The 2025 Driver No One Is Talking About (But Should Be)

It’s easy to talk about the best golf driver of the year, like the Callaway Elyte Triple Diamond. Even the longest driver of the year, the Titleist GT2, gets plenty of attention.

You know what doesn’t but should? The driver in fourth place.

This year, that driver is the COBRA DS-Adapt Max K.

If you want to know more about the 2025 driver no one is talking about but should be, here’s what you need to know about the COBRA DS-Adapt Max K.

The fourth-longest driver of the year

The longest driver of the year, the Titleist GT2, had an average total distance of 252.02 yards. The COBRA DS-Adapt Max K was 251.03 yards – just one yard less. If you have trouble generating the distance you want off the tee, consider the Max K.

One of the 10K drivers in the 2025 test

The 10K concept is still highly debated. Let’s remember that MOI is just a number that will not tell us the whole story about forgiveness. However, when we tested for forgiveness, the COBRA DS-Adapt Max K finished in the top 10. As a side note, so did the PING G430 MAX 10K, which is also a 10K driver.

We measure forgiveness in our testing by looking at the consistency of the driver’s carry distance and ball speed results. In addition, dispersion, also called shot area, is considered. Not only is the DS-Adapt Max K long – it is consistently long.

Accuracy will need to be dialed in

The COBRA DS-Adapt Max X finished 22nd out of 37 for accuracy so it’s not the most accurate driver of 2025. Most (not all) drivers with strong distance performance struggle a bit with accuracy. To measure accuracy, we looked at the straight-shot percentage and the playable-shot percentage.

You’ll want to get fitted for a COBRA DS-Adapt Max K to ensure its accuracy. However, the new adaptor sleeve, FutureFit33, makes it easier than ever to dial in the loft and lie adjustments and achieve the ball flight and launch you need.

What the testers said

Performance matters. When you go for your driver fitting, performance should be considered over subjective feedback and feel. However, if you’re still in the research stage, it can help to know what others are saying about the drivers you are considering.

The good

  • Many testers loved the feel of the DS-Adapt Max K which was described as both “solid” and “lively.”
  • Consistency was one of the more common points raised by testers who described things like “very consistent center strikes.”
  • Some found the carry distance to be the best of the group and were pleased by its overall distance performance.
  • The FutureFit 33 sleeve was looked at as a positive.
  • Most testers liked the look but some said the head appeared too large.

The not-so-good

  • Some golfers did not prefer the sound, especially on the mishits.
  • A few found the ball flight to be too high. The COBRA-DS Adapt LS could be a better model for players who generate too much spin.

Pricing and value

The COBRA DS-Adapt Max K is a brand-new release priced at $549. While some drivers in 2025 are well over $600, the Max K still isn’t cheap.

As far as alternatives go, the best COBRA driver of 2024 was the Darkspeed LS but it struggled with distance performance. The LS, along with other top performers from last year like the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond and the PING G430, is now $399.

Final thoughts

If you’re in the market for a new driver, keep in mind that our test covered 37 drivers and 409,000 data points. Finishing in the top four is no small feat.

The COBRA DS-Adapt Max K stands out as a driver that delivers consistency and distance, making it a strong contender for any golfer looking to keep the ball in play while maximizing yards off the tee.

Not sure how different the Max K performs vs the X, but I’ve had the X for about a month and it is a BOMBER ! The DS-ADAPT hosel is a game changer which no other driver can compete with and for $549, they’ve got the other OEM’s beat on price.

I have commented on this driver before in the most wanted testing. The DS Adapt peaked my interest as I was working with the Cobra guys fitting my one length irons. I had just bought a PXG driver a few months earlier but I was intrigued by the fitting system of the DS Adapt. I had them put me through a fitting and I was amazed by how well they could zero in on the optimum loft and lie to give me effortless and consistent shots. Not only does the club perform beautifully, it is really good looking club to stand over. I didn’t buy one (yet) since I just spent money on a driver, but I got my wife out to demo the club. After the fitting she immediately bought one and it has made a difference in her game. I think it is only a matter of time before the other club manufactures build a similar fitting system into their clubs.
