Amazon Finds: Putting Mat

Introduction

Golf putting mats are essential for golfers looking to improve. MyGolfSpy’s comprehensive article on the best putting mats of 2023 covers high-quality options but the vast selection on Amazon can make choosing the right one challenging. In this review, we delve into the Golf Putting Mat, a versatile solution for golfers seeking value and performance.

The Problem

When looking for a putting mat on Amazon, you’re faced with numerous choices, which can be confusing. Many reviewed mats tend to be pricier, leaving budget-conscious buyers with many options but not a lot of reliable information on more affordable golf putting mats.

The Solution

Could the Golf Putting Mat be a simple and effective solution for budget-conscious golfers who want an indoor golf putting mat? It features clear markings for distances, target, swing path and stroke length, potentially making it a viable putting mat option for any golfer.

How I Found It

During my search for the Saplize Putting Mat, the Golf Putting Mat stood out to me due to its appearance, price and simplicity. Despite having only three reviews on Amazon, all were five stars. With its low price and suitable size for indoor putting practice it seemed ideal. I thought it would complement my Saplize mat for use in my office or at home.

How It Worked (or Didn’t)

My expectations were high when I received the Golf Putting Mat. As I unboxed it, I noticed that the bottom material, weight, size and feel were nearly identical to the Saplize Two-Speed Putting green. I have previously reviewed the Saplize Putting Mat and enjoy using it as my main practice putting mat. It rolled out smoothly with the rubber backing providing good grip, preventing slipping or shifting.

Markings and Design

The markings are in both yards and centimeters, which is acceptable for me, but the absence of foot markers, a standard putting measurement, was a notable omission and one that I don’t fully understand.

Regarding the markings, I appreciated the black and green contrast as well as the orange putting stroke markers. Even the target circle at the end of the putting green is a good design. However, the small orange circles for placing tees or using as gates didn’t add much value. The middle line was inconsistent with noticeable thickness differences running along the mat. Due to the orientation of the markings, it is also mainly suited for putting in only one direction. Not a deal breaker (some other options can be used in both directions) but it is noteworthy.

Speed and Accessories

One downside is that this indoor putting green is slow, especially when compared to my previous putting mats. Regardless of the putter or golf ball used, I felt I had to put in 30 to 40 percent more effort into each putt. Additionally, there was no backstop or anything included (mine did not come with the plastic green hole shown in the ad). This meant I could use the marked target or, as I mainly used, my PuttOUT training aid to have a more effective practice session. The slow speed limited my use as I preferred a practice green that was too quick rather than too slow.

Bottom Line

The Golf Putting Mat is decent but not outstanding. I would rate it at about three stars out of five. While some of the markings can be useful. The absence of foot markers and the use of yard and centimeter measurements is unusual. The main drawback for me is the slow speed. This is disappointing because it doesn’t accurately represent what I’d experience on the golf course.

Do you prefer a simple practice putting green and play on slow greens? Then this could be a suitable indoor training aid for you. However, if you’re accustomed to fast greens, I highly recommend exploring alternatives like the Saplize Two-Speed Putting Mat or these other top indoor putting mat options.
