Amazon Finds: Universal Umbrella Holder

The Problem

Unfortunately, I lost (or never received) an umbrella holder for my push cart. I needed something that was easily attached to my cart so I could use a golf umbrella no matter what the weather.

The Solution:

Introducing a versatile Universal Golf Cart Umbrella Holder designed for golf carts. This adjustable holder features an umbrella tightening screw and a multi-piece, two-screw clasp for easy attachment to any cart, allowing for optimal use in various positions.

How I Found It:

I stumbled upon this product on Temu but found the same item available on Amazon. Priced at a mere $7, there are other options to choose from at different price points. However, this seemed to have decent reviews: 3.4 out of five stars on 372 reviews. The same umbrella holder is sold from other companies and was sixth on Amazon’s “best sellers” ranking for golf umbrella holders.  My expectations were not high. I simply wanted a practical solution to use an umbrella on the golf course. Unfortunately, I do not have a lot of time for full rounds so when I get the chance, I do, regardless of the weather.

How it works (or didn’t):

As for the Universal Golf Cart Umbrella Holder’s performance, it does the job. It attached seamlessly to my Clicgear cart’s handlebar, thanks to an additional separator that accommodates different bar sizes. The wide umbrella slot and tightening screw ensured both my umbrellas fit securely, while the angle adjustment allowed me to position the umbrella just the way I wanted. The final part I did like, again, was the angle adjustment which allowed me to fold the umbrella holder over for placement into the car, allowing me to keep it on the cart versus having to remove it after each round.

That leads me nicely into what I didn’t like or simply didn’t work for me with the golf umbrella holder. While the holder can attach to most bars and cart parts, it requires extremely tight screws to prevent wobbling or sliding which can be annoying if you want to remove and reattach it frequently. Additionally, the plastic pieces where it attaches to the cart have sharp edges that can be uncomfortable if placed in the wrong spot.

Furthermore, the overall build feels flimsy when using the umbrella, even on flat courses. I found myself holding the umbrella stem to prevent excessive movement, fearing it might break. While it has not snapped off yet, I doubt its long-term durability.

Bottom Line:

You can find this same umbrella holder on various Amazon ads with reviews ranging from three to four stars. In my opinion, that’s quite generous. The umbrella holder serves its basic purpose by accommodating different umbrellas and allowing adjustments but it feels cheap, reflecting its low price. Long-term durability is questionable and the presence of sharp edges makes careful placement necessary.

In the end, I’ll be looking to upgrade and purchase a more stable umbrella holder with an easier on/off system for future rounds.

Have you tried the Clicgear umbrella holder that screws into the handlebar?

I did see them and even had one on my first Clicgear cart, but the price difference was significant. I did also like that this had an adjustable angle. On Amazon there are a lot of other options at different prices. Some certainly appear to be more durable than this one, but again so far this hasn’t broken and worked well despite the flimsy nature.

Cool idea. But it does appear pretty flimsy.

Since writing this I have gotten out another handful of times and I can happily report it is still in one piece. As I mentioned it works at the most basic level and I have not taken it off my cart which has helped too. It has been too hot to not use an umbrella and this has done the trick. That being said I wouldn’t love being on a super bumpy course with it.
