Whilst the ball retriever is a clever design which I use all too frequently, it has a major design failure. The two metal loops and the catch bar are made of mild steel, chrome plated. I play on a links course by the sea and the numerous ditches and creeks are filled with brackish / salty water.
After 2 years of use, the metal fittings have corroded and most of the chrome has come away. Any design engineer with common sense would of used 316 (or even 304) stainless steel, I think its probably the finance people who quibbled over a few extra pence to enhance profile. What a typical own goal.

I have the 15′ version of this retriever, in the second year of use. It’s held up very well, no issues, the cover is fine and it’s helped me recover over two 5 gallon buckets of golf balls, all in passing while walking the course I play. I’m sure glad some of you all are too hoity-toity to carry a retriever. I’m more than happy playing golf balls that you paid for!

Callaway Golf Ball Retriever: whilst it is very good at actually retrieving golf balls it has a major weakness in the extension locking mechanism. I have had three of these over the years and they work fine for a few weeks and then the locking mechanism fails making them very awkward to use.
