfli Tour X took the overall win with the Tour and Tour S earning plenty of love as well. For those who have been following the MyGolfSpy 2025 Ball Test, it’s no surprise that our Forum members are high on this relative newcomer. But the better story is why. What makes golfers reach for Maxfli over the big-name tour balls? We asked members to make their best case—performance, price, feel, durability, alignment aids. Here’s what they said.

Value meets “tour-level” performance

Bang for your buck. Yards per dollar. Premium performance packaged at a price for a pauper (I’m a sucker for alliteration).

Maxfli Tour has the best performance for the dollar… rivals Pro V1/TP5/Chrome at a fraction of the cost. In-app sales as low as $25/dzn.” — Shrek74

I play Tour X for feel, consistency, durability, spin. Only ball as good for me is Pro V1x—and that’s $25 more per dozen.” — JB2334

If you want urethane without sticker shock, Maxfli is repeatedly described as the best value play.

Performance you can trust

Ball don’t lie. Side-by-side testing against premium models is common—and convincing. Just look at the MyGolfSpy Ball Test for 2025 for proof.

On-course tests: Tour X performs a little better for me than Pro V1x.” — chisag

Tournament-ready performance at reduced price points—equal to or exceeding other premium balls.” — CarlH

Tour X feels great on putts and is more consistent for me.” — tortoise1956

Sometimes the proof shows up on the scorecard:

In 14 months I’ve broken 80 eighteen times—all with Maxfli Tour.” — Golf2Much

The Goldilocks effect

Maxli Tour balls come in three options: Tour X, Tour and Tour S. So you can find the one that is just right for you.

Tour X: firmer feel, higher iron spin, strong off the tee.

Tour X is long, spins around the green, and is consistent through the box… a no-brainer on a budget.” — Hap McWedge

Tour: softer feel, plenty of spin without the firmness of X.

I prefer the feel of Tour and don’t lose anything meaningful vs. X.” — CarlH

Tour S: softer, shorter off driver for some, but helps with iron distance control—and the graphics are a bonus.

Tour S isn’t the longest for my 103 mph driver, but easy distance control with irons… and I love the putting line designs and USA version.” — Chux13

Durability, consistency, feel

Durability and box-to-box consistency matter—especially when buying in bulk. Maxfli saves you the time you’d normally spend floating your golf balls in an Epsom salt bath.

Plays well, great durability, predictable distance, solid feel off the putter.” — Willie T

I’ve used 2021/2023/2025 models—very slight differences year to year; I keep playing them for consistency.” — rkj427

One note to watch: a member felt 2025 yellow scuffs more than prior years (KJC), while others reported no issues.

Deals and stockpiles

Stack promos and Maxfli get very friendly. It pays to keep an eye out for deals, making this value ball an even better deal.

Four dozen for $120 at DICK’S, then $20 off—and I broke 80 for the first time with Tour Align.” — CoachJ1423

Picked up 18 dozen during a promo… and I’ll still grab more when a deal pops.” — Golf2Much

The case for Maxfli in a nutshell

Tour-level performance, trustworthy feel and durability, honest pricing—plus options (alignment/no stripe, colors, special editions) that fit how you actually play. Or as Skrizan put it: “Nothing to dislike… distance, feel, consistency, durability all great. Others are similar, none are cheaper.”

🏁 The takeaway

Whether it’s Tour, Tour X or Tour S, Maxfli’s formula resonates: performance + price + choice. If you’re ball-curious, run your own A/B—Maxfli versus your current gamer—and see if you notice a difference … other than in your wallet.

I switched to the maxfli tourx and shot my lowest scores I’ve ever shot. I’m 65 years old still swing x flex shafts and the tour x is the longest golf ball I’ve played. Great off the irons and around the greens my putting is very good with it as the feel is great. The price is really good compared to what I played before.

I’ve played the Maxfli Tour for the past 3 years. Performance is consistent and since I’m a senior with a slow swing speed it fits my needs perfectly. That being said, I wish it went 20 yards further with my driver! 😁

You ask the worst players in the world about golf balls, did you expect they wouldn’t pick the cheapest priced balls?
They probably have no idea about spin and feel.

Jakester, i hope you’re really just “jokestering” around. Love the information and content on Spy. Currently i’m a 0.2, and may be considered one of the worst players in the world in some circles, but i am definitely one of the cheapest and have LOVED the deals on the Maxfli Tour X and Wilson Staff X as well as the their “tour level” performance. Great balls if you have the BALLS to play them in your group!

Been playing them since I read your first test results a few years back. Performance close to the Pro V and $20+ less in price. Experimented with all (3) versions (my local Dick’s encouraged me to try a dozen of each in their “3 for…” promos). At age 80, settled on the Tour S…loved the feel and any possible loss of distance vs other models and/or other brands wasn’t an important factor at that age.

You can’t beat it for the Cost Per Performance compared to the others now.
It’s best deal and there is no loss.
But now that the word is out – I hope the price does not go up, and I hope it’s so good it takes down the mighty in those other brands LOL

I play the Tour X, I don’t know that the yellow scuffs that easily this year, I thought the yellow scuffed easire in previous years. I have also played the Tour and Tour S all in yellow, a good ball for me all around.

Yes the Maxfli Tour works well for me. I have tried the other Maxfli balls. Since I don’t swing like a robot the Tour gives me the best results and at a reasonable price.

I have been playing this ball for nearly 6 years. I can attest to the yellow scuffing easier on the 2025 model than before. I hope they reformulate how they add the color to the ball. The yellow is excellent in tournaments. On those errant shots, it’s easy to pick out. A big thanks to Ben and Lexi. No longer am I looked down on when asking what ball I’m playing.

Agreed, the cover this year scuffs very easily.

I started playing the Tour X after playing the TaylorMade Tour Response. I am a higher handicap player. However, the Tour X had helped my score. I love the launch off the tee, stopping power, and putting. It won’t fix my swing issues, but the ball does what I want it to do when I hit it well.
